HUNTLY NORDIC SKI CLUB www.nordicski.co.uk www.facebook.com/HuntlyNordic NEWSLETTER No. 55 March 2019 ! ! ! Most of the British Elite ski team are club members, so it has been wonderful to see them performing so well at the World Championships, World Cups where Andrew Musgrave has been pretty consistently in the top 10 in his races and Andrew Young has had some good Sprint results including in the team sprint with James Clugnet at Dresden, as well as 3rd in the last World Cup race of the season. (FIS has officially reviewed and revised the results.) They have also raced in Scandinavian Cup and Nordic cup as well as the Birkenbeiner where Annika Taylor was 1st in the skate race and Nichole Bathe 11th in the classic race. Together the ladies have also had some good team sprint results. Our younger club members, Oliver Newman, Hamish Wolfe, Cameron Cruickshank, Kieren Forth and Logan Duncan, who are part of BNDS or the GB Junior team have also been racing in Norway, Sweden, Austria, OPA youth champs in Switzerland and the World Juniors in Finland. ! ! Meanwhile closer to home the club has been very active in what has been an average snow season. Seefeld 2019 The World Championships come along every 2 years and were in Seefeld this year. The sun shone, the venue was great and the scenery fantastic for the spectators (and volunteers, see later), but the snow was a little soft and so hard going at times for the competitors. It would appear that there was no one left in Norway as the town was awash with Norwegian supporters all in traditional jumpers bearing flags and celebrating in the bar next to our apartment.

  • November 2010 PRE-SEASON
1 HUNTLY NORDIC SKI CLUB HUNTLY NORDIC SKI CLUB www.nordicski.org.uk NEWSLETTER No. 35 November 2010 PRE-SEASON Clash snow days = 0 Editorial Another busy summer of rollerski racing passes & we expectantly look forward to the coming winter. Another like last year would do the job nicely. Our recent AGM saw little change to your committee & you will have by now received the minutes, accounts & the Secretary’s summary of the year’s activities. We welcome onboard Claudia Zeiske who takes over as the Press/Public Relations Officer. Ian Cooper stands down & is thanked for his work, especially his notable coup of The last patch of getting a radio interview for Andrew Musgrave. snow 5 June 10 The past year was quite a momentous one with record snowfall & Olympic skiers & cross-country skiing in general can be pretty pleased with itself on the way it is progressing at grassroots & international levels. However there are darkening clouds we need to be aware of. The governing body situation is yet to fully resolve itself & this may take some time even if it ever does. Closer to home cuts in local government spending will have an impact on the Ski Centre – how big an effect we don’t know. The snowmobile needs replacing & the old Clash Hut is no more. These are all challenges the Club has to face up to. But don’t get too despondent - there is a lot to look forward to. As you will read below our young skiers will be competing at the highest levels this coming season.

  • April 2016 END of SEASON ISSUE
1 HUNTLY NORDIC SKI CLUB www.nordicski.co.uk www.facebook.com/HuntlyNordic NEWSLETTER No. 49 April 2016 END of SEASON ISSUE Clash snow days 2015/16 = 57 (19 good, 29 marginal) Editorial Fifty-seven skiing days in the Clash this winter compared to 59 last year but only 19 of those days could be called good skiing days, compared to 28 last year. So the final report card says adequate but could do better. However the season wasn’t a write- off, it never is when we are able to hold a race on the trails & the period from mid-February into the beginning of March gave an almost continuous spell of good skiing. Congratulations to a team of Steve & Gregor Young, Oliver & Fergus Newman, Brodie Murray & Jack Nicholls who joined forces to claim the Golden Boot. They completed their loop on the 21 st Nov 2015. 2015 was a particularly noteworthy year for British Nordic Skiing bookended by a couple of tremendous race results. In January 2015 Andrew Musgrave became the first British Nordic skier to take the top spot in a World Cup event when he set the fastest time in a stage of the Tour de Ski. (see Newsletter 47). Then in December 2015 Andrew Young became the first British skier to win a medal in a World Cup race by coming 3 rd in the sprints at Toblach. Some of you may have read Duncan Gibb’s interview in the Snowsport Scotland Newsletter ( www.snowsportscotland.org ) where he talks about his step up into the senior ranks of the British Team.
