Während die Grün-Weißen damals mit ihrem 3:0-Erfolg auf der Alm einen weiteren Schritt Richtung Tabellenführung und sensationelle Deutsche Meisterschaft feiern konnten, markierte das Jahr 2009 für die Ostwestfalen einen tiefen Einschnitt in der Klubhistorie. Nach dem folgenden Abstieg dümpelte Bielefeld über eine Dekade in den Tiefen der zweiten und dritten Liga herum, ehe ihnen endlich im vergan- genen Jahr der ungefährdete Wiederaufstieg unter Uwe Neuhaus gelang. Kurioserweise spielte der DSC auch auf dem Weg zum zweiten großen VfL-Meilenstein eine entscheidende Rolle, als man 2015 als Drittligist bis ins Halbfinale des DFB- Pokals vorstieß und dort dem späteren Titelträger VfL glatt mit 0:4 unterlag. Zweifacher Torschütze war damals der junge Maximilian Arnold, neben dem eingewechselten Josuha Guilavogui der einzige bis heute verbliebene Wolf. Auf Gastgeberseite bereits dabei war der aus Gifhorn stammende Angreifer Fabian Klos, der früher selbst für die Grün-Weißen die Fußballschuhe geschnürt hatte und nun mit stolzen 32 Jahren erstmals das Oberhaus betreten hat. Der Start seines Teams in Liga eins lässt sich insgesamt sehen, trotz der beiden letzten Niederlagen in Bremen (0:1) und gegen den Rekord- und Abonnementmeister Bayern München (1:4) liegt man mit vier Zählern über dem Strich – und punktgleich mit den Wölfen. Wo das Team von Oliver Glasner derzeit steht, ist schwierig einzuschätzen.
