Our line of cutting preserves and spoon preserves are tailor-made for sweet and savory pairing, as well as cooking – they’re the perfect pantry staple. A natural accompaniment for cheese, our preserves upgrade a cheese platter to sublime. Our shrubs and bitters are a natural celebratory extension, crafted with the same care, a desire to utilize the whole fruit, and exquisite sourcing. Our preserves bring a sense of gravitas to any meal– an appreciation for tradition: for the bounty the land can provide, and the simple human ingenuity that inspired us long ago, to preserve it. Spoon preserves, more like a traditional jam, have a softer set than our cutting preserves. They are equally at home on toast, dessert, or cheese, and are rich with whole pieces of fruit. Cutting preserves are ‘membrillo’ style, highly concentrated fruit purees – perfect for chee charcuterie pairing. Known as ‘fruit cheese’ in Europe, this classic recipe was originally us take advantage of fallen orchard fruit. Great starters for glazes, vinaigrettes, & sau Shrubs are concentrated sweet & sour syrups, tailored for splashing into soda and making cocktails at home. They are a fabulous pantry staple -adding a touch of sour & hint of sweet to roasting meat and vegetables and crafting a delicious ice cream shrub soda float. These articles and letters provide some good examples of potential talking points and arguments, including the importance of consumer choice and the availability of healthy beverage options. College Campus Ban Related Campus Times: “Questioning the bottle ban” February 21, 2013 http://www.campustimes.org/2013/02/21/questioning-the-bottle-ban/ Roughly 16 universities across the United States and Canada have banned the sale of bottled water on their campuses, according to the “Ban the Bottle” campaign website. Team Green is hoping to add UR to that list. The on-campus discussion has focused mainly on whether bottled or tap water is better, with Team Green conducting taste tests and some student surveys. Unfortunately, that is not the real issue at hand. The real debate is about whether or not banning all bottled water sales is the right decision for this campus. It’s not. Environmentally, it would seem that banning all bottled water would reduce waste, but there are unseen consequences. First, it takes much more energy to make reusable water bottles than it does to make recyclable plastic water bottles. A 1994 article in “Environmental Management” demonstrated that you would need to use a standard, reusable plastic cup over 200 times in order for its energy impact — including dish washing — to be less than that of foam cups.

This action, while on the surface might seem well-intended, will have negative health and environmental consequences, and are not in the public interest. New research shows when bottled water is not available in a vending machine, people choose other packaged beverages, which may contain sugar, caffeine, and other additives. They don’t necessarily go looking for a drinking water fountain. The results of a new UVM bottled water sales ban study supports that conclusion. The study: “The Unintended Consequences of Changes in Beverage Options and the Removal of Bottled Water on a University Campus,” published this month in AJPH, concluded that the bottled water sales ban at the University of Vermont (UVM) resulted in a significant increase (33 percent) in the consumption of sugary drinks and an increase (6 percent) in the amount of plastic bottles entering the waste stream. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has developed this helpful toolkit to assist IBWA members, college students and staff, and private citizens in protecting their right to choose bottled water – a convenient, safe, and healthy packaged beverage.

    Qualitative Inquiries in Music Therapy 2010: Volume 5, pp. 1–42 Barcelona Publishers TIPPING THE SCALES: A SUBSTANTIVE THEORY ON THE VALUE OF GROUP MUSIC THERAPY FOR SUPPORTING GRIEVING TEENAGERS Katrina McFerran1 ABSTRACT The value of group music therapy for bereaved young people has been described in a number of studies using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. This article details a qualitative investigation of a school-based program in Australia and presents the results of a grounded theory analysis of focus-group interviews conducted with adolescents. A brief empirical theory is presented in combination with a set of relational statements which conceptualize the phenomenon. This theory states that bereaved teenagers feel bet- ter if they have opportunities for fun and creative expression of their grief alongside their peers. This statement is compared to findings in the literature and addresses clinically re- levant issues of: how music therapy engages young people; what active music making means in this context; what constitutes the action of ―letting your feelings out‖; how the group influences the outcomes of its members; and how important a specific bereavement group is compared to a group with a broader ―loss and grief‖ focus. INTRODUCTION: SITUATING THE RESEARCH The research project described in this paper emerged from my clinical experience work- ing with young people whose parents or siblings had died of cancer while supported by a community based palliative care program. Music therapy became fundamental to the pro- vision of support for these young people because of the creative and non-verbal oppor- tunities that were available through it.
