Sv ir id o v received 24.II.2000 Summary: 630 species of the Noctuidae are listed for the modern Volgo-Ural fauna. 2 species [Mesapamea hedeni Graeser and Amphidrina amurensis Staudinger ) are noted from Europe for the first time and one more— Nycteola siculana Fuchs —from Russia. 3 species ( Catocala optata Godart , Helicoverpa obsoleta Fabricius , Pseudohadena minuta Pungeler ) are deleted from the list. Supposedly they were either erroneously determinated or incorrect noted from the region under consideration since Eversmann 's work. 289 species are recorded from the re gion in addition to Eversmann 's list. This paper is the fifth in a series of publications1 dealing with the composition of the pres ent-day fauna of noctuid-moths in the Middle Volga and the south-western Cisurals. This re gion comprises the administrative divisions of the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, Uljanovsk, Orenburg, Uralsk and Atyraus (= Gurjev) Districts, together with Tataria and Bash kiria. As was accepted in the first part of this series, only material reliably labelled, and cover ing the last 20 years was used for this study. The main collections are those of the authors: V. Despite the proximity of Sredna Gora Mountains to Sofia, the insect assemblages of this region are poorly studied. As a result of two studies carried out as a part of an Environmental Impact Assessment in the Natura 2000 Protected Areas: Sredna Gora and Popintsi, a rich diversity of insects was discovered, with 107 saproxylic and epigeobiont Coleoptera species and 355 Lepidoptera species recorded. This research was conducted during a short one-season field study in the surrounding areas of the town of Panagyurishte and Oborishte Village. Special attention was paid to protected species and their conservation status. Of the Coleoptera recorded, 22 species were of conservation significance. Forty-five Lepidoptera species of conservation importance were also recorded. KEY WORDS.WORDS. This holiday, as for every Honeyguide holiday, also puts something into conservation in our host country by way of a contribution to the wildlife that we enjoyed, in this case for La Sociedad Española de Ornitología (SEO), the Spanish Ornithological Society, and its work in Aragón. The conservation contribution this year of £40 per person was supplemented by gift aid through the Honeyguide Wildlife Charitable Trust, leading to a total of £440 This donation brings the total given to SEO since the first Honeyguide holiday in Spain in 1991 to £16,745 (through all Honeyguide holidays, mostly the Spanish Pyrenees and Extremadura). As at July 2016, the total for all conservation contributions through Honeyguide since 1991 was £108,716. 2 DAILY DIARY Wednesday 15 June: The way there… What should have been a simple journey, Stansted to Biarritz then minibus to Berdún, had by 8pm turned out rather differently. After a series of delays due to thundery weather our flight eventually got onto French tarmac an hour late, where we were held on the plane because of the heavy rain, although any benefit from that was soon negated when we had to wait outside, in the continuing deluge, while another plane took off. -

INTRODUCTION The fauna of noctuoid moths (the families Erebidae and Noctuidae) of Kazakhstan is still poorly studied. Only the fauna of West Kazakhstan has been studied satisfactorily (Gorbunov 2011). On the faunas of other parts of the country, only fragmentary data are published (Lederer, 1853; 1855; Aibasov & Zhdanko 1982; Hacker & Peks 1990; Lehmann et al. 1998; Benedek & Bálint 2009; 2013; Korb 2013). In contrast to the West Kazakhstan, the fauna of noctuid moths of East Kazakhstan was studied inadequately. -

The Noctuidae (Lepidoptera) of the Daghestan Republic (Russia) Poltavsky Alexander Nikolaevitch & Ilyina Elena Vjatcheslavovna Abstract. In this paper the complete list of Noctuidae currently known from Daghestan, the largest republic in the North Caucasus, is given. The list comprises 343 species and includes original data of the authors, records from the two main national collections in Russia, and some data from a few publications. Noctuidae were recorded from 37 localities in Daghestan, situated in the five natural zones of the country. The time interval of the faunistic studies spreads through the main part of the 20th Century: from 1926 to 2000. Samenvatting. De Noctuidae (Lepidoptera) van de Republiek Daghestan (Rusland) Dit artikel bevat de volledige lijst van de 343 soorten Noctuidae die tot op heden bekend zijn uit Daghestan, de grootste republiek in de Noord-Kaukasus. De lijst werd samengesteld met persoonlijke waarnemingen van de auteurs, gegevens uit de twee belangrijkste verzamelingen in Rusland en enkele gepubliceerde gegevens. Noctuidae werden op 37 plaatsen verzameld in Daghestan, gelegen in de 5 natuurlijke gebieden van het land. De waarnemingen stammen uit een grote tijdspanne in de 20ste eeuw: van 1926 tot 2000. Les Noctuidés (Lepidoptera) de la République du Daghestan (Russie) Cet article contient la liste complète des 343 espèces de Noctuidae qui sont connues du Daghestan, la république la plus grande du Nord-Caucase. La liste a été compilée avec les observations personnelles des auteurs, les données des deux plus grandes collections de Russie et quelques citations dans la littérature. Des Noctuidae furent capturés dans 37 localités différentes, situées dans les 5 zones naturelles du pays. -

Capital-breeding Lepidoptera depend for reproduction on metabolic resources assembled either entirely or primarily by their larvae, the former termed 'perfect' the latter 'imperfect'. Empirical evidence suggests that maternal size determines capi- tal-breeder fecundity. The fecundity-maternal size relation is usually formulated as F = bW + a, where F is fecundity, W is final ma- ternal size in units such as weight of newly transformed pupae, b is the slope, and a the intercept. Exhaustive search yielded 71 fe- cundity-maternal pupal weight relations for 41 capital breeders in 15 families, 58 of which, including 2 previously unpublished, were based on individual specimens, and 13 on grouped specimens. In 22 individual-specimen relations, cohorts divided into 2 or more subgroups were reared simultaneously at different temperatures, on different diets, or exposed to other extrinsic factors. These 22 'multiform' relations were compared with 36 'uniform' relations, and where possible cohort subgroups were compared. Pupal weights of cohort subgroups were affected much oftener than underlying slopes and intercepts. Individual-specimen slopes based on transformed data ranged 0.52-2.09 with a mean and standard error of 1.13±0.04, and slopes did not differ significantly among perfect, imperfect, multiform, and uniform categories. Despite the evident similarity, one relation does not apply to all capital breed- ers. -

Müller Abstract The Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon ridges are located in the middle of a narrow “Mediterranean ecozone” corridor stretching along the Levantine coast. Both ridges are high enough to feature a complete range of altitude zones, which includes an alpine tragacanth belt (> 2000 m a.s.l.). The southernmost part of the Anti-Lebanon ridge is situated in the northernmost part of Israel. Among the 548 Israeli Noctuidae species, 106 species (21%) occur only in this small mountainous area. Among them, 17 are endemic and the populations of the remaining 89 species are at the edge of their distribution range. -

Da über die Insektenfauna der ostbayerischen Grenzgebirge Oberpfälzer Wald und Bayerischer Wald bisher nur wenig publiziert wurde und aus der montanen bis alpinen Höhenstufe der bayerischen Alpengebieten nur wenige neuere Veröffentlichungen vorliegen, werden bemerkenswerte Funde der Lepidoptera, Tricho- ptera, Neuropteroidea, Ephemeroptera und Odonata, die im Rahmen der Kartierung der bayerischen Naturwaldreservate erfaßt wurden, erstmals publiziert. Die Nachweise, die eine große Zahl von Erstnachweisen und Wiederfunden enthalten, werden, soweit dies im Hinblick auf weiterführende Veröffentlichungen sinnvoll erscheint, kommentiert. Abstract: The higher altitudes of the Bavarian highlands host a montaneous determined insect fauna with numerous species of arcto-alpine distribution. Little data have been published so far from the East Bavarian mountain ranges “Ober- pfälzer Wald” and “Bayerischer Wald”, and only a few publications of recent date exist concerning the insect fauna of the montane and alpine altitudes of the Bavarian Alps. Therefore in this paper remarkable records—comprising a lot of first and again findings—of Lepidoptera, Trichoptera, Neuropteroidea, Ephemeroptera, and Odonata are published.
