Previous meetings • The teams are meeting for the first time in UEFA competition, although they were paired together in the 1963/64 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, Valencia prevailing 3-2 on aggregate after a goalless first leg in Austria. • Valencia have won all of their four previous home matches against Austrian clubs, while Rapid have yet to triumph in six games in Spain (W0 D2 L4). • Valencia's record in eight UEFA fixtures against Austrian sides is W6 D1 L1 (W4 D0 L0 at home – W2 D1 L1 in Austria). • Rapid's record in 11 encounters with Spanish teams is W3 D2 L6 (W3 D0 L2 in Vienna – W0 D2 L4 in Spain). Form guide • Valencia bowed out of this season's UEFA Champions League group stage. They lost their last three games without scoring. • Rapid's record in five European away trips this season is W3 D1 L1. They have kept just one clean sheet in their last 18 European games, home and away. • Valencia ventured from the group stage to the semi-finals in their most recent UEFA Europa League campaign, in 2013/14. They won the UEFA Cup in 2004, beating Olympique de Marseille 2-0 in the final in Gothenburg. • Rapid have not featured in the spring phase of a UEFA competition since they made it to the final of the 1995/96 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, losing 1-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in Brussels. They negotiated the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League group stage for the first time at the fifth attempt this season. Trivia and links • The journey from Vienna to Valencia is around 1,650km. • Rapid boast Spanish talent in the form of Canary Islands-born striker Tomi Correa, who played for CD Tenerife, CF Badalona, CD Logroñes and UD Tegueste before moving to Austria in 2009. • Rapid's Hungarian midfielder Tamás Szántó turns 20 on the day of the first leg against Valencia. The coaches • Hired as Valencia coach in December, Neville was working as a pundit and as an assistant coach with the England national team. He lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy twice and won eight Premier League titles during his time as a Manchester United FC defender. • Neville has never featured in a UEFA Europa League game. The last of his two UEFA Cup appearances came in September 1995 – a 0-0 draw at SC Rotor Volgograd. He made his continental debut in another UEFA Cup tie, playing three minutes of United's 0-0 draw against FC Torpedo Moskva in September 1992. • A midfielder of Croatian descent, Vienna-born Zoran Barisic played for Rapid from 1993 to 1995 and has been on the coaching staff since 2006. He has been in sole command at the club since 2013 and led them to a runners-up finish in the Austrian Bundesliga last term. • Neville and Barisic met as players when United beat Rapid 2-0 home and away in the 1996/97 UEFA Champions League group stage. Neville played in both games, while Barisic came on for the final 26 minutes of the first meeting, at Old Trafford. 4 Valencia CF - SK Rapid Wien Thursday 18 February 2016 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Estadi de Mestalla, Valencia Team facts Valencia CF Formed: 1919 Nickname: Blanquinegros (White and Blacks) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Cup: (2000), (2001) • UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1980 • UEFA Cup (1): 2004 • UEFA Super Cup (2): 1980, 2004 • UEFA Intertoto Cup (1): 1998 Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 6 (2004) Spanish Cup: 7 (2008) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA competition 2013/14: semi-finals 2012/13: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2011/12: semi-finals (having transferred from the UEFA Champions League group stage) 2010/11: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2009/10: quarter-finals 2008/09: round of 32 2007/08: UEFA Champions League group stage 2006/07: UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 2005/06: UEFA Intertoto Cup final matches Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 7-0: Valencia v KRC Genk 23/11/11, UEFA Champions League group stage • Biggest away win 0-5: SK Sturm Graz v Valencia 07/03/01, UEFA Champions League second group stage • Heaviest home defeat 1-5 twice, most recently v FC Internazionale Milano 20/10/04, UEFA Champions League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 7-0: Karlsruher SC v Valencia 02/11/93, UEFA Cup second round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 6-1: Valencia v Legia Warszawa 01/11/01, second round second leg 5-0 (aet): Valencia v FC Basel 1893 10/04/14, quarter-final second leg 5-0: Valencia v FC Chernomorets Krasnodarskiy Kray 27/09/01, first round second leg • Biggest away win 0-4 twice, most recently v Rosenborg BK 27/11/08, group stage • Heaviest home defeat 1-5: Valencia v SSC Napoli 16/09/92, first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 7-0: Karlsruher SC v Valencia (see above) 5 Valencia CF - SK Rapid Wien Thursday 18 February 2016 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Estadi de Mestalla, Valencia SK Rapid Wien Formed: 1899 Nickname: Die Grün-Weißen (The Green-Whites) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: (1985), (1996) • UEFA Intertoto Cup: 2007 Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 32 (2008) Austrian Cup: 14 (1995) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2014/15: play-offs 2013/14: group stage 2012/13: group stage 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: group stage 2009/10: group stage 2008/09: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round 2007/08: first round (having transferred from UEFA Intertoto Cup) 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2005/06: UEFA Champions League group stage Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 8-0: Rapid v FC Avenir Beggen 29/09/82, European Champions Clubs' Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 1-6: F91 Dudelange v Rapid 27/07/05, UEFA Champions League second qualifying round first leg 0-5: FC Avenir Beggen v Rapid 15/09/82, European Champions Clubs' Cup first round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 2-6: Rapid v ACF Fiorentina 25/10/61, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg 0-4: Rapid v Bayer 04 Leverkusen 25/10/12, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 7-2: AC Milan v Rapid 12/02/56, European Champion Clubs' Cup quarter-final second leg 5-0: Juventus v Rapid 30/10/96, UEFA Champions League group stage UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 6-1: Rapid v 1.
