After Mahabharatha Yudham, Arjuna went to Himalaya, on the way he met Lord Shiva in Kattala Vesham (Tribal man), who came to test Arjuna. After testing Arjuna, Lord Shiva gave him 5 Shivalingas. Three of them were placed in Thrissur, and then he moved towards North and reached a place and kept the remaining Shivalingas in the ground and went to take a bath in the river. When he came back, he tried to take the Shivalinga with much effort. But he couldn’t do it. Then, as a last effort Arjuna said “Pova Unni” and pulled the Shivalinga. Suddenly he heard a voice “Poku Unni”. By understanding the meaning, he started worshipping the Shivalinga there and asked the Namboodiris nearby to do the daily poojas and rituals. Thus the place got its name Poovani. Then the temple came under Paliyam Devaswom finally. After that the devotees came forward and took the administration of the temple. Sivarathri festival is celebrated Local Approximately 100 RELEVANCE- NO. OF PEOPLE (Local / National / International) PARTICIPATED EVENTS/PROGRAMS DESCRIPTION (How festival is celebrated) The temple is decorated with flowers and coconut leaves. Special poojas Special poojas and rituals will be carried out during the festival. The devotees undergo fasting on the previous day Cultural programs and come to temple in the early morning. They will not sleep during the Shivarathri day and will stay in the temple premises during the festival days. There will be many cultural programs conducted in the temple as a part of the festival. .

The foundation stone of the church was laid by Rev. Marottical Poulose. The church was built in typical Kerala Vaastushilpa architectural style in the period 1883-1893. The Ollur Forane church is one of the best models of Christian architecture in India. The Ollur church is one of the wealthiest in the whole of Kerala. Raphael is the name of an archangel of Christianity who is one of three angels listed by name in the Bible. The Roman Catholic Church assigns the feast of Saint Raphael to October 24. He stands in the choir of archangels and is one of the seven angels who stand before the Throne of God. His name is known in the Bible where he, in the book of Tobit, is the traveling companion of the Tobias, a young man. The Church calls on him as the angel of love, patron of medical doctors and of travelers.

The temple is known for its idol worship of Lord Rama and his wife Seetha, believed to be incarnations of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The rituals and customs followed at the temple established in 1895 are similar to those followed at the famous Tirupati Thirumala Devasthanam. Brahmotsavam celebrations include Ram Navami, Aarattu Sita Kalyana Mahotsavam, Anjaneyotsavam and Rathotsavam. Hundreds of devotees take part in the celebrations. However, there are restrictions on public access to some of the rituals. Local Above 5000 RELEVANCE- NO. ORGANISATIONAL SET UP The Kerala Engineering Research Institute is under the Directorate of Fundamental & Applied Research, KERI, Peechi headed by the Director in the rank of Superintending Engineer with, two Divisions functioning at Peechi, i.e., the Hydraulic Research and the Construction Materials & Foundation Engineering Division and another division namely the Coastal Engineering Field Studies Division at Thrissur, each headed by a Joint Director, an officer in the rank of an Executive Engineer. COLLEGE REPORT 2019-20 It is with immense pleasure and great gratitude that I present before you the 25th Annual Report of the College activities of the academic year 2019-20. As you know, the Prajyoti Niketan Family consists of the Manager, the Principal, the Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff, Well-Wishers, Parents and Students. Our College is run by Christian Charitable Society and has been reaccredited with ‘A’ Grade by the NAAC. Courses & Programmes We have five aided Under-Graduate Courses and one aided Post-Graduate Course along with a Research Centre in Psychology. Besides, we have been conducting very successfully four UGC sponsored Add-on Programmes, such as Communication Skills in English, Counseling Psychology, Web Technology and Yoga & Health Care. We also conduct Kerala Government sponsored ASAP, WWS and SSP programmes. The coaching programmes like UGC NET, Bank and PSC are being conducted in our College in association with IMS and TIME Thrissur. All these programmes provide opportunities for our students to pursue their studies as per their interest and aptitude. Staff & Students There are 33 teaching staff members including 24 permanent & 09 Guest Lecturers, 18 non-teaching staff members including 17 permanent & 01 temporary staff. The following non-teaching staff are appointed in the office during this year- Mrs Neethu Anto as LD Clerk, Mrs Jini K J as Store Keeper, Mrs Franics Fioona as Computer Assistant, Mrs Reshma Babu and Mr Albin Sunny as Office Attendants. At present, the College has a total strength of 636 students including 172 male and 464 female students. There are 12 Research Scholars in the department of Psychology.

This is celebrated on the uthram day of the Meenam month of the Malayalam Calendar. Uthramvilakku is a temple festival celebrated at Edakkunni in Ollur. The highlight of the event is an over four-hour Panchari Melamin the temple compound past midnight on the uthram day, with each of the five caparisoned elephants on the occasion carrying a deity each from as many temples. Shri Jashubhai Dhanabhai Barad was a Member of the 14th Lok Sabha representing the Junagadh Parliamentary Constituency of Gujarat. He was a Member of the Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and the Committee on Absence of Members from the sittings of the House. Earlier, he was a Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for three terms from 1990 to 2003 and served as Minister in the State of Gujarat. At the time of his demise, Shri Barad was a sitting Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Shri Jashubhai Dhanabhai Barad passed away on 25th January, 2016 in Ahmedabad at the age of 60. Shri Basori Singh Masram was a Member of the 15th Lok Sabha representing the Mandla Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh. Shri Masram was a Member of the Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and the Committee on Papers Laid on the Table. Earlier, Shri Masram was a Member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998 and served as Minister of State in the Government of Madhya Pradesh during 1998. Shri Basori Singh Masram passed away on 26th January, 2016 in Dindori, Madhya Pradesh at the age of 70. Shri Pawan Diwan was a Member of the 10th and 11th Lok Sabhas representing the Mahasamund Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh.
