If you come by car, the most easy and cheapest way to park your car is at the Parka and Ride car parks (P + R). Here you can park your car nearby the city, the costs are low. The only thing you have to do, is use public transportation after you have parked your car, and when you go and collect your car. From Central Station you can go to your destination using a taxi or public transportation. Using a taxi in Amsterdam can be quiet expensive. At Central Station there are stops for the buses, the trams and the metro. Amsterdam has a brand new metroline (North-South line) since the summer of 2018. Please check the website of your hotel to see what is the best public transportation for you. You need a ticket from GVB for your public transportation. RJA van Lammeren Wageningen University & Research 1 2 Abstract In the last years, the crowdedness within the city centre of Amsterdam caused by tourists has come to a point where it is causing nuisance and discontent to the residents of Amsterdam. The Municipality of Amsterdam has tried to find solutions to this problem, such as a halt on new hotels within the city centre and by promoting the outer region of Amsterdam it hopes that tourists will spread out. A new measure of the Municipality is to ban the boarding and disembarking docks of the canal cruises from the city centre and to relocate them outside the city centre. This thesis examines the effect of this imminent policy. An agent-based model was developed to research the influence of the locations of the canal cruises on the crowdedness caused by tourists in the city. The developed model simulates the movement patterns of tourists that take a canal cruise based on two scenarios: one with the current dock locations and one with new dock locations outside the city centre. The agents in the model are based on an operationalization of the actual tourists in Amsterdam. The results from the model show that the relocation of the docks could lead to the spread of tourists towards the neighbouring areas of the city centre.

The boat with the dancers and Dhol players sailed through the three main canals of Amsterdam - Prinsengracht, Leidsegracht and Reguliersgracht covering more than 100 km for over five hours. An initiative of the Embassy of India in The Hague in association with India Tourism, the Boat was decked with banners of Incredible India and the upcoming International Yoga Day celebrations on the side. The boat evinced great interest from the crowds who were captivated by the colourful performances. Dancers from the Netherlands Marathi Mandal staged Dhol, Lavani, Bihu, Bhangra and Ghoomar (folk dances from different parts of India) while members of the Tandav Dance Academy showcased Bollywood dances on the boat. The boat was flagged off in the morning by Ambassador Venu Rajamony who described the “Bollywood/Folk Dances on a Boat” as a colourful and novel addition to the canals of Amsterdam which are the most popular tourist attraction of the country. Prominent members of the Indian Community of Amsterdam joined Ambassador Venu Rajamony and other officials of the Embassy at the flagging off.
