I write in support of Stoke-on-Trent Councils plans to split Stoke and into separate council wards and I ask the Boundary Commission to seriously consider the proposed amendments. Penkhull and Stoke have always been and always will be entirely separate and distinct communities which were never paired together prior to the previous review in 2010. We really do feel that Stoke Town has become irrelevant to us as a commercial centre and we look towards Hanley and and Newcastle-under-Lyme area as our main shopping centres. Also many people in Penkhull work at the Royal Stoke Hospital and in the many health centres around Hartshill and Penkhull and so economically and in terms of employment there is a link that is not shared with the residents in Stoke Town. There our various schools in Penkhull too (around 7 I believe) with Thirstley Hough Academy, The Mount and The Willows to name but a few. So as you can see we really are a self sustaining, close knit community with no need to be a part of any Stoke Town ward. Also on the LGBCE website I notice that the 'Forecast Electorate' for the Penkhull and Stoke area is 5277, where as the council's proposed ward of Penkhull would offer an estimated 4250 electors which is more in keeping with the average electorate across this city. That is why I whole heartedly agree with the council's proposal for a separate electoral council ward for Penkhull that is based around our solid community and the number of electorates it represents and hope you will decide to agree with this new arrangement.

I am a resident in Stoke Town and part of what is Penkhull and Stoke and I would be very supportive of the new proposals from the city council to create a separate Stoke area for local elections. Whilst the current area is called Penkhull and Stoke it's is really just Penkhull with the centre of Stoke Town shoved into it. But we are as different as honey and lemon and it feels like Stoke Town's problems and the running of a crumbling high street are drowned out by the larger concerns of those in Penkhull...of who I would bet a fiver most do not even visit Stoke Town centre. The council's plans to unite as most of Stoke town as possible into a single area with Queensway/A500 as the major road network and the backbone of the newly created council ward is a good one and I rarely commend the council.on anything. This new united area of Stoke would include lots of shops and businesses that share common interests with the regeneration of the town itself including the industrial parks that look set to expand. I love Stoke town and I think it is brilliant that we would finally be taken seriously again by having our own separate area within the council's boundaries. At the moment the town is depressed but with a new influx of money from Heritage England and a determined councillor to solely represent the area of Stoke Town I really do think things can be changed around. Especially if we are separate from the leafy suburban streets of Penkhull that seems to dazzle any councilor who represents it. So please, please, please accept the council's proposals as it is about time we had our own councilor, voted soley by the people of Stoke Town to help us move forward with bringing pride back into the old centre of the potteries! I have attached the map from the council's website for your reference.

To the boundary commissioners, I am writing in support of the Stoke-on-Trent City Council's proposals for Sandford Hill which remains virtually unchanged from what it is now. The existing boundary already forms a strong local community with in Sandford and we find ourselves cut off from what is Fenton East by the bollards installed on Banbury Street and Heathcote. The slight changes to Sandford Hill that the council have proposed also make sense as the number 11 bus that serves Sandyord Hill picks up from Anchor Road and so those properties on Anchor Road do share links with the Sandford Hill Community. I do not believe the council has proposed anything controversial in their plans and I think myself and other residents woukld be happy to accept the proposed changes if they are required.

Please can I implore the commission to accept the city's council's plan to split Stoke from Penkhull. I believe Stoke should be an independent ward and I find it ludicrous that the very town that this city is named after has been tagged onto another area like a afterthought. The residents here in Stoke have issues which are different to the suburban dwellers in Penkhull. We live in little terraces and town houses close to the high street whilst they live in four bedroomed houses as far away from the town centre as possible. I think to be represented fairly at a local level we need our own separate councillors. Judging by the council's proposals this can be achieved fairly and with in the guidelines of the commission so I respectfully ask that you consider this when you make your decision.

Dear sirs, having read about the current boundary commission review and the proposed changing of the boundaries to put right anomalies in the south of the city. I wish to request that you keep the Central ward as it is with only a slight change to accommodate for a small anomaly in Burslem Central. This can be addressed by moving the new estate on the south west of Burslem Central into Moorcroft. This estate is not really in keeping with the heritage of Burslem Central, which are more traditional houses and beautiful old buildings, and famous curry houses on the high street. And whilst I'm not a big fan of western popular music even I know the new estates roads are named after famous pop songs. So I think it would be nice for Candy Lane, Angel Way and Supreme Street to be moved into Moorcroft as they share Grange Park with Moorcroft, where as most in Burslem Central use Westport Lake and it adds a bit of modern culture to a diverse and young community in Moorcroft. God bless you.

I was informed by my local community in Meir South that you are considering putting where I live, on the outskirts of Meir North into Meir South to address an issue with the number of electorate in the ward. I have attached a map of Meir South that was shared with me and you can see where I live on the bottom part of Broadway next to the corner shop. This becomes a part of Meir South. I must say I support this. I have more in common with Meir South coming from a Muslim community and I feel I would be better represented in Meir south with my views and beliefs. Most of the community I am a part of belongs to Meir South and I believe as an ethnic minority we have a better chance of our voices been heard at local level if we were united as one. This was proven in the last local elections where a young Muslim candidate was selected as councillor which I found inspiring, but I also felt let down as I'm not a part of that area. So I hope you will take this proposal seriously please.

I have attached a proposed map of changes to the boundaries for local elections of Broadway and Longton East. It would see Longton West and Longton East become reunited and I think this would be a good idea for local democracy. As one of the famous six towns of the potteries it seems strange that Longton isn't represented as a whole. I understand that each council ward must have so many people of voting age living in it and hence why I request to keep most of Broadway in Longton to provide that number required. I also think that Longton West merging with Longton East provides a better representation of the community of Longton. There is a rising BAME community in Longton but it is split between two council boundaries and so it makes its already small voice, a lot smaller and that dosn't feel fair. With a lot of the BAME community in Longton starting up businesses a long the strand as well as living in Longton east or west it would seem a lot fairer to combine our small but vocal voice so we can be heard on issues that are important to us as a living and working BAME community in Longton.

Dear sir/Madame, I write today to ask you to consider the recently proposed ward boundary changes that have been proposed to Longton West by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. As a proud member of the muslim community I would like nothing more to be rejoined to Longton East so that myself and my family can be apart of local democracy across the whole of Longton. I have brothers and sisters who live in Longton West and Longton East and many also work in and around Longton so it seems right to be able to vote for a local representative who has the best for Longton at heart. Will you give me my voice back so I can vote on what happens across the whole of Longton. Because what happens in one part will surely impact my life in some way whether I'm considered to live in the east or the west. Also Hollybush I have no reason to be a part off. Whilst Broadway I have family there too so again it makes sense to have a part of Broadway in Longton if that is what is required to create this new boundary. I will leave the decision to you but please do consider it. Peace be with you. Bless you.

Dear Local Government Boundary Commission England, I have kindly been sent the proposed changes to the current council ward where I live in Hollybush and Longton West. I must admit I am not one for change when it comes to things like this but I actually think the idea of merging Longton West with Longton East is a very good idea. It is the cornerstone of this city as far as I am aware and as one of the traditional six towns it makes sense that it receives the recognition it deserves, especially considering it continues to thrive whilst the city centre of Hanley and the old town of Stoke (to which our city is named after) seem to be going the opposite way. In terms of local democracy I noticed that Hollybush by the data you have provided is already inflated with electorate and only looks to increase in size over the coming years. Taking Longton West out of Hollybush and merging it with Longton East seems to solve this issue : with the new Longton and Broadway gaining in size but only marginally and not enough to cause concern. As someone who is employed in Longton I must say that it also makes sense that residents have a shared vote over what happens across Longton, by splitting it up it becomes overcomplicated. I'm never sure who is in charge of what and what if our local councillors disagree on the next step of moving Longton forward? In this rapidly changing world and especially after the pandemic, quick action is required at times. Not diver and arguing over politics or something else. It would seem to me that the council for once have listened to residents and have got this proposal absolutely right and I hope when it comes time to make your decision that you will agree with the council, the people of Longton and approve the new proposals. Thank you.

I am very pleased to see the council has proposed to pair Townsend with Bentillee in the proposed redrawing of wards for the boundary review. I live in Townsend and often travel to shop in Bentilee and I use the post office on Dawlish Drive which is a god send to me. There is also Bentillee Library that I hope to be able to use once restrictions are lifted as I enjoy reading and it is where I learned to use technology like computers and computer phones which again have done me good during this lockdown. I very rarely go into Abbey Hulton which is like a closed off community in many ways. And if Bentilee can't provide me with what I need I will catch the bus into Hanley. Getting on in age and believing in my right to vote I must also inform you that Townsend and Bentillee have always been a very close community and it feels much more natural therefore to share the same councillor and vote for the issues we share as one community. I hope you will agree with the council's plans and approve their recommendations.

To whom it may concern. I have many concerns that centre around the review into boundaries caused by the council ward I live in that is and Shelton.Firstly it makes no sense why the current electorate is so low compared to other parts of the city. Looking at the available data from 2019 it is estimated that there are 5000 people in Shelton and Hanley Park of voting age. So I do wonder if by adding to the ward boundaries if it will make any difference to the future electorate. It is obvious to me what the issue seems to be and that is one of engagement in local democracy, but also a failure by the council to communicate with the ethnic minorities who may not understand how to register or may even be fearful to register to vote. Though I do so wonder that as a vast majority of Shelton centres around University and the cheap student accommodation in Shelton, if this too plays a part in it . However I do suppose by adding more potential electors to Hanley Park and Shelton you increase the probability of an electorate but I feel caution must be used as not to overwhelm local government and services. Whilst residents may not vote or register to do so. Hanley Park and Shelton is now nearly 50% made up of black, asian and ethnic minorities, it is also estimated to have the lowest average household income in this city and the highest levels of deprevation. That is a lot of people in need. Whilst they may not register to vote I have no doubt they will call on the local councilor and the council for aid more than most do in this city. Whilst I understand your priority must be the number of electorate, I do ask that you consider if by adding more people to an already overloaded area if you are not setting a dangerous level of caseload for a councilor to deal with. That is why when I look at the council's proposed plan for Hanley Park and Shelton which aims to put right the issues raised by the commission then I must agree that moving forward this is the most sensible and justified solution. Some of the smaller areas are shared with other wards and we would take in a part of Etruia to balance the number of registered electorate. I have also seen data produced by the council to suggest that this would see the electorate become 4288 in Hanley Park and Shelton. I'm not sure if that would be a current figure after the changes were made or a future forecast but it would seem that this would then hit the same average as in most places around this city. I feel this is the fairest solution. It has minimal impact on an area that really requires special attention, a deft hand, and one that sadly if there is too much change all at once could have such a terrible impact on many of the most vunerable people in this city. Again I understand you have a job to do and it's really up to the council and central government to help these people, but I hope you understand the point I am trying so hard to make. I think to carve up Hanley Park and Shelton would be disastrous and equally to overload it with more problems would be bad too. The council's proposals seem to find a balance between helping you complete your aims at the same time as not impacting the community greatly so that normal services can continue to help them through s councilor who is trusted by them. I think in the long run it is up to the council and the councilor to encourage people to register to vote and to explain to them that here in the UK there is no penalty for having your voice heard. There is plenty of opportunity when these people call on the council for help. I have attached the map I have seen for you to review though I imagine you saw it before I even knew it was created. I hope you can see that I feel very passionate about democracy, the council ward I live in of Hanley Park and Shelton, and I hope you will sincerely consider the council's proposed changes. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments.

I think the Hanford and Trentham ward which currently has 2 Councillors should be split in half and covered by one Councillor each. As a resident it can be confusing which Councillor to go to, so have a separate Hanford ward and Trentham ward.

I live in Hanford and my parents have recently moved to Trentham. We live within walking distance of each other and they are in my childcare support bubble which is brilliant as it means that I can still work in the pandemic. We love having two councillors as the area’s fit seamlessly together and we would be really upset if we were to be separated. Before the pandemic we would all socialise in the Man in Space pub and we both use the local hairdressers, chip shop and co-op. We also have a local Doctors surgery, Hanford Clinic, and we can get everything we need in one area. I feel like I still have that community connection with my parents, as well as the fact is that we live in the same area. We also have access to the shops and local amenities in Hanford. I have close friends in Hanford and I regularly take my children to Hanford Park, which is the only public park in the whole Trentham area. We are all one community and I feel like we naturally belong together. When I heard of this boundary review, I felt a pang of panic. It may seem such a small matter, but for someone like me and my family, who take a serious interest in local politics, I just do not want Hanford and Trentham to become separate. When I vote locally, I do not just vote for matters I deem important, I vote for my family and friends, my local community and businesses and they are all in Hanford and Trentham. The area should be kept as one with two councillors. It may need to lose some of the community to make the numbers work. I have spoken to one of my councillors and she has told me that the council is proposing a solution to you which will keep Hanford and Trentham together and at the same time bringing into the right size. This seems like the best solution, so I hope you will adopt the council's solution.

I have noted that the existing Hanley Park and Shelton ward is one of the areas that was significantly below the boundary commission’s acceptable electoral threshold and that significant changes were required to bring the ward up to the required standard. In the light of this, I believe that the City Council revised Hanley Park and Shelton ward is the best option for the area, uniting the majority of the student population and campus and buildings into a single electoral ward. The ward is very well served by local shops and amenities; transport links with College Road acting as the major bus route through the centre of the ward and Stoke Railway station to the immediate south of the ward. The ward also includes the City Central Mosque with much of the community that it serves. Shelton is a well defined community and the proposal seeks to keep the community together as much as possible. Whilst it will always be difficult to draw the lines to please everybody, this City council proposal to keep Shelton united and to bring together the student community is perhaps the best that we can expect. I therefore add my support to the proposal.

I am pleased that the council suggestion for the Shelton ward is to bring together the City Central Mosque with the local community in the same electoral area. I am a nurse living in just off Newcastle Road and at the moment, much of what you might call the ‘health quarter’ of the city is split between the Springfields and the Penkhull wards. So I was delighted to see that the City Council have recognised the importance of bringing together the areas around the Royal Stoke into a single voting area. Hospital workers are one of our most valuable assets and many of us live in the surrounding areas that are being brought together by the council proposal. I hope that you will consider the Royal Stoke and Springfields ward proposal favourably in your review.

Please could I write in support of the Royal Stoke and Springfields ward boundary proposal by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The new ward boundary unites the hospital with the homes of the hospital workers whilst also keeping together the Springfields community and much of Trent Vale. The ward is also well served by some of the best transport links in the City with two buses cutting through the Royal Stoke Hospital linking Newcastle, Stoke and Hanley and Newcadtle and Longton respectively. There is also the number 101 bus that travels along Newcastle Road linking Newcastle, Hanley and Stafford.Newcastle Road also covers a number of retail parks, a Tesco Express, Aldi, B&M which makes it a mini destination for shoppers in the area without having to travel to the main centres of Newcastle or Hanley. In short, the council’s proposed ward will create a strong and united community on the western boundary of the city.

I am in general support of the council’s proposals for the revised Hartshill and Basford ward. It seems to me that the major change, apart from the inclusion of Cliff Vale which I don’t think will be controversial, is the removal of the areas east of to the proposed Stoke ward. The area in question is on the periphery of the town of Stoke and forms a more natural cohesive community with Stoke than with Hartshill further to the west of the park. I can see the logic behind this because it allows the creation of a dedicated ward serving Stoke whilst also pairing down Basford and Hartshill ward to more closely serve the Basford and Hartshill communities. Our area generally looks further west to Newcastle than to Stoke or Hanley and we have a direct link to both towns via the 101 bus along Shelton New Road. Cliffe Vale is linked to us via the Route 4 bus from Hanley to Newcastle which uses Etruria Road on the northern boundary of the proposed ward. The south of the proposed ward is also linked to Newcastle and Hanley via Stoke by the number 11 and number 25 buses that use Hartshill Road. Together, these form the major transport arteries of the ward. It is difficult to see how any alternative boundaries could be drawn up that equally accommodate the Basford and Hartshill, Stoke and Penkhull communities as well as the City Council are proposing and so I am happy to support the council boundaries.
