Print the Whole Itinerary Roundtrips Itinerary Serbia Four Day Tour Expect quick and easy way to explore several iconic sites in Serbia. On top of that add local food and wine experience. You will be accompanied by your private local guide who will give you insights about Serbian way of life. Iconic landmarks of Serbia Homemade dishes Experience village life Try selected Serbian wines Day - 1 Bor Lake MEETING, IRON GATE GORGE, GOLUBAC FORTRESS, LEPENSKI VIR, BOR LAKE (L, D) First stop is town of Golubac, where the Danube river is widest on its whole flow – 7km from side to side. After a short stop we continue little further down the river, to the famous Golubac fortress which guards the gorge entrance. Next stop is prehistorical settlement Lepenski vir, dating from 8000 BC. It’s located in the heart of the Iron Gate gorge. Here you’ll experience how life looked like on the bank of Danube in prehistorical times. Lunch stop is on Captain Misa’s hill. It’s a household where local family runs small ethnic complex where you’ll try local food and learn something about their life in this part of Serbia. After lunch you’ll see the most attractive parts in the gorge, Mali and Veliki Kazan ravines. From viewpoints above Danube you’ll enjoy most iconic views over the gorge, together with sculpture of Dacian king Decebalus carved in rock on the Romanian side. First night is planned on the Bor lake. Here you’ll have a chance to relax in hotel’s pool after exciting day or to enjoy a stroll around the lake. First stop on the itinerary is Felix Romuliana. This UNESCO site is Roman palace from the IV century, built by Roman Emperor Galerius. From here we continue to the Monastery Ravanica. This XIV century monastery has great importance for Serbia’s national pride and identity. Midday stop for break and lunch is planned at the attractive waterfall Veliki buk, surrounded by intact nature (if you feel warm you can take a dip into cold mountain spring water). In a cozy small restaurant directly by the creek we’ll have local specialties for lunch. After a deserved break we’ll drive to Manasija Monastery from the XV century. Here you’ll learn why Serbian medieval rulers carried the title of Despot and who was Despot Stefan Lazarevi?. From Manasija we continue to West Serbia and its Šumadija region. Here, in the village Mala Vrbica you’ll have a chance to meet locals from household House of ?olovi?. This rural guesthouse is a perfect representative of Serbian hospitality. Comfortable stay is combined with kind hosts and tasty local food. Overnight: Village Mala Vrbica Day - 3 Belgrade TOPOLA, OPLENAC MAUSOLEUM, WINERIES, BELGRADE (B, L, D) Third day will start with reach and tasty homemade breakfast. After you say goodbye to our hosts, the trip continues through Šumadija to nearby town of Topola. Renewal of modern Serbian state started there in 1804. On the tip of Oplenac hill you’ll visit the Royal mausoleum, church where 27 members of royal family are buried. It is decorated with mosaics: 40 million pieces in 15.000 shades of colour. From this point onward you are only enjoying Šumadija wine. First, we’ll stop by Royal wine cellar, established in 1930s by Serbian king. After this one we’ll visit most prominent Serbian winery Aleksandrovi?. As a grand finale of the day we’ll have a local lunch with wine tasting at young family owned winery. After lunch we are leaving Šumadija and heading to Belgrade for the rest of the day. After check-in in the city center close to all main attractions, you have free time for your self. Overnight: Belgrade Day - 4 Belgrade BELGRADE FORTRESS, TITO'S TOMB, ST. SAVA CHRUCH, ZEMUN, DEPARTURE (B, L) We’ll take you first to Belgrade fortress, the most iconic Belgrade landmark. Then from the fortress we move to other part of the city, posh Dedinje. You’ll visit House of flowers, which is eternal home of former Yugoslavian president Tito. Your Serbian Expert will explain how Tito’s cult was nurtured during his life, but also long after he was gone. From controversial Yugoslavian dictator’s tomb we’ll take you to a holy place, to St. Sava church. This the biggest Orthodox temple in the Balkans is dedicated to true saint who was born in the XII and who brought autonomy to Serbian Orthodox Church in the XIII century. When we finish this part of exploration we’ll take you to a restaurant in the neighborhood, where local food is prepared in modern manner. After lunch we’ll switch to the other side of the river, to Zemun. This old part of the city was actually separate town till 1934. Stroll along Danube promenade or walk to the Gardoš hill and drink in one of the local cafe’s will make you fill like a local.     Activities in Belgrade Sights to see 1. Belgrade Fortress (Kalemegdan Park) The number one must-see location in the city. Some 115 battles have been fought over impressive Kalemegdan. Over the centuries, the citadel has been destroyed more than 40 times. The building of the fortification began in Celtic times, which the Romans extended onto the flood plains during their settlement of 'Singidunum', Belgrade's Roman name. Much of what stands today is the product of 18th-century Austro-Hungarian and TurKish reconstructions. The fort's bloody history, discernible despite today's plethora of jolly cafes and funfairs, only maKes Kalemegdan all the more fascinating. Entering from Knez Mihailova, go through the 18th- century Karadjordje Gate to reach the Upper Town (Gornji grad) of the fortress. From the Stambol Gate (1750), you will reach the Military Museum and the 27.5 metre high ClocK Tower. Further along, you will see a small bricK octagon; this is the 1784 Ali Pasha's Turbeh (tomb), one of Belgrade's few well- preserved Islamic monuments. The Roman Well is nearby, a mysterious 60m deep hole (more a cistern than a well) of dubious origin and shrouded in horrifying legends; apparently the well even managed to creep out a visiting Alfred HitchcocK! Looming beside it is the Victor Monument, a symbol of Belgrade erected in 1928 to commemorate Serbia’s victories over the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires during the BalKan Wars and WWI. This 14 metre high monument is the city’s most recognisable landmarK and famous Belgrade attraction. The plateau around the monument is always crowded with tourists and Belgrade natives, partly because of the breath-taKing view over the confluence of the two rivers that flow through Belgrade, and the beauty of this landmarK as part of the historic Belgrade Fortress.

Abstract Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level.

The Danube river waters are of prime importance for Danubean countries and a change in people's treatment and relation to water is necessary at both national and international level. This implies application of long-term environmentally compatible economic strategies in accordance with bio-culture, which, at the bottom line, should lead tt the concept of sustainable development. There is an interest in Yugoslavia for international co-operation with Danubean countries and vice versa, as well as the concern for environment in the Yugoslavian part of the Danube basin, problems and means for management of pollution sources in the area.

  • Was Lepenski Vir an Ancient Sun Or Pleiades Observatory?
    WAS LEPENSKI VIR AN ANCIENT SUN OR PLEIADES OBSERVATORY? Vladan Panković , Milan Mrdjen, Miodrag Krmar Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences, 21000 Novi Sad, Trg Dositeja Obradovića 4. , Serbia, [email protected] Abstract In this work we testify using simulation programs some old hypotheses according to which remarkable mesolithic village Lepenski Vir (6500 – 5500 BC) at the right (nearly west) Danube riverside in the Iron gate in Serbia was an ancient (one of the oldest) Sun (proto) observatory. We use method recently suggested by A. C. Sparavigna, concretely we use at internet simply and freely available software or local Sun radiation direction simulation and calculation computer programs. In this way we obtain and discuss figures of the sunrise in the Lepenski Vir during winter and summer solstice and spring and autumnal equinox in relation to position of the mountains, especially Treskavac (Trescovat in Romanian) and Kukuvija at left (nearly east) Danube riverside (in Romania). While mountain Kukuvija represents really the natural marker for the Sun in date of the winter solstice, mountain Treskavac, in despite to usual opinions, does not represent any real marker for the Sun in date of the summer solstice. Sun rises exactly behind Treskavac, relatively exactly (in the domain of used methods) speaking, between 20. April and 1. May. It more or less corresponds to year period when heliacal rising of the Pleiades constellation occurs, which by many ancient cultures, e.g. Celts of northern Europe, denotes very beginning of the year. Really, in common with some other facts obtained using at internet simply and freely available stellarium software or sky objects position simulation programs, we demonstrate that for the Lepenski Vir observer heliacal rising of the Pleiades ends exactly at 20.
