The article studies possibility by using the data of the Road Weather Information Systems to forecast the be- ginning of precipitation on the roads maintained by the state road maintenance enterprises. The article discusses the importance of forecasts both to the road users as well as road maintenance enterprises, especially in a cold period of the year. The hazards caused by meteorological phenomena specific of winter season are presented. Research methodology is described which is based on the speed of movement of clouds carrying precipitation. To calculate speed the theoreti- cal background is given assisting in selection of certain parameters for the determination of this value. Knowing the speed of movement of clouds the forecasts have been made. Results of the forecasts are compared to the real parameters and it is determined in what radius the forecasts are advisable to be made. Vileišio g. 5 LT-10308 Vilnius, Lithuania E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The article provides an analysis of the accentuation of disyllabic nouns in the Southern Aukštaitian (SAuk) dialect spoken in Southern Lithuania (Alytus, Lazdijai, Varėna, Šalčininkai, Druskininkai and Trakai districts). The term pietų aukštaičiai (southern Aukštaitians) was coined by scholars; because of certain phonetic peculiarities of the dialect, the inhabitants of southern Lithuania consider themselves to be dzūkai (Dzūkians). The SAuk has been of special interest to both dialectologists and Baltic language specialists for a long time. The archaic grammatical forms, syntactic constructions, phonetic, accentual and lexical peculiarities that are features of these dialects are intertwined with new phenomena and thus reveal many stages of the development of the dialect of the Southern Aukštaitians, which in turn can be of help in finding answers to some unanswered questions about the development and usage of language. For this reason more attention and research has been devoted to the SAuk dialect and its broader connections with language as a whole. The article analyses the tendencies of the accentuation parallels of disyllabic nouns with ā, ē, a and i̯ a1 stems in the SAuk dialect. Drawing on audio and written sources dating from 1952–2015, the spread of the accentuation variants of the words and their forms in the same subdialect, separate subdialects and/or their groups are discussed; the accentuation patterns of disyllabic nouns with the productive ā, ē, a and i̯ a1 stems that are stressed in various ways are described, and the nature of their prevalence in the area of the dialect is established.

Urmański ABSTRACT The article presents an analysis of the activities of the Trakai palatine and land marshal of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Jonas Jonaitis Zaberezinskis (died 1538), as the administrator of state and private lands in Užnemunė. The author analyses this figure’s relations with the efforts initiated by Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund the Old and his wife Bona Sforza to improve the state’s finances. Based on the work already done by previous authors and source data, the author tries to reconstruct the magnate groups that existed in the 1520s and 1530s, and also to analyse Zaberezinskis’ economic administration in the region where most data has survived regarding his activities, i.e. in Užnemunė, in the period from 1506 when Alytus and Simnas came under the jurisdiction of the Zaberezinskis family following the privilege of Alexander Jagiellon, until the death of Jonas Jonaitis Zaberezinskis in 1538. Domestic and foreign policy of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) in the times of Sigismund the Old has on numerous occasions been analysed in historical scientific literature, yet we still come across data that can broaden our knowledge of this topic even further. Polish chancellor Jan Chojeński gave a good description of the domestic situation in Lithuania in the beginning of the 1530s in his letter dated 30 July 1533 to the Polish deputy-chancellor, Piotr Tomicki.

He was to interview witnesses on the spot over a disputed property case between a boyar of His Majesty Piotr Sumarok and Eišiškės subject Sieńka Ivaškavič. The judicial body, headed by the Marshal2 of His Majesty Maciej Vojciechavič Kločka, “ordered Sumarok and Sieńka Ivaškavič not to go to those witnesses beforehand, but join the decki”. Sumarok asked permission not to join the decki, but to stay in Vilnius. What a surprise it was for the decki when he met Sumarok on the road to Eišiškės “al- ready going back from witnesses”. The court offi cial asked the plaintiff : «“Sumarok, where are the witnesses?”, – and he pointed out the witnesses in a birchwood. Then, when the witnesses stood in front of me and wanted to confess, Sumarok started talking to them in Lithuanian (emphasis mine. – A.Dz.) and asked them: “For God’s sake do not betray me, and what I promised I will give you, and will not betray you”».

Skowronek (2000), in which an at- tempt was made to account on historical and etymological grounds for the ex- tremely high popularity of that seemingly unimposing surname in Poland. The surname, nevertheless, remained a mystery. In what follows, the Lithuanian sur- name Kazlauskas will be considered with a somewhat similar objective in mind. Kazlauskas1 is unquestionably a Lithuanian cognate of Kozłowski, a fact which raises a number of questions regarding the exact nature of their mutual relationship. It has been topping surname frequency lists in Lithuania for many years now, with 13008 bearers (Kazlauskas 7710, Kazlauskienė 2232, Kazlauskaitė 3066) in the year 20142, yielding the percentage of 0.37 in the total population of Lithuania3. The surname in question is, beyond any doubt, of Slavic (most likely Polish) origin as are nearly two thirds of surnames in contemporary Lithuania. This alone makes it different from Lewandowski, whose etymology remains uncertain, despite a number of likely explanations. In K.
