Applications may be inspected free of charge at the Office of the Traffic Commissioner in Leeds by any person who carries written authorisation to act in that capacity. Objections against published applications may be made in writing by a Chief Officer of Police, a local authority, a planning authority or a prescribed trade union or association within 21 days of the date on which notice of an application is published in Applications and Decisions. Objections must be made either on the grounds that any of the requirements listed in Section 13 of the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 are not met and/or that a nominated operating centre will be unsuitable for use as such. A copy of the objection must be sent by the objector to the applicant at the same time that it is sent to the Traffic Commissioner. The onus of proof in terms of the grounds on which an objection is lodged lies with the objector. You may fax a copy of your objection to 0113 2488521 but please note that you must send the original signed document through the post. Classification of Operator Licences – There are three classes of licence: A Restricted (R) licence authorises the use of a goods vehicle on public roads in Great Britain for the carriage of the licence holder’s own goods in the course of his trade or business. The licence holder cannot carry goods for other people for hire or reward; A Standard National (SN) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward, on public roads in Great Britain. He can also carry his own goods on journeys abroad; A Standard International (SI) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward. Pox Britannica: Smallpox Inoculation in Britain, 1721-1830 Abstract Inoculation has an important place in the history of medicine: not only was it the first form of preventive medicine but its history spans the so-called eighteenth century 'medical revolution'. A study of the myriad of pamphlets, books and articles on the controversial practice casts new light on these fundamental changes in the medical profession and medical practice. Whereas historians have associated the abandonment of old humoural theories and individualised therapy in favour of standardised techniques with the emergence of new institutions in the second half of the century, inoculation suggests that changes began as early as the 1720s. Though inoculation was initially accompanied by a highly individualised preparation of diet and drugs, more routinised sequences of therapy appeared the 1740s and by the late 1760s all inoculated patients followed exactly the same preparative regimen. This in turn made possible the institutionalised provision of inoculation, first through the system of poor relief, later by dispensaries and charitable societies.

Great progress has been made in the neighbouring counties: no less than fourteen volumes of Gloucestershire Registers, eleven of Hampshire and six of Wiltshire have already been issued. The Editor trusts that, now the Berkshire series has been commenced, it will be possible to issue two volumes annually; but to secure such progress both transcribers and subscribers are requisite. The important Register of the town of Wantage has been selected for the commencement of the series, and it will be seen that the entries in it are very numerous, filling indeed nearly the whole of the volume. Resolved, That the Adjutant General be and is hereby directed to have published a hundred copies, duly certified, of the Muster Rolls of the Soldiers otthewarof 1812, which are on file in his Department ; and that one copy be sent to the Cleik of the county court in each county of this State. Resolved further, That when it shall be made appear to the Treasurer, that the requirements of the above Resolution have been complied with, he shall pay to the Adjutant General, as a compensation for his services, out of any money not otherwise appropriated, the sum of one hundred dollars. Four decades ago, the Vision Foundation (then named the Greater London Fund for the Blind) received a bequest of the estate of Irma Löwenstein Austin (c.1892-1976) when she died without an heir. More recently, the charity discovered that pictures she and her husband had sold under duress in Vienna in 1938 were in museums in Munich, Dortmund and Berlin.
