Since its opening chord, rock and roll has been about playing live, and no group did it better, and with more passion and improvisational skill than the original Allman Brothers Band. Nothing is truer than when the band achieved its artistic and commercial breakthrough in 1971 with the release of At Fillmore East, featuring extended renderings of their songs "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post". It is often considered one of the best live albums ever made.
“The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings” is the five Fillmore east concerts compiled together in 3 Blu-Ray, 6 CD and4 LP formats, 37 tracks, 15 of which are previously unreleased. This is a never before released look into those epic live shows and it showcases the Allman Brothers Southern rock at its most elastic, bluesy, and jazzy. It also includes extensive liner notes within the accompanying booklet, which allows us a look into what made those concerts so special, both for the audience and the band.

“Business is bad” confesses Karen Mantler, and many in the music world will sympathize. Almost 20 years have passed since Karen’s last leader album on XtraWatt (Farewell). In the interim she has been a Virgin artist with her Pet Project disc, appeared on several recordings with parents Michael Mantler (The School of Understanding) and Carla Bley (The Carla Bley Big Band Goes To Church, Looking for America, Appearing Nightly), been a member of the Golden Palaminos, participated in diverse Robert Wyatt tribute bands and homages to Disney and Nino Rota, played accordion on street corners, given harmonica lessons, and served coffee in SoHo.
The struggle to maintain her own projects has perhaps strengthened her own brand of whimsical songwriting. Snowstorms, volcanoes, lawyers and bill-collectors do their damnedest to dampen Mantler’s moods in these songs of woe but Karen’s vocal delivery remains stoical and nonchalant. Doug Wieselman (of Anthony and the Johnsons, Lounge Lizards, and Kamikaze Ground Crew fame) and Kato Hideki (whose many credits include the Death Ambient trio and projects with John Zorn) lend subtle and supple support throughout.

Project Overview: Created in Epworth's own studio it is undoubtedly among this year's most striking debuts. The title, lifted from Dave's favorite childhood story, comes from William Steig's The Zabajaba Jungle. Steig's evocation of childhood adventure, exoticism and discovery is brilliantly fresh. ZABA is one complete beast and a journey you will get most from if you immerse yourself fully and listen from start to finish. "The sound of the record," Dave says, "is like a backdrop of man-made wilderness..."
Influenced by the exploratory, New World scenarios of Apocalypse Now, The Island of Dr Moreau, Heart of Darkness, The African Queen and Mosquito Coast, ZABA's songs tackle the humanization of nature and human interference with nature. "Even now a lot of my favorite books are those books that I grew up with," he says. "Things like Zabajaba, like Roald Dahl, like Wind in the Willows. I suppose all I've been doing is using those little creatures and animals to cover up what I really meant, to disguise who and what I was really talking about."
Inspired by Kanye West and Charles Darwin, Nina Simone and the Velvet Underground, ZABA is a rich and textured work, a very special record indeed. With Dave producing and Epworth as A&R and mentor, the studio became their home and the band were free to record, improvise and write at their own speed, making their sound a bigger, brighter, heavier and more intense experience than ever before.
The first single, "Gooey" is wobbly and child-like, a hymn to naivety. "There's a confidence in the way children act," Dave says. "I was trying to push that confidence into the beat." Walla-Walla goes back to Dave's love of Timbaland and Dr Dre, while Intruxx, initially the introduction to the entire record, summarizes this entire new world you're entering.

Project Overview: With influences ranging from a lifelong love of pop melodies and the ‘80s New Wave through J. Dilla to The Mahavishnu Orchestra, LA based producer and multi-instrumentalist Lost Midas treads an aesthetic turf somewhere between Neon Indian and Bibio; irresistible and enduring ditties peeped through a shifting shroud of striking textures and idiosyncratic beats.
Lost Midas is the alter ego of Boston born Jason Trikakis, who first established himself as a hip hop drummer throughout his teens and into his ‘20s. As the anchor of popular hip hop and funk seven-piece the Press Project, which formed at university in New Hampshire, Trikakis had his first taste of full scale touring, including support for The Roots and backing for Slick Rick. A stint in indie rock band The Honors in the mid 2000s, along with various session work including for Nigerian vocalist Iyeoka, also widened his horizons.
Mastering a range of instruments along the way (including his current favourite, the keys), he gradually developed an obsession with composition and the endless possibilities within the realm of electronic production.
Having decided to step out as a solo artist and producer, Trikakis found himself inspired by the LA music scene – feeling a magnetic pull to Los Angeles. Almost overnight he made the move to LA, a shake-up which would prove to inspire and crystallise the Lost Midas sound he’d been searching for. Initially stumped by queries of the “what kind of stuff do you make?” variety, Trikakis has coined the tag ‘electrofusion’ to describe his Lost Midas music.
Lost Midas was snapped up by Tru Thoughts in Summer 2013 and his debut release was the “Memory Flux” EP, followed by the “Hyper Phase” EP, both produced in the LA studio he shares with his brother (producer/DJ NüTrik). His debut album “Off The Course” is out Summer 2014.

Chaka Khan has been singing for 35 years. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award singer began her career in the early 1970’s with the pre-imminent funk group Rufus. This live performance at New York’s famed jazz club The Blue Note finds Chaka in great voice performing a rare catalog of songs closely associated with jazz. Originally released in 1997, Where have all the merrymakers gone? catapulted the young band to stardom with the massive radio and video success of their anthemic hit song “Flagpole Sitta.” The album has since sold over half a million copies with the single still receiving regular airplay on radio stations across the country.
For many critics, Harvey Danger’s history begins and ends with “Flagpole Sitta.” However, a revisitation of Where have all the merrymakers gone? reveals an album that transcends it’s most famous song with music that is smart, sardonic and dynamic and a band that was far more than simply a “one hit wonder.”
Harvey Danger emerged from the garages and basements of mid‐'90s Seattle playing music that walked a line between indie‐rock and pop‐punk, with an uncommon emphasis on the clever, heartfelt lyrics. They never sought worldwide notoriety, but managed the best they could when it was thrust upon them. Simply put it was four kids, Aaron Huffman (bass), Jeff Lin (guitar), Evan Sult (drums) and Sean Nelson (vocals), who created a song and an album that made a mark on rock music and whose pleasures have only deepened with time.
In preparation for the upcoming release, singer Sean Nelson wrote a foreword for the vinyl release, looking back on the album and its unexpected success.

To hear the person you were when you weren’t yet who you are now is to understand how little you understood, and to recognize how little you even could have understood. In the six years since the release of their last full‐length record, Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens have toured extensively, playing main stages at some of the most prestigious festivals in the world, including Bonnaroo, The Monterey Jazz Festival, Montreal Pop, and The Ottawa Blues Festival.
