Recent observations with SPHERE and NACO in the near-infrared (NIR) allowed us to detect a planetary mass companion, PDS 70 b, within the disk cavity. Moreover, observations in Hα with MagAO and MUSE revealed emission associated to PDS 70 b and to another new companion candidate, PDS 70 c, at a larger separation from the star. PDS 70 is the only multiple planetary system at its formation stage detected so far through direct imaging. Aims. Our aim is to confirm the discovery of the second planet PDS 70 c using SPHERE at VLT, to further characterize its physical properties, and search for additional point sources in this young planetary system.

  • Chef Marcelle Afram of Bluejacket Wins DC Central Kitchen's Capital
Chef Marcelle Afram of Bluejacket Wins DC Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight Signature fundraising event raises over $815,000 for local nonprofit’s culinary training and anti-hunger programs November 7, 2019 – Washington, D.C. – Chef Marcelle Afram took home the top honor last night at DC Central Kitchen’s signature fundraising event, Capital Food Fight, presented by Smithfield Foods. Local chefs Marcelle Afram of Bluejacket, Kyoo Eom of Dirty Habit, Adam Greenberg of Coconut Club, and Johanna Hellrigl of Mercy Me went head-to-head in a thrilling culinary battle on the stage of DC’s hottest event venue, The Anthem. This year’s Capital Food Fight brought together over 2,000 guests, 80 tasting restaurants and live on-stage entertainment at The Anthem. Battling chefs were asked to create dishes using secret ingredients ranging from Simply Seasoned Plant-Based Protein Starters presented by Pure Farmland, a Smithfield Foods brand, Stokes Purple® sweet potatoes, presented by Keany Produce and Gourmet and Frieda’s Specialty Produce, and Global Animal Partnership Rated Dry Aged Tomahawk Steak presented by Whole Foods Market. In a nod to DC’s mixology scene, guests voted in the People’s Choice Mixology Competition, sponsored by Beam Suntory. Six mixologists poured specialty cocktails before Sophie Szych of Quill was named the 2019 People’s Choice winner for her creation, “Knobbing for Apples” prepared with Knob Creek Rye. Nationally recognized celebrities came out in full force for the 16th year of Capital Food Fight. • Restaurant Guide: October 2013
Restaurant Guide: October 2013 The Local Arrangements Working Group (LAWG) has assembled a list of restaurants that we hope will shorten the time you need to search for places and lengthen the time you can spend enjoying yourselves. After listing some common search engines you can use to find restaurants, this guide includes favorites from LAWG members and other listings sourced from local and credible sources. Don’t Take Our Word for It, Look at These Resources! Here are some online resources for selecting restaurants and other places to get refreshments. Most include ratings from their members or subscribers. These tend to be valid because of the reputation and the number of respondents, even if there is a bit of participation self-selection bias . Many of the websites listed below also have user-friendly apps available. Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/. A quick graphical way to search for restaurants. Just enter your search criteria in the window (e.g. restaurants walking distance Washington Hilton), and hit return. Warning: Google searches may be biased towards advertisers. Open Table: http://www.opentable.com/washington-dc-restaurants Make on-line reservations and read restaurant reviews. Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g28970- Washington_DC_District_of_Columbia.html. Searchable by cuisine, neighborhood (80 listings in DuPont Circle), and other refined searches. Urban Spoon: http://www.urbanspoon.com/g/7/400/DC-restaurants. More searches, including by neighborhood. Includes ratings by members. Over 150 listings for DuPont Circle, including the percentage that gives each place a thumbs up. Washington City Paper Best of DC: http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/bestofdc/foodanddrink.
