Letter from our Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, On behalf of all of us on our parish pastoral staff, I offer you our wishes that you feel the joy of the Gospel and that the power of the Good News of Jesus will be at the center of your life. One of the models for Christian living is the passage in Luke’s Gospel about the two disciples on the day of resurrection who were walking on the Road to Emmaus. They honestly talked with one another and shared their worries, questions, hope, and faith. They met a stranger on the way. They extended hospitality. They listened intently as the stranger offered helpful information. They eventually recognized the stranger as Jesus hopes when they broke bread together. And then they noticed that their hearts were on fire. In a large parish like ours, we need to know that we can connect with good folks with whom we can honestly talk. We need to give and receive the blessing of hospitality and we are encouraged by companions who have also come to know the Lord in the Breaking of the Bread. Our PARISH DIRECTORY gives us the names and contact information for fellow parishioners - fellow travelers on our parish’s pilgrimage to Emmaus. And, just as over 2000 years ago, our hearts can be so touched by our encounters with Jesus and His Spirit within our congregation that our zeal gets ignited and we desire to take one more step in our involvement in the ministries which we as parishioners can provide. Therefore, a second component of our directory is a descriptive list of our PARISH MINISTRIES and the parishioners to contact if you would like to be involved. We are called to be disciples, to seek to know Jesus, to learn how best to live for Jesus, and to give new life as Jesus did. Our directory gives us a picture of who we are, offers some suggestions of how we can make a difference, and gives us directions for our communal Emmaus Walk. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Paul

2 Cathedral of Christ the King Guide Book Mission Statement We are a parish dedicated to living and spreading the power of the Eucharist and the Joy of the Gospel. We are dedicated to parish-wide formation as intentional disciples so that all will be equipped to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission in our homes, Church, and world. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20 A Brief History CTK was formed on Sunday, July 22, 1945, when the first Mass was held in the Chapel of St. Catherine’s Academy on N. Limestone St. The first pastor, Father George J. O’Bryan, led the original congregation numbering about 100. Because of Fr. O’Bryan’s ill health, the Rev. Richard Garland O’Neill, a Lexington native, soon replaced him. On May 12, 1946, services were conducted for the first time at our current site, Colony and Providence Roads, in a prefabricated structure. The building, which eventually had 2 additions built on to it, was moved here from the Diocese of Covington. Our School began classes in the present school building in the fall of 1951, staffed by the Sisters of Divine Providence. From 1965-1967 the current church, in a contemporary cruciform design, and the rectory were constructed at a cost of $1.5 million. They were dedicated in May, 1967. The diocese of Lexington was formed on March 2, 1988 for a 50 county area of Kentucky with the Most Rev. J. Kendrick Williams installed as and pastor of the Cathedral of Christ the King. That same year the Baptistery was converted to the Eucharistic Chapel to serve as a 24-hour prayer center for the parish. The Cathedral Center, adjacent to the church, was completed in August, 1992. During the Jubilee Year 2000, a renovation of the school and office facility was initiated, which was completed in 2002. In the year 2012, we saw the completion of the St. Kevin Perpetual Adoration Chapel, the renovation of the sanctuary, the new baptistery, and the new rectory for our priests. Christ the King School Mission Statement MISSION STATEMENT Christ the King School develops Character, Knowledge, and Spirit in its students and community by living the Catholic faith, through sharing the sacraments, promoting academic excellence, and engaging in service. STATEMENT OF VALUES The faculty and staff of Christ the King School are dedicated to helping students achieve individual growth while also developing a sense of responsibility to and concern for the community as a whole. Our goals fall into three key categories: character, knowledge, and spirit. Character • To guide students to high standards of integrity, honesty, respect, and reliability through the continuous modeling of appropriate conduct. • To encourage both leadership and cooperation throughout our academic community by giving opportunities in all facets of school life for initiative, responsibility, kindness, courtesy, tact, and self-control. • To imbue our students with a sense of gratitude and humility for the blessings bestowed upon them and a willingness to help ameliorate the suffering of others. Knowledge • To nourish the desire for intellectual pursuit with a curriculum that challenges students to perform at their highest potential. • To create an environment of intellectual collegiality among faculty, parents, and students that facilitates creative, thoughtful, and innovative academic work. • To encourage the highest degree of participation from students, parents, faculty, and staff in creating an environment that strengthens habits of industry arid thoroughness in the pursuit of intellectual goals. Spirit • To demonstrate the importance of a belief in God as revealed in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ under the auspices of the Catholic Church. • To instill, through example in our daily activities, an attitude of Christ—like behavior (for example, tolerance, sympathy, and forgiveness) for each other and for the larger community we inhabit. • To provide an opportunity to actively integrate one’s faith with education and community service to strive for a lifetime commitment to building a society in which all members grow and contribute.
