The Winnipeg Jets defenceman is logging heavy minutes on a winning NHL squad with a legitimate shot at a protracted post-season, his numbers are good and he's got the adulation of his teammates and the Jets coaching sta. The 29-year-old who was born in Houston but raised in Calgary has embraced the challenge of an elevated role with a Stanley Cup contender. PreviousArticle NextArticle "Very high (contentment level). Life is good right now," Myers said recently. "We have such a great group of guys, and the last few years we’ve really built something special in the dressing room. That’s one of those intangibles that’s so important, and it’s very exciting as a player for me to be a part of this. "Growing up in Western Canada, not that far from home, my wife (Michela) did, too, so she feels right at home here in Winnipeg. It's a great community for our family to be a part of an atmosphere like this. The thought of having a chance to win here is something that’s extremely special." Now, the toddler has some health challenges, and the Myers family works closely with the Movement Centre of Manitoba, an organization that helps improve the physical health of kids and adults with physical disabilities. "We’re very fortunate and very excited that he’s doing as well as he is. There’s things we have to deal with, but on the grand scheme of things it’s nothing that we think about too often. And for as happy a little boy as he is, it makes us happy," said Myers. "It seems like we have somebody out from either side of the family at least once a month throughout the season. It’s a big help for my wife. It’s always nice to have family in town and they get a chance to see their grandson and spend time with him and enjoy him." Back at work, Myers is deeply rooted in a comfort zone late in his 10th NHL campaign. He was the most conspicuous player Monday night at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, and his towering 6-8, 230-pound presence had little to do with it. He scored the game-winning goal, a seeing-eye shot that found the far top corner behind Los Angeles goalie Jack Campbell late in the second period to spark the Jets to a 3-2 victory over the Kings. The laser was one of four drives he directed at Campbell. He moved the puck uidly out of harm's way and attened forward Alex Iafallo early in the period with bodycheck near the wall. There's an argument to be made Myers is at his most complete since his arrival in Winnipeg in early 2014 — just when the Jets, without the services of Dustin Byfuglien and Josh Morrissey, need it most. Neither player is on the team's current three-game southern road trip, although Jets head coach Paul Maurice said late last week Byfuglien (lower body) and Morrissey (upper body) could return before the regular season ends during the rst week of April. "Tyler, on a minutes basis, has taken over the role of shutting down the other team when he's out with Kulikov. Tyler has been so critical all year in that he does all things well, kills penalties, works the power-play unit and plays against the other teams' best. That's a big job to ask of anybody. But he's shown he's clearly capable of doing it," said Maurice. "He's an elite defenceman in the NHL, but quietly so. "He does all the small things but is capable of expanding his role. If you need oence he gets up the ice and creates it. He's an incredibly eective penalty killer just on size and reach alone. He wants more minutes, and his game doesn't drop o if they go up." Signing Dano could be indicator BY KEN WIEBE, WINNIPEG SUN There are still several moving parts and a few issues left to uncover or resolve, but the expansion plans for the Winnipeg Jets are coming into focus. While it's still unclear whether the Jets asked veteran defenceman Toby Enstrom to waive his no-movement clause before Monday's deadline, you'd have to think the conversation took place. When Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was asked directly about the topic of no-movement clauses at his year-end address, he said all options would be explored. Officially, the Jets won't be commenting on the process until after the protected lists are revealed on Sunday morning. Based on experience, one shouldn't expect too much detail to be given, even after the expansion draft picks are made public. It's a sensitive subject and one of the biggest reasons the NHL GM's didn't want the lists to be made public. Yes, it's possible the Jets could buy out the final year of Enstrom's $5.75 million contract, but that appears to be the most unlikely result. The Jets haven't bought out a player since the franchise relocated and it's hard to imagine Enstrom would be the first, especially since they still value his services when healthy. Buying him out would be both a costly proposition and leave a void on the left side of the defence depth chart.

Mr. Franson is a right-handed defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization (the "Club" or the "Leafs").1 Mr. Franson signed a three year entry level Standard Player Contract (SPC) in 2006 with the Nashville Predators ("Nashville"), however that contract was put on hold until 2007 as he returned to junior hockey.2 Mr. Franson re-signed with the predators before being traded to the Leafs in 2011.3 Mr. Franson was 19 years of age on September 15, 2006, and has acquired more than four years of professional playing experience. Since a 10-game win streak ended, Eichel has fielded questions about the team's continued defensive lapses and a number of epic meltdowns. In addition, he has had to try to explain the Sabres' inability to win consecutive games since Dec. 13. The responsibility of leading a young team or answering post-game questions during trying times can wear on the NHL's most experienced players, yet Eichel has continued to flourish on the ice. "He’s a special player, a special person," Sabres defenseman Zach Bogosian, an alternate captain, said following practice Wednesday. "He’s done a lot of really good things for this city and this organization. People tend to forget he’s only 22. He’s got a lot on his plate, a lot on his shoulders for a young guy. He’s handled it well. I think at times it’s been tough, but he brings his play every night – his effort, his attitude. He really wants to win." The hypothesis is that NHL players have their peak performance at age 27, which indicates that long-term contracts that exceed this age create inefficiency. The study will examine player productivity by taking 30 NHL players and evaluating their performance in the years leading up to age 27 as well as years that follow. Performance measures include average point production and the highest average ice-time per game. The study will also use two OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) regressions where the dependent variables are average time on ice per game and capital hit, both good indicators of how valuable a player is to his team, as well as several statistical independent variables such as points, games played and most importantly age. By gaining knowledge of peak performance, NHL organizations could better manage their teams by limiting long-term contracts to players and as a result lessen the inefficiency that exists in the market.     PREGAME NOTES 2019 TIM HORTONS NHL HERITAGE CLASSIC WINNIPEG JETS vs. CALGARY FLAMES MOSAIC STADIUM, REGINA, SASK. – OCT. 26, 2019 JETS, FLAMES FACE OFF OUTDOORS The Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames face off tonight in the 2019 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic (10 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CST, CBC, SN1, CITY, TVAS2, NBCSN) – the League’s 28th regular-season outdoor game and fifth in the Heritage Classic series. The Jets and Flames each have participated in one prior outdoor game, both under the Heritage Classic umbrella. Winnipeg played host to the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Investors Group Field, falling 3-0 to the Edmonton Oilers. Nine Jets players who appeared in that game remain with the team: Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Connor Hellebuyck, Patrik Laine, Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey, Mathieu Perreault, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. Current Calgary goaltender Cam Talbot started for Edmonton in that contest, stopping all 31 shots he faced for the third shutout in outdoor NHL game history. Current Jets forward Mark Letestu scored the winning goal (while shorthanded), as a member of the Oilers. And current Flames forward Milan Lucic recorded two penalty minutes for Edmonton. Calgary served as hosts for the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-0. Two players who appeared in that game remain with the Flames: Mikael Backlund and Mark Giordano. Overall, the Jets feature 11 players who have participated in a prior outdoor NHL game (minimum: 1 GP in 2019-20), while the Flames have four. Talbot leads that group with four such appearances, though he served as a backup goaltender for three of them (2014 SS w/ NYR [2 GP], 2019 SS w/ PHI).
