ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Holder of Safe Management of Production Certificate - September 2020 Movie Magic Scheduling, Final Draft, Final Cut, Photoshop James has worked on a wide range of productions including; features, commercials, stop motion, CGI, and puppetry shoots. This variety has given him the experience to develop many different ways of working, to fully appreciate the specific needs and requirements that an individual project may have. He has a keen technical awareness for complex CG crossover shoots and projects with complex and demanding technical features.

“James and I had to plan and execute a 6 week main unit shoot, with a parallel 3 week second unit shoot in Johor Baru, Malaysia, for the final 90-minute block of the 2019 Strike Back Season.

That’s 90 minutes moving an ensemble cast of 5, a guest cast of 15, and often an extras list of between 25 to 75, through dense tropical jungle, ramshackle shanty towns with low security and high hazard ratios, hectic urban spaces with barely any time to secure permits and minimal scouting opportunities. We do multiple vehicle stunts with pyrotechnics, we have machine guns roaring with massive muzzle flashes and spinning red hot shells on every other scene. We drop our cast on lines down 100 foot wells, shoot on top of 60 story sky scrapers, and blow up more buildings, sheds and silos in one block than most action TV does in 10 seasons.

James and I had never worked together before. And together we put one foot in front of the other, never looked down and made one of the best Season Finale's the show has ever had. I could not have got even close without the remarkably sophisticated skills and cool professionalism of James Emmott.

James handles pressure with an intuitive skill that means he is calm and smart, thinking on the hoof to solve the unsolvable day-by-day, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute. He has the respect of the crew and the cast because he is extremely good at his job, but never announces the fact. James wins the trust of those around him by quietly and good humoredly getting on with it and consistently making the right decisions.

He is sensitive to the stresses and strains put on those around him, both in front of the camera and behind it. So he listens to the issues and responds with an understanding of not just what the production needs to happen but also he takes in to account how the team works, and how the team works the best. We came in on schedule. Never dropped a scene. I recommend him as one of the UK's top FIRST AD’s.” Director, Bill Eagles

James Emmott was our 1st Ad on the hardest block that we recently shot for Strike Back. Working brilliantly with Director Bill Eagles, James was efficient, firm, personable and confident. Ensuring that communication was clear (we were also running a full time 2nd Unit, an additional action unit and drone shots) he worked well with the Malaysian crew in a challenging environment - and quite simply made a very ambitious script possible and safe. I have no hesitation in recommending him.” Richard Burrell, Executive Producer, Strike Back 7

“James is a 1st AD that I would recommend with good scheduling skills and running a very tight floor. He is also production friendly in terms of production plans relating to costs and has a good nature with the crew.” Dan Toland, Line Producer, Strike Back 7

“We were grateful to have James on board as First A.D (and plates director) for our show. Floogals is a complex animated series made up of back plates needing a combination of skills from this role. We have actors including children needing scheduling and direction, puppeteering of live action props for CGI character interaction, location filming needing a ridiculous amount achieved in very short window all of which is required in the context of sometime hasty and sparse storyboards to guide. A background in stop frame has hugely helped as his sense of scale/lenses/line crossing etc. is fully evolved. James’s keen storytelling and cutting/edit sense has been invaluable in achieving what we ask of him but equally his warm presence and sense of humour in the face of tricky schedules has been a real boost for an often stretched crew and I’d happily recommend him without hesitation.” Ceri Barnes, Executive Producer, Floogals 1 & 2

“I can highly recommend James as a 1st AD. He is very proactive and methodical in the planning and setting up of the shoot. He found and trained up an excellent team of Ad’s and handled the crew with respect and care whilst also adhering to a tight and demanding schedule. He’s got a wicked sense of humour, which helps under pressure and there is a worldly-wise head on those young shoulders, don’t be fooled by those grey hairs! If you are looking for a well organised, happy and efficient team James is your man!” Simon Quinn, Animation Producer, Isle of Dogs
