Characters used in the taxonomy of the genus Lepidonella Yosii, 1960 (Collembola: Paronellidae) are listed and discussed. Several new ones are introduced. An overview of pseudopore patterns across Collembola is presented, with several new locations of these structures across Entomobryomorpha. Their interest at different taxonomic level is under- lined. The genus Lepidonella is redefined. The American species L. marimuti Soto Adames & Bellini, 2015 is placed in incertae sedis among Lepidonella. Lepidonella species of the world are listed with synonymies and combinations. The Malaysian troglobitic species Pseudoparonella doveri Carpenter, 1933 is redescribed in detail, with emphasis on its pattern of antennal chaetae, and transferred to the genus Lepidonella. Its close similarity with L. lecongkieti Deharveng & Bedos, 1995 from southwestern Vietnam caves is underlined. This disjunct distribution is briefly discussed. Résumé. Revue du genre Lepidonella Yosii (Collembola : Paronellidae) : caractères, liste critique des espèces du monde et ré-assignation de Pseudoparonella doveri Carpenter. Les caractères utilisés dans la taxonomie du genre Lepidonella Yosii, 1960 (Collembola : Paronellidae) sont répertoriés et discutés. Plusieurs nouveaux caractères sont décrits. Une synthèse des patrons de distribution des pseudopores dans la classe des Collemboles est présentée, avec la mise en évidence de nouvelles localisations de ces structures au sein des Entomobryomorpha. Leur intérêt à différents niveaux taxonomiques est souligné. Le genre Lepidonella est redéfini. L’espèce américaine L. marimuti Soto Adames & Bellini, 2015 est placée en incertae sedis au sein du genre Lepidonella. Les espèces de Lepidonella du monde sont listées avec synonymies et combinaisons. L’espèce troglobie de Malaisie Pseudoparonella doveri Carpenter, 1933 est redécrite en détail, en insistant sur son patron de soies antennaires, et transférée dans le genre Lepidonella. Son étroite similarité avec L. lecongkieti Deharveng & Bedos, 1995 des grottes du sud-ouest du Vietnam est soulignée. Cette distribution disjointe est brièvement commentée. More than 9,000 species have been described worldwide, but knowledge about their diversity and distribution remains far from complete. Reports of springtail diversity in the Antilles are uneven, some islands are relatively well known, whereas others have not been explored at all. The fauna of Puerto Rico is reasonably well known, but many recent reports are scattered in published literature and unpublished theses. New information Here, we present a summary of all springtail species identified from the Bank of Puerto Rico, including unpublished records. As a result, we list 146 species including 43 unnamed, included in 65 genera and 17 families. Most species, 33, belong to Entomobryidae, but this possibly reflects the taxonomic expertise of specialists working in Puerto Rico rather than a real bias in the distribution of higher taxa in the islands.

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The taxonomic status of the four New World species of Salina MacGillivray with bidentate mucro is uncertain. The first two species to be described, S. bidentata (Handschin) and S. wolcotti Folsom, are so poorly described by modern standards that it is unclear if they represent distinct species or the same, colour-pattern variable forms. This contribution presents additions to the description of S. beta Christiansen & Bellinger based on the holotype, a redescription of S. bidentata and S. wolcotti based on freshly collected material from Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Florida, USA, and description of a new species, S. thibaudi, from Costa Rica and Guadaloupe. Based on analysis of chaetotaxic patterns it is concluded that S. bidentata and S. wolcotti are distinct species, although it remains unclear if S. ventricolor Gruia, from Cuba is distinct from S. wolcotti. The discovery in Costa Rica and Guadaloupe of S. thibaudi, showing a distinct chaetotaxy, but with colour pattern identical to that illustrated in the original description of S. wolcotti, suggests that records of S. wolcotti outside Puerto Rico require verification. A key for the identification of all species of Salina reported from the Americas is provided.

Despite decades of research on Wolbachia’s global frequency, there are many arthropod families and geographic regions that have not been tested for Wolbachia. Here, arthropods were collected on the Vanderbilt University campus in Nashville, Tennessee, where Wolbachia frequency has not been previously studied. The dataset consists of 220 samples spanning 34 unique arthropod families collected on the Vanderbilt University campus. Gene sequence data have generally confirmed existing high-level taxonomy, but complicated species-level taxonomy by uncovering extensive cryptic diversity. Several commonly recorded European Collembola ‘species’ have proved to be complexes of closely related taxa, reducing the value of many older (pre-1990) records to near-zero. It seems likely that many more cryptic species of Collembola remain to be uncovered, even in well studied areas in Europe. The inevitable proliferation of genetically defined ‘species’ will be awkward to integrate into existing databases, which are based on morphospecies. Eventually the results will transform our understanding of Collembola biodiversity, since molecular data contain greatly more information, notably estimates of divergence times. In ancient and relatively pristine ecosystems (e.g. Antarctica, oceanic islands) genetic data can be used to show both extreme isolation of endemics (pre-dating ice ages) and the arrival of European/North American invasives.
