REPORTS OF ICDT ON THE OIC FAIRS AND EXHIBITIONS SUBMITTED BY THE ISLAMIC CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF TRADE TO THE 30TH SESSION OF THE FOLLOW-UP COMMITTEE OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE FOR ECONOMIC AND COMMERCIAL CO-OPERATION OF THE OIC (COMCEC) Ankara – Republic of Turkey 7-8 May 2014 1 REPORT OF THE OIC-CHINA EXPO AND ECONOMIC & TRADE FORUM 2013 Yinchuan-Autonomous Province of Ningxia Hui- People’s Republic of China, 15-19 September 2013 Within the framework of actions aiming at strengthening the economic and trade relations between the Members States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Muslim minorities of non- Member States, the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade and the Expo Bureau of Ningxia Hui held under the auspices of the Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Province, the 1st OIC-China Expo and the Economic and Trade Forum on 15 to 19 September 2013 in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Province, People's Republic of China. The aim of this event was to boost economic and trade relations between the OIC and China, especially between China and the Arab countries in the fields of energy, agriculture, and in particular Halal food products, finance and investment, infrastructure, tourism, mining and new information and communication technologies (NICTs). This event was attended by 67 countries and 1,200 companies and 46 chambers of commerce and organizations in addition to 7300 participants. The OIC following Member States took part in this event: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Mali, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Turkey and Yemen. Moreover, the delegation from ICDT this event participated in the forum on investment and infrastructure financing and Cooperation Forum in agriculture and made presentations respectively on Public Private Partnership as a solution for financing infrastructure between China and the OIC countries and cooperation in trade and investment among the OIC countries and China. In conjunction with this event Dr. El Hassane HZAINE - Director General of ICDT held talks on 16th September 2013 with the Governor of the Autonomous Province of Ningxia Hui and seized this opportunity to congratulate the Governor for the success of this event and reiterated ICDT’s commitment to boost economic and trade relations between the Autonomous Province of Ningxia - Hui and the OIC countries by establishing a plan of action of joint activities. In this regard both parties agreed to hold a first coordination meeting in the near future in Casablanca. 2 REPORT OF THE 4th OIC WORLD BIZ 25-28 September 2013, Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia Within the framework of cooperation between the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade and Malaysia, ICDT and the Malaysian “OIC International Business Centre” organised in collaboration with the Arab League the 4th Edition of the “OIC Biz World” under the theme “Enhancing the borderless economy” held concomitantly with the 2nd OIC/Asia Forum from 25th to 28th September 2013 in Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia. These two events were inaugurated in the presence of the Malaysian Senior Government Authorities namely, their Excellencies YB Dato' Sri Mustapha Mohamed - Minister of Trade and Industry, YB Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Education, YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture and the Mayor of the city of Kuala Lumpur, His Excellency YBhg Datuk Seri Md Phesal. This meeting was also attended by Dr. El Hassane HZAINE - Director General of ICDT and Dato Raja Mohamad Abdullah, Manager of “OIC International Business Centre" as well as by the Representatives of universities and Islamic institutions and the tourism stakeholders and businessmen of Islamic Countries. The impact of this Forum, which included in its program the organization of an exhibition, a forum and several thematic conferences, was huge because it mobilized 30,000 visitors, 421 exhibiting companies and 55 countries, including 24 Member States of the OIC (Algeria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Yemen). The main recommendations of the 2nd Forum OIC/Asia, held on 25 and 26 September 2013 were as follows: To encourage direct contact between businessmen in order to increase the visibility of business opportunities To Solve in the short-term, problems related to transport and logistics; To promote cooperation and exchanges in the key sectors, namely tourism , Islamic Finance, Health, Buildings and Construction and Higher Education; To establish insurance financing mechanisms so as to support SMEs and projects. It should be noted that on the sidelines of these events the "Jewels of the Muslim World Award 2013" ceremony was organized to honor personalities who have contributed to the development and well-being of the Islamic Ummah. On this occasion, ten personalities of the Islamic World were awarded including His Excellency Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, former Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. 3 ICDT’s Activities on the sidelines of the 4th Edition of the "OIC World Biz": The Centre took the opportunity of its participation in the 4th Edition of the «OIC World Biz» to hold a meeting with the “World Islamic Economic Forum” represented by Ms. Mazwin Meor Ahmad to discuss preparations of the training seminar for the benefit of business women to be jointly organized by both institutions in Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco. It should be noted in this regard that Dr. HZAINE also held a meeting with the delegation of the Chamber of Commerce of the Turkish Cypriot State to discuss ways and means to strengthen cooperation among them in the areas of common interest. 4 REPORT OF THE 14th TRADE FAIR OF THE OIC MEMBER STATES (TFOIC) Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran 28 October - 1st November 2013 In implementation of resolutions adopted by the 24th and 28th Ministerial Sessions of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation, of the OIC, held respectively in Istanbul in October 2008 and 2012 and the 39th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States held from 15th to 17th November 2012 in Djibouti, which welcomed the offer of the Islamic Republic of Iran to hold the 14th Trade Fair of Islamic Countries (TFOIC), the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) held in collaboration with “Iran International Exhibitions Co. (IIEC)” under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Iran the 14th OIC-EXPO, from 28th October to 1st November 2013 at the Permanent Exhibition Centre in Tehran under the theme “Islamic Unity: Sustainable economic development”. The Fair, Which lasted 5 days, was opened to the General Public and businessmen from 9.00 to 16.00. The following countries participated in this event: Islamic Republic of Afghanistan; Republic of Azerbaijan; People's Republic of Bangladesh; Republic of Benin ; State of the United Arab Emirates ; Republic of Indonesia; Republic of Iraq ; Republic of Guinea ; Malaysia ; Kingdom of Morocco ; Republic of Cameroon ; Republic of Mali ; Republic of Senegal ; Republic of Somalia; State of Kuwait; Republic of Lebanon; Islamic Republic of Pakistan ; Republic of Tajikistan; Republic of Turkey; Republic of Tunisia; Republic of Uganda; Sultanate of Oman ; Union of the Comoros Islamic Republic of Iran. 5 The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), Group of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) funded the participation of the following OIC Member States: Bangladesh, Benin, Senegal, Guinea, Cameroon, Mali, Tajikistan and Uganda. 1. Opening Ceremony of the Fair: The official inauguration of the exhibition took place on 28th October, 2013 at the Permanent Exhibition Centre in Tehran and was chaired by H.E Es’haq Jahangiri, 1st Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and H.E Mohamadou Doudou Lo, Representative of H.E the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), accompanied by their Excellencies: H.E Abdelawahab Matar, Minister of Commerce and Handicrafts of the Republic of Tunisia, the Minister of Commerce of the Republic of Somalia, the Deputy Minister of Commerce of the Republic of Iraq, Eng Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Mines of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. El Hassane HZAINE, Director General of ICDT, Dr Mohammed Nahavandian, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Representative of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) and their Excellencies some Ambassadors of the OIC countries accredited to Tehran and heads of the delegations of the participating States in this fair.
