Will the Minister of SHIPPING, ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the sectors of the Golden Quadrilateral project funded by the Union Government; (b) the sectors financed by the International Monetary Institutions and the total fund made available by the International Monetary Institutions for this purpose; (c) whether the targets in respect of the sectors which are financed by the International Monetary Institutions are proposed to be revised; (d) if so, the details thereof; and (e) the reaction of the International Monetary Institutions in this regard? Answer THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SHIPPING, ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS(SHRI K. H. MUNIYAPPA) (a) The sub-projects on Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) funded by the Government (out of cess allocation and market borrowings by NHAI) are as per the Statement at Annexure − I. (b) The list of the sub-projects on GQ being executed with external assistance is enclosed as Annexure II. The details of loan executed with these institutions are as per Annexure − III. (c) and (d) Yes Sir. The loan closure for Western Transport Corridor (four laning of Tumkur − Haveri Section of NH-4) is December, 2005 which is proposed to be extended as the work is likely to be completed by June, 2006. The completion target is proposed to be revised due to delay in land acquisition, utility shifting, poor management and cash flow problems of some of the Contractors. 5. ADB has desired to take appropriate action against defaulting contractors as per contract agreement.     Government of India Ministry of Earth Sciences India Meteorological Department PRESS RELEASE - 5 Time of issue: 1400 hours IST Dated: 26-11-2020 Sub: Cyclonic Storm “NIVAR” over southwest Bay of Bengal Yesterday’s very severe cyclonic storm over southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) moved northwestwards and crossed Tamilnadu and Puducherry coasts near Puducherry (near latitude 12.1°N and longitude 79.9°E) during 2330 IST of 25th to 0230 IST of 26th November as a very severe cyclonic storm with an estimated wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph. Continuing to move northwestwards, it weakened into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over north coastal Tamilnadu in the early morning hours (0230 hrs IST) and further into a cyclonic storm in the morning (0830 hrs IST) of today, the 26th November, 2020. It lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 26th November, 2020 over the same region near Lat. 12.6°N and Long 79.4°E, about 85 km north-northwest of Puducherry and about 95 km west-southwest of Chennai. The Cyclonic Storm „NIVAR‟ would continue to move northwestwards and weaken further into a Deep Depression during next 06 hours and into a depression by subsequent 06 hours.     Arcot is a town and urban area of Ranipet district in the state of Tamil Nadu , India. Located on the southern banks of Palar River , the city straddles a trade route between Chennai and Bangalore or Salem , between the Mysore Ghat and the Javadi Hills (Javvadhu malai). As of 2011, the city had a population 55,955. The sweet makkan peda is a local speciality while Arcot biryani , a rice-based traditional food, is also served here. Arcot Mudaliars and Muslims are the dominant communities followed by Naidus and Vanniyars in Arcot town. Etymology Its name is commonly believed to have been derived from the Tamil words aaru (River) + kaadu (forest). However, arkaadu meant 'a forest of fig trees'. Jainism was flourishing in this part of Tamil Land who were otherwise known as Arugar most probably corrupted form of Arhants or the perfected souls. The word Arugar is found in many ancient literary works and places dominant with Arugars were related to them viz Arakonam, Arumbakkam, Aruvur, etc. Not far away from present day Arcot (Anglicized form of Aarkaadu) there is a place called Arungundram. Hence Arcot or Aarkaadu would have derived its name from Arugarkaadu. History The town's strategic location has led to it being repeatedly contested and prompted the construction of a formidable fortress. The Nawabdom of the Carnatic was established by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb , who in 1692 appointed Zulfiqar Ali Khan as the first Nawab of the Carnatic . In 1740, the Maratha forces came down upon Arcot. They attacked the Nawab, Dost Ali in the pass of Damalcherry.
