Between the two of us we have nine children: Chris Southerland, Julie Crews, David Woolley, Marla Miller, Shawn Knight, Jessica Garber, Julie Beigley, Lacey Griffis, StephanieGriffis, and 17 beautiful grandchildren.

I am a firm believer in being an active part of your community. It is fulfilling to continually give back and invest in future generations. It is my hope that I will have made a lasting impression on my community for decades to come. I have had the privilege of teaching at Lake Butler Middle School for 16 years as the computer, business, and yearbook instructor. Throughout my time at LBMS I have been blessed to teach your children and grandchildren. It is truly an honor to have a hand in the shaping of young lives in our community. Deputy Secretary of DOC Chris Southerland, Nancy Griffis and Marvin “Homeboy” Griffis I enjoy serving as my school’s Union Representative for the teacher’s at LBMS. Being a liaison between the teachers and the school board, I am experienced in representing the needs and the voices of the multitude. Being a devout Christian, I am a proud member of the Sanderson Christian Revival Center. In being a member at my church, I have the wonderful ministry opportunity to pour into the lives of adults by leading Sunday school classes each week. I have also served as our church’s treasurer and secretary since 2005.

If elected to serve as your county commissioner my duties would require me to delegate and oversee the budget, funding, and use of our community’s revenue. I hope that my experience in managing finances will reaffirm you of my qualifications and skills. During my two years serving as the treasurer for the Santa Fe College Student Government I oversaw financial standings and executed my duties carefully and accurately handling a budget of over $500,000. I have served as the treasurer and secretary of my local church for the past decade. I love keeping track of our finances through savings and investments to better utilize our money for a greater purpose. -

It is with the deepest sincerity that I thank you for your time and I ask that you would pray that our Lord would guide you in making the best decision for our community. I hope that you consider my candidacy when you mark your ballot on August 26th. Warmly, Nancy Griffis Candidate County Commissioner, District 2 (Raiford) Pd. Pol. It was just tough.” Wight was rewarded with the sight of that sunrise, as well as the accomplishment of making it to the top. However, climbers don’t spend much time on the peak once they get there. “Once you make it, you’re really kind of out of it,” Wight said, adding, “You definitely don’t jump up and down. You don’t exert yourself that much because you’re already so whipped, and the air is so thin.” Once on the summit, Wight took his gloves off and tried to break up the ice his water had become so he could drink something. “My hands have never been that cold in my life,” he said. From the peak, climbers make a quick descent. Wight said it took four to four and a half hours to get back to the camp at 15,500 feet. The group continued to hike 7 miles to reach a low camp. On the seventh day, the group finished the expedition with a hike of more than 11 miles. During their time on the mountain, Wight and his group members had meals prepared for them by accompanying porters, who would set up camps and serve the meals there. After three or four days of that food, though, Wight’s stomach wasn’t feeling so hot. He said the same held true for the other climbers. “We weren’t used to the food,” Wight said. “It was really hard to eat. They’d bring you the same stuff. You’d try your best to eat it.” At the end of the climb, well- known junk food seemed like a grand feast. “Once we got off the mountain 2014 2014 2014 2014 IN that seventh day and got down $ $ $ $ to the main check-in point, there FOCUS 13,988 F-150 19,990 FUSION 18,795 F-250 10,000 DISCOUNTS were actually little convenience stores down there,” Wight *WITH APPROVED CREDIT, $2,661 DUE AT SIGNING, 36 MONTH LEASE, NO SECURITY DEPOSIT. said. “We didn’t expect to see anything we knew, but they had Pringles, Kit-Kats, Snickers, Cokes and Nehi orange drinks. We devoured them.” Though she didn’t accompany him on the climb due to its expense—approximately $4,000 for the guided hike and the flight—Wight’s daughter Christine is usually a constant companion when attempting to reach a high point. “The main reason I do it is to spend time with my daughter, make memories with her and just see the country,” Wight said. Wight and his daughter are attempting to reach the high points of each of the 50 states, adding that no father-daughter team has ever accomplished the feat, though several are currently trying. The U.S. high-points goal began with an unsuccessful attempt to reach the 11,239- foot summit of Oregon’s Mount Hood.
