    Tirupati may run out of water in a month The Hindu, New Delhi, Dated : July 15, 2019 Tirumala-Tirupati is in for a severe shock, as the temple city will run out of water in a month, if the monsoon continues to remain elusive. At present, the denizens receive water in their taps once in three days. With Kalyani dam reaching the dead storage level, the city’s western parts are also supplied the Telugu Ganga water, which is made available for the eastern and southern parts, as well. Dwindling fast Water is currently drawn from the dead storage in Kandaleru reservoir (Nellore district) and pumped into Kailasagiri storage tank near Srikalahasti, from where it is pumped to Tirupati. There is an off-take point near Gudur from where water is also shared to Gudur town, making things worse for Tirupati. Since the Gudur off-take point is nearly 80 km away, laying a full-fledged pipeline to Kailasagiri not only comes at an exorbitant cost, but also does not serve the immediate purpose. Apart from the requirements of the residents, it is the steady flow of pilgrims that necessitates special attention on dedicated water supply to the city. Water storage in projects atop Tirumala hills is also dwindling fast, leaving no option but to pump water from downhill. The demand for allocation of Srisailam water exclusively for Tirupati, as a special case, has been in the air for quite some time, but never taken forward. Unless the government takes a serious view of the situation, Tirupati is likely to be in deep trouble.

  • Lord Venkateswara Temple
    The Eastern Ghats form a major hill range in Andhra Pradesh. The world famous temple town of Tirumala, with Tirupati at the foothills, lies amidst the thickly-wooded hills in Chittoor District. Chittoor District, lying on the banks of Ponnai river at the southernmost part of Andhra Pradesh, is bounded by Anantapur District on the northwest, Kadapa District on the north,Nellore District on the northeast, Vellore & Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu state on the south, and Karnataka state on the southwest. It is home to more than a dozen ancient temples, a pleasant hill resort in Horsely Hills, sacred waterfalls, grand forts, geological wonders, exciting wild life sanctuaries and salubrious parks. Chittoor District has a tropical climate, with temperatures ranging between 30°C and 43°C in summer and between 21°C and 29°C in winter. The major places of interest are Madanapalle, Srikalahasthi and Tirupati. The hills in Chittoor District resemble a snake, with Tirumala forming the hood. Lord Venkateswara, also known as the 'Lord of the Seven Hills' or 'Balaji', is considered the 'Kaliyuga' incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Millions of pilgrims visit the Balaji temple every day. The main temple is the quintessence of ancient Indian temple architecture. The'Vimana' over the sanctum sanctorumas also the 'Dhwajasthambam' (flagpost) are gold plated and have been crafted meticulously. Beholding Lord Venkateswara is proven to be a transformative experience. Apart from the bliss of adarshan of Lord Venkateswara, one can enjoy the sight of several natural and manmade attractions nearby. Spl Task Force to check Red Sander smuggling gets CM’s nod Hyderabad, June 13: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has approved the constitution of a special task force with forest and police personnel to have an effective monitoring and to curb smuggling of Red Sanders in Kadapa, Chittoor and Nellore Districts. The Chief Minister directed the officials to take stringent action against the accused with coordinate efforts. The task force will be headed by Additional SP of Police assisted by one DSP, two Circle Inspectors, 4 Sis from the police side. One Asst. Conservator, two forest range officers, four Forest Section Officers from the forest side will assist the task force with one armed platoon at its disposal. The Headquarters of the Additional SP, Task Force will be at Tirupati and the area of his jurisdiction will be Kadapa, Chittoor and Nellore Districts. Nineteen samples were collected from different locations of Tirupati rural and urban areas and analyzed for physico- chemical parameters such as pH, turbidity, Chloride, Electrical conductivity, total hardness, calcium, and Iron. The values of physico-chemical parameters were compared with the world health organization (WHO) water quality standards. The geo- chemical characteristics of ground water samples are correlated with geological, pedological and topological conditions which has a direct bearing upon the accumulation of salts in the study area and degree of treatment before consumption and prevention steps to be taken from contamination.
