Circular-Iscbc-2015.Pdf Venue and About ISCB Invitation Dear Colleague, Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists announces its 21 st International Conference on “CURRENT TRENDS IN DRUG DISCOVERY AND DEVELOPMENTS ” to be held at Central Drug Research Institute , Lucknow , 25 th - 28 th February, 2015 . Host Institution Central Drug Research Institute is one of the first and few laboratories that were established in India right after its independence. CDRI is among the thirty eight laboratories that are functioning under the aegis of the council of scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India headed by the Prime Minister of the nation as its president. CDRI was formally inaugurated on 17th Feb 1951 by the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. CDRI is considered to be a pioneer research organization in the field of biomedical research where all the infrastructure and expertise are available to develop a drug right from its concept to market. The very latest techniques and methodologies are employed for developing drugs, diagnostics and vaccines to combat diseases prevalent among mankind in general and Indian population in particular. CDRI is a multidisciplinary research laboratory consisting of scientific personnel of various areas of biomedical sciences. For administrative and scientific purposes the Institute's manpower has been grouped into 17 R & D divisions and few divisions providing technical and scientific support. Two data centers and one field station located outside CDRI are providing operational support. 105 Chapter-5 L U C K N 0 W A Study in Resort Personality Physical Setting : The cultural city of Lucknow - on - Gomati is a paramount urban agglomeration in the otherwise economically depressed rural Awadh. Lucknow »was founded on the mound, strategically located on the southern banks of the river Gomati. River frontages are not mere localizable attractions for city facades but they also have a secret hand in determining the morphological aspects of townships particularly in their early stages of development. It is situated at 26*^52' N Latitude and 80^ 56'E longitude. Presently, Lucknow dominates as the capital of Uttar Pradesh. This city, of about over one and half million people ranks among the ten big metropolis of India. Lie of the Land : Considering the notoriety of the Gomati for frequent rising in spates, the high mound-popularly known as the Lakshman Tila- was an ideal location for a human settlement, insuring safety and security against flood hazards. The rest of the land undulates very gradually, almost imperceptibly, towards the south and south east. INTRODUCTION 1 ______________________________________________________________________________________ 1.1 Introduction Urbanisation and economic development have caused rapid city expansion in size and structure. The urban structure is becoming increasingly complex, heterogeneous and irregular in shape. The development spreads over to the peri-urban areas resulting in degradation of natural and rural land over time. This process will continue further, if remain unchecked through proper planning measures. This will adversely impact the quality of life of both urban and peri-urban dwellers. Although the urban sprawl in a developing city cannot be stopped, however; a remedy to this issue can be devised through strict zoning regulations based on land suitability and carrying capacity, which allows land use to be channelled towards more sustainable uses. In this context, research study entitled Dynamics of Peri-Urban Areas: Prospects and Challenges of Sustainable Development - A case study of Peri-Urban area of Lucknow is undertaken and peri-urban areas are illustrated at Map 1. Lucknow has been divided into two parts based on growing urbanisation i.e. old Lucknow and New Lucknow. The peri-urban area denote to a grey area which is neither entirely urban nor purely rural in the traditional sense. Sometimes, Peri-urban area is Photo 1: A bird’s eye view of Central area of Lucknow described as physically defined transitional area bordering a city, characterised with mix of both rural and urban form and functions. Peri-urban areas are ‘those areas surrounding the cities within a daily commuting reach of the city core. In some parts of Asia, these regions can stretch for up to thirty kilometres away from city core’.

26 GOOD TO GO 48 HOURS 27 of shammi kebab (spiced lamb skewers) and mutton in a yogurt-rich gravy. On the way back to your hotel, stop at Laddoo Chanakya (3 Shyam Awadh Bazaar) for a no-frills, very local dessert of kesar kulfi, or saffron-flavored Indian “ice cream,” served in leaf bowls. Wind down with a nightcap at the Renaissance Ho- tel’s Sky Bar—a rare rooftop venue that stays open beyond 10 p.m. and looks out onto twin- kling city lights across an infinity pool. DAY TWO Morning: Rise early to get the best light at the 18th-century Bara Imambara. The defining feature of Lucknow’s skyline is a triumph of turrets and cupolas, fusing Indian and Persian architectural styles. Hired guides will tell you that the fourth Nawab of Lucknow, Asaf-ud -Daula, built the sepia-colored complex as a place of congregation and mourning for the city’s Shia Muslims. A rather spooky labyrinth of dark, narrow tunnels runs through the once the seat of British colonial rule over the walls on the upper level, leading ultimately surrounding Awadh region. Besieged for six to the rooftop.
