2008-06-10 15:19 CEST Nu är line-upen klar för Accelerator! De tre sista artisterna är nu klara för Accelerator på Munchenbryggeriet 24-25 juni! Johnny Flynn (tisdag) Wild Beasts (tisdag) Neon Neon (onsdag) Johnny Flynn (UK) Senaste namnet i det gäng sympatiska brittiska artister som har fått epitetet "new folk" är London-mannen Johnny Flynn. Flynn, som förövrigt även är en skolad skådespelare som har spelat Shakespeare på Old Vic, gör en djupdykning i engelsk folkmusik och amerikansk blues på debuten "A Larum" och skivan har hyllats av en enig kritikerkår. Med banjo, ukulele och munspel skapar Flynn och bandet The Sussex Wit en imponerande och förtrollande debutskiva, som är vemodig, men ändå melodisk och aldrig förirrar sig från sina rötter. Ryktet säger att mr Flynn ska vara ännu bättre live, och redan den 24 juni får vi veta om detta stämmer! Wild Beasts (UK) Britterna i Wild Beasts har rötterna i Kendal utanför Leeds, som tidigare varit mest känt för sina mintkakor och att tre fjärdedelar av British Sea Power kommer därifrån. I juni släpper de sin debutskiva "Limbo, Pinto" på klassiska Domino Records, ett album som är inspelat i Gula Studion i Malmö med vår egen popproducent Tore Johansson. Musiken är som oftast nuförtiden snårigt svår att definiera. Wild Beasts bryr sig inte om att vara en del av det moderna, en del av renässansen, ha baggy eller tajta brallor, vara en del av en scen. De bara är. Bandet kan svänga ihop indiepop, disco och vals utan att det låter det minsta konstlat och mitt i musiken svävar sångaren Hayden Thorpes distinkta röst, kanske den mest unika rösten sedan Anthony Hegarty dök upp på musikscenen. Neon Neon (US/UK) På papperet är samarbetet mellan Gruff Rhys från Super Furry Animals och amerikanske ljudmakaren Boom Bip ett riktigt skumt kompanjonskap. Särskilt när albumet som duon ger ut är en konceptskiva om bilmagnaten John DeLorean (inte minst känd genom bilen i Tillbaka till Framtiden!). Men ack så fel man kan ha. "Stainless Style" är, med gäster som Cate Le Bon, Fatlip, Spank Rock och Yo Majesty, en härlig pastisch, ett soundtrack till en futuristisk 80-talsmusikal. Electro, framtidsprogg, funk, disco och schlager blir i händerna på Rhys och Boom Bip till en skönt vansinnig mix. BILJETTER 2-dagarsbiljetten kostar 680 kr + 20 kr serviceavgift. Conclusion: Popular Music, Aesthetic Value, and Materiality
CONCLUSION: POPULAR MUSIC, AESTHETIC VALUE, AND MATERIALITY Popular music has been accused of being formulaic, homogeneous, man- ufactured, trite, vulgar, trivial, ephemeral, and so on. These condemna- tions have roots in aspects of the Western aesthetic tradition, especially its modernist and expressivist branches, according to which great art innovates, breaks and re-makes the rules, expresses the artist’s personal vision or unique emotions, or all these. Popular music has its defenders. But they have tended to appeal to the same inherited aesthetic criteria, defending some branches of popular music at the expense of others― valorising its artistic, expressive, innovative, or authentic branches against mere ‘pop’. These evaluations are problematic, because they presuppose all along a set of criteria that are slanted against the popular fi eld. We therefore need new frameworks for the evaluation of popular music. These frameworks need to enable us to evaluate pieces of popular music by the standards proper to this particular cultural form―to judge how well these pieces work as popular music, not how successfully they rise above the popular condition. To devise such frameworks we need an account of popular music’s standard features and of the further organising qualities and typical val- ues to which these features give rise. Popular music normally has four layers of sound―melody, chords, bass, and percussion―and each layer is normally made up of repetitions of short elements, these repeti- tions being aligned temporally with one another, with whole sections of repeated material then being repeated in turn to constitute song sections. © The Author(s) 2016 249 A.
