Dear Multnomah County Voter: This Voters’ Pamphlet is for the November 6, 2018 General Election and is being mailed to residential households participating in this election. Here are a few things you should know: • You can view your registration status at www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote. There you can check or update your voter registration or track your ballot. The voter Multnomah County registration deadline is October 16, 2018. Voters’ Pamphlet • Ballots will be mailed beginning on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. If you do not receive your ballot by October 25, 2018, November 6, 2018 please call 503-988-3720. • Multnomah County Elections will open its second location, the General Election Voting Center Express in Gresham for this election. This location will be open October 22 - November 6 inside the __________________ Multnomah County East Building. Voters will be able to replace a lost ballot, get help voting, ask questions, or vote in person at the Voting Center Express at 600 NE 8th Street in downtown Multilingual Voting Gresham.     The Oregonian Portland City Council Likely to Restrict Use of Plastic Straws By Gordon Friedman November 10, 2018 The Portland City Council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on an ordinance that would make plastic straws and utensils available by request only citywide. Officials at Portland's Bureau of Planning and Sustainability came up with the proposal after the City Council directed them to in June, citing environmental damage caused by single-used plastics. To do that the bureau conducted a survey and convened a focus group with restauranteurs, business owners, a medical facility, people with disabilities and environmental advocates. The group recommended against an outright ban to single-use plastics because some people with disabilities rely on them to drink. It settled instead on the by-request policy to be considered Wednesday. If adopted, the new rules would take effect July 1, 2019. Portland has a long history of limiting the use of polluting products. It has restricted use of Styrofoam containers since 1990 and added a plastic bag ban in 2011. The Portland Tribune City Council Considers Plastic Straw Ban on Wednesday November 11, 2018 Portland may need to 'stop sucking' if a proposal to limit use of plastic straws is passed. The worldwide environmental campaign to ban single-use plastic straws arrives at the Portland City Council on Wednesday. City leaders will consider a new ordinance placing restrictions on those straws, as well as condiments packaged in plastic. Portland, city commissioners are slated to vote on a proposal advance by Mayor Ted Wheeler that would make plastic straws available only upon request by customers.

    February 17, 2021 U.S. House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20515 U.S. Senate Washington, D.C. 20510 Dear Members of Congress: As elected leaders representing communities across our nation, we are writing to urge you to take immediate action on comprehensive coronavirus relief legislation, including desperately needed funding for states, counties, cities, and schools, and an increase in states’ federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP). President Biden’s ambitious $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan will go a long way towards alleviating the significant financial strain COVID-19 has placed on our states, counties, cities, and schools, and the pocketbooks of working families. Working people have been on the frontlines of this pandemic for nearly a year and have continued to do their jobs during this difficult time. Dedicated public servants are still leaving their homes to ensure Americans continue to receive the essential services they rely upon: teachers and education workers are doing their best to provide quality education and keep their students safe, janitors are still keeping parks and public buildings clean, while healthcare providers are continuing to care for the sick. Meanwhile, it has been ten months since Congress passed the CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Fund to support these frontline workers and the essential services they provide. Without significant economic assistance from the federal government, many of these currently-middle class working families are at risk of falling into poverty through no fault of their own. It is a painful irony that while many have rightly called these essential workers heroes, our country has failed to truly respect them with a promise to protect them and pay them throughout the crisis.

Search NEWPORT BEACH Clear Sky Police Files Humidity: 87% “Stormy” past leads to serious federal charges for NB attorney Wind: 3.36 m/h Newport Beach attorney Michael Avenatti has been charged with fraud and aggravated 51.6°F identity theft for allegedly taking some $300,000 from Stormy Daniels. The latest charges are added to a number of other claims against Avenatti that include MON TUE WED wire fraud, bank fraud and extortion. Avenatti is suspected of spending monies directed to Daniels on personal expenses like airfare, hotels and restaurants, and to fund his law practice. He was also indicted this past week by a grand jury for allegedly attempting to extort 51/51°F 52/60°F 60/62°F some $25 million from Nike. Avenatti has denied the latest Daniels allegations. Daniels, a stripper and porn actress, is most known for her recent legal dispute with President Donald Trump, when she accused him of an affair. Alleged boat burglary involves nudity too Newport Beach Police were sent to the area of 28th St. and Newport Blvd., on Monday, May 20, around 6:30 p.m. for a citizen complaint of a suspicious person on a boat. Upon arrival, officers met with the owner of the boat who provided video surveillance of an individual on his boat without permission. The suspect allegedly entered the boat and rummaged through cabinets, while another suspect hovered nearby. Police arrested Kordel Eric Nelsoncaro, 24, of Costa Mesa, and Joseph Ray Banuelos, 23, of Anaheim.

    The Oregonian Portland Auditor Wins Uncontested Re-Election Bid By Gordon Friedman May 15, 2018 Mary Hull Caballero, Portland's elected auditor, won re-election in an uncontested race Tuesday. Hull Caballero, 56, said in a statement Tuesday that she aims to use her next four years in office to work toward a "better, more responsive city government for the people who pay for it and are served by it." Hull Caballero said she also looks to "once and for all address the city's budget-setting process," by which the councilors, whose bureaus are subject to Hull Caballero's audits, control the auditor's budget -- a position she called "untenable." "The budget is the last bit of business left undone from my fight for increased independence from the bureaus we audit and investigate," Hull Caballero said. An Albany native and Lewis & Clark College graduate, Hull Caballero worked for more than a decade as a journalist before becoming an auditor for the Oregon Department of Transportation and later the regional government, Metro. She was first elected as Portland auditor in 2014, also in an uncontested race. Nick Fish Wins Re-Election to Portland City Council By Gordon Friedman May 15, 2018 Commissioner Nick Fish won re-election to the Portland City Council on Tuesday, besting three candidates who sought his ouster. Partial ballot returns indicate Fish, an attorney and housing advocate from a family that includes several former members of Congress, easily beat advocacy group organizer Julie DeGraw, Portland Commissioner on Disability Philip Wolfe, who is deaf, and Nicholas Sutton, New Seasons Market clerk.
