ollowing a request by members of the Hickman Mills C-1 Board of Directors and a Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) report indicating Fstudents, faculty, staff and parents had a negative perception of the district relative to safety and security, a plan was initiated to install walk-through metal detectors in the high school and eighth- and ninth-grade center for the 2010-2011 school year. The district’s safety and security team reviewed available equipment and purchased the world’s most widely-used detection system (pictured to the right). Called the 6500i, it is the same metal detector used during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and used by the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) at all U. S. airports and numerous foreign airports worldwide. This sophisticated machine indicates the actual position of any metal objects, saving time and allowing the district to process as many as 60 people a minute. It is a top-of-the-line, state-of-the-art device that received the International Security Standards’ highest test certification.
