Predstavljanje ekonomske stvarnosti na način blizak egzaktnim naukama neminovno vodi preispitivanju modela i njihove primjenjivosti u našim uslovima. Jedan od modela je i model cijene kapitalne aktive (Capital Asset Pricing Model), razvijen od strane nobelovca Willama Sharpa prije više od 40 godina. Svaki ekonomski model predstavlja pojednostavljenu sliku stvarnosti, te polazi od više ili manje realnih pretpostavki, međutim, CAPM model, čak i ako su ispunjene određene pretpostavke, u tranzicionim zemljama gotovo je neprimenjiv. Akcenat u radu je stavljen na identifikovanje mogućnosti primjene CAPM modela za obračun diskontne stope koja se koristi u svrhu vrednovanja preduzeća. Prilikom analize, autor je razmatrao tržište kapitala Republike Srpske i Republike Srbije, koristeći podatke sa Beogradske i Banjalučke berze.
