  • Analysis of Lion (2016) As an Adapted Biopic of “A Long Way Home”
Pakistan Journal of Multidisciplinary Research (PJMR) Vol. 1, Issue 2, Dec 2020 Analysis of Lion (2016) as an Adapted Biopic of “A Long Way Home” M Asif Ikram Anjuma Lecturer, Department of Humanities, CUI Lahore campus *Correspondence Address: [email protected] Abstract The present study sets out to analyses a biopic - Lion (2016) which is adapted from Saroo Brierley‘s bestselling book “A Long Way Home (2013)”. The book and the movie depict the incredible life history of SarooBrierley, a five years old child and now a young man who used modern technology “Google Earth” to rediscover himself including his childhood life and hometown in India. At the age of five, the unfortunate SarooBrierley got lost in a local train in India which caused him to face many dreadful realities of life in Calcutta before being formally adopted by an Australian couple through an orphanage. The analysis of the study reveals that the movie qualifies for Giannetti’s (2008) concept of faithful adaptation as well as Wagner’s (1975) two modes of adaptation i.e. transposition and commentary. The present study also addresses Stam’s (2000) criticism on strict fidelity to discuss medium specificity approach. The study concludes that biopic, representative of its genre, has specific conventions and the movie Lion (2016) successfully qualifies for biopic as a genre. Keywords: Biopic Genre, faithful, transposition, commentary Introduction The present study aims to analyze the movie “Lion (2016)” as an adaptation of the book A Long way Home (2013). Broadly speaking, autobiography is difficult to define because it is used synonymously with memoir, life writing, self-narrative and it almost denotes all the modes of telling one’s own life.

The order for the Wing Loong II was placed before the next-generation unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) suc- cessfully completed its maiden flight, Xinhua said late on Monday, citing the system’s developer Chengdu Aircraft Design and Research Institute. It did not identify the buyer or the size of the order. The Wing Loong II, which has wingspan of more than 20 metres (65 feet), is a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV that has both reconnaissance and strike capabilities. It conducted a 31-minute flight for the first time on Mon- day after taking off from a runway in western China. “Its flight marks China’s new generation reconnaissance and strike UAV. Synopsis In LION, five-year-old Saroo gets lost on a train travelling away from his home and family. Frightened and bewildered, he ends up thousands of miles away, in chaotic Kolkata.
