FANCY MEETING YOU HERE

An Evening of Ahrens & Flaherty with Ann Kittredge In this tribute show, Ann breathes life into a wide breadth of characters from , , Once Upon This Island, and so many other Ahrens and Flaherty favorites. Before we even consider their shared background, it’s clear that performer, lyricist, and composer go hand in hand (in hand). and are stylistically unbridled, their body of work so beautifully varied. Their honest renditions of humanity demand nothing less than a full embodiment of character, relying equally on the performer’s storytelling and vocal capabilities. As a “vocal chameleon”1 and “story-songstress supreme,”2 Ann is the perfect conduit for such an oeuvre. These three artists share a simple, yet profound understanding: there must be as many different ways to expose the human heart as there are human hearts to expose. They also share some musical theater history, and the friendship that goes along with it. Ann met Stephen when she joined the cast of Nunsense Off-Broadway, where Stephen was a pianist. She met Lynn a couple of years later, when Ann joined the of a little musical called A Christmas Carol, which ran for ten years. Lynn wrote the musical alongside . As Ann was creating Fancy Meeting You Here, she reached out to Lynn and Steve to see if they had anything they specifically wanted her to share. She was pleasantly surprised when they gave her a rare piece from their trunk: a standalone song that wasn’t written for, and isn’t intended to be written into, any of their shows. Please enjoy Ann’s rendition of this rarely heard Ahrens and Flaherty gem, “Garden.” "Garden"

WHY AHRENS & FLAHERTY?

Ann describes why the duo deserve an evening to themselves in a recent Playbill interview. "We wanted to really challenge ourselves. There's different levels of how much [Ahrens & Flaherty] are known. Some people, they’re familiar with Ragtime, they heard that won a Tony Award last year and they’ve seen at their children's high school… It is such a perfect show for theatre people. Especially those who think they know Ahrens and Flaherty… and for those who don’t know them at all, they’re going to realize, 'Oh, I know that!' It’s an awakening.” Read the Full Interview Here REVIEWS

"[In] Ms. Kittredge's follow up to her 2018 Mac Award winning cabaret debut, she emerges as story-songstress supreme: a title that may be undefeated for some time to come… she's a total champ." - Brady Schwind, Broadway World

“A seasoned pro and an artistic force to be reckoned with… Kittredge dives into each lyric with astounding authenticity, all-the-while honoring both the original musical theater intent and the intimacy of the room.” - David Sabella, Cabaret Hotspot

“Think about a gourmet meal you might have enjoyed—how each fine ingredient and component came together to produce that superb result. In Fancy Meeting You Here, Ann Kittredge achieved that same effect. The combination of exquisite voice (with terrific range); just enough smart, naturalistic narrative; a bit of comedy; enthusiasm; authenticity; and sensitive acting skills added up to an evening of entertainment perfection.” - Marilyn Lester, Cabaret Scenes 4
