What inspired this career path, and how long have you been doing it for? I started my academic life in the North of England almost 20 years ago. Most people are there to alter the decline of capacities, to build capacities, to change shapes, to alter shapes. And this isn’t a narcissistic or a selfish thing. I think it’s actually about taking power over who you are by choosing to be there… by choosing the gym as where you are.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE MET BY A LOCAL COMMERCIAL PROVIDER, CLUB OR PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL For a local commercial provider, activity clubs or private individuals to assist with delivering a particular adventurous activity, we need evidence of: a. Recognised qualifications of the staff or members of the commercial provider, club or private individual; b. The holding their own professional indemnity and public liability insurance (equivalent to public liability insurance held by the Association) suitable for the activity being provided to Scouting Members; c. Any individual providing the service has a current WWCC (Blue Card); d.

Enrolments (Access) The Commonwealth performance data for 2017 shows that UWA’s position within the national rankings is mixed. UWA’s ranking for total Indigenous student load/EFTSL dropped slightly from our 2016 position. Our ranking for Indigenous students from regional and remote areas has just dropped outside the top 50% of rankings, but our Indigenous regional and remote students as percentage of all Indigenous students has increased. Our Success Rate ranking has remained steady and we are developing strategies to increase this. A number of actions and strategies to mitigate further drops in UWA’s Indigenous total load have been identified, but will take some time to have an impact. Since 2017 we have increased the number of commencing students as well as the access rate for 2017-2019 (from 1.54 to 1.71). Recruiting Indigenous school leavers remains a priority but the pool of potential students, particularly ATAR students is relatively small. The Department of Education Annual Report 2018 – 2019, shows that in 2018 for government schools only 60 Indigenous year 12 school leavers (8.3% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR. While maintaining our strong commitment to school leavers and regional students, key priority and target areas are increasing Indigenous postgraduate coursework enrolments, particularly in professional courses and building Indigenous HDR enrolments.

The Indigenous Nationals is held annually at different universities around Australia. This year, the event will be held at The Wollotuka Institute at The University of Newcastle and gives students a great opportunity to travel and compete with your team in an amazing environment that celebrates the rich sporting culture of Indigenous Australians. By participating in the games, you will not only get the opportunity to compete and represent ECU, but you will also get to network with Indigenous students and staff from all parts of Australia in the many social events that are held during the week. Teams will be made up of between 10 to 16 athletes and will compete across four codes: basketball, netball, volleyball and touch football. Being part of the ECU Indigenous team was a blast, forming a team and getting to know each other like family over an intense week sharing university experiences through sport.     AIS and Black Dog partner to improve mental fitness in young Australians 27th July 2020 EMBARGOED UNTIL 10AM MONDAY 27TH JULY 2020 Australian Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games athletes are joining the fight to help reduce rates of mental health issues in young children as part of a new community partnership between the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Black Dog Institute. Designed to help young people manage their mental health and improve their general wellbeing, the Mental Fitness Program will see 27 current and former elite athletes assist in delivering mental wellbeing presentations, both in-person and online, at high schools throughout the country. Mental Fitness Program presenter and Commonwealth Games gold medal winning boxer Harry Garside said his personal experience with mental health education at school was a game-changer. “I wanted to get involved in the Mental Fitness Program because I know firsthand that these workshops can have a significant impact and change the course of a young person’s life,” said Mr Garside. “As an elite athlete, I want to role model behaviour that promotes self-care and positive psychology to help improve the wellbeing and resilience of young Australians.” In Australia, it is estimated that 1 in 5 people will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year, and approximately 60% of those people won’t seek help. Over 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before the age of 25 which shows the importance of tackling the subject from an early age. Black Dog Institute Director and Chief Scientist Helen Christensen said the ability to bring sport and community together to teach meaningful life skills was needed now more than ever.
