Welcome Back Broncs

Dear Belle Fourche School District Families,

I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and safe. These are trying times and the Belle Fourche School District school staff and administrators are busy preparing for the start of the 2020-2021 School Year. The School District has surveyed the community, surveyed its staff, and looked at school start up plans from local school districts to develop the best plan we can to protect our children and staff members.

Some physical things we have done within our buildings include: installing high quality air filters in all our buildings, installing water bottle filling stations instead of water fountains, and installing “sneeze guards” in our office areas. We are also providing hand sanitizer on our fleet of buses, offices areas, classrooms, lunchrooms, and hallways. We are encouraging personal hygiene protocols at all building and grade levels. Other safety measures we will practice include washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and not sharing water bottles or other personal items. We will also encourage staff and students to wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible. We are encouraging all parents to include face coverings in their child’s back- to-school supply list. There will be disposable face covering at all buildings in the event a child forgets theirs at home.

The School District has also invested in a Learning Management System for grades K-8 called Canvas and for grades 9-12 called Schoology. Teachers are training on these two systems in the event parents choose to educate their children at home. These systems will allow students to remain enrolled in the School District while receiving teacher based learning at home. Parents who wish to apply for this option may do so during the online registration process. We are in the process of activating a new website that will allow better mobile access on one’s cell phone and it will be able to access all the social media platforms. The School District will have the capacity to contact parents and students in real time to share important information and positive events in school.

I want to thank everyone for their patience in allowing the District to develop the best educational options that we can. No plan will be perfect, however we have put together the best plan we can for our School District. We will need help to make the plan work. Parents will need to keep their children home if they are ill or have a fever. Parents will also need to have a place for their children to go if they become sick at school especially if both parents work. We will not have the ability to keep sick children in school until the end of the school day. Children will need picked up as soon as possible.

If you have any questions please review our School Re-Opening Plan on our website or call/email the building principals or myself. We will make it through this because we are “Bronc Strong”.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Willard Superintendent of Schools Belle Fourche School District
