Welcome Back Broncs

Dear Belle Fourche School District Families,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. It is hard to believe school is ready to begin. Summer seems to go by so fast. We are excited to have students back in our buildings. The last year and a half have been somewhat of a challenge, but we made it through. We have made some School District improvements we would like to tell you about.

 We have installed air conditioning at South Park and a new boiler at North Park. Both buildings have installed air purification systems to help with the classroom environment. The air purification systems will help remove bacteria and viruses from the air reducing illnesses.  The track at Lou Graslie Field has been resurface and is being repainted. The concession stand has new ADA approved serving windows with a new awning. The ticket booth is being replaced to meet ADA requirements. (ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990).  We are a 1-to-1 device school now. Students in grades 5-12 have laptops and students K- 4 have Chromebooks or iPads.  Our free school lunch program will continue through the 2021-2022 school year. All students K-12 can eat school breakfast and lunch for free. The School District is working on policies to meet new state and federal laws. The voters in the state passed the medical marijuana law that will need to be implemented in every school district. The Department of Education along with the Department of Health should have guidelines for school districts to follow early this fall. The federal government has put into place new Title IX requirements that school districts will need to incorporate into their policies. Title IX deals with sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.

We are looking forward to an exciting school year. We have a great School District that will continue to look for ways to improve the education of our children.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Willard Superintendent of Schools Belle Fourche School District
