This project involved taking the design from the creative team and developing the extensive media site entirely in Flash and ActionScript. Working alongside the in-house teams we took an active lead developer role in the design and evolution of the entire project and website. Through this project we also trained up a junior ActionScript developer. The site is fully dynamic and can work alongside SOCIAL MEDIA a custom content management and administration system, and is fully searchable (SEO compliant) by Google and Yahoo – both features are still a rarity with Flash sites. GAMES INTERACTIVE W E BS ITE S MOBILE APPS MOBILE PROJECT: VOICE Website, Intranet and Data Platform CLIENT: VOICE TECHNOLOGY USED: Flash Builder, Flash, Actionscript 3, Adobe Air, PureMVC, AMF, PHP, MySQL, HTML, AJAX VOICE are a rapidly growing contact centre based in Sheffield. Within 4 years they have grown from 20 to nearly 1000 agents. TABLET APPS TABLET VOICE wanted a website that made them stand out from their competition both visually and technically. The client also tasked Redemption Media with building their intranet. A portal designed to bring employees together into a community - even when they are based at various sites across the city. Redemption Media built the website on Adobe’s Flash platform to enable smooth navigation of the site along with the ability to add rich media to the site as the client produces content. The SOCIAL MEDIA website also has HTML alternative versions specifically designed for mobiles and iPad viewers. The intranet was built as an Adobe Air application. This was mainly due to the security restrictions surrounding contact centres. The client also wanted to able to control access to the intranet and by using Air enabled Redemption Media to integrate closely with VOICE’s IT infrastructure. Redemption Media created a ‘platform’ from which services like the website and intranet could be built upon. VOICE’s employees are present on multiple databases due to their IT systems and so the intranet pulls together these databases and GAMES presents the employee’s data - hours worked, holiday allowance, performance etc - in an accessible and graphical format. Redemption Media’s platform will enable VOICE to add services easily in the future - mobile ‘apps’, Facebook apps etc can all connect to the platform through the Redemption Media API that was created to interface to the platform and it’s data. INTERACTIVE The website and intranet are administered by a comprehensive but easy-to-use custom content management system. Website design by Iris Associates www.irisassociates.com W E BS ITE S MOBILE APPS MOBILE PROJECT: Janefardon.com e-commerce website CLIENT: Janefardon.com TECHNOLOGY USED: Ruby on Rails http://www.janefardon.com Redemption Media were appointed by this retailer to man- age, host and upgrade their existing website. The site had been APPS TABLET partially built by another digital company but there were many outstanding issues with the developed website. As part of the upgrade, Redemption Media modified the payment systems to comply with new legislation and compliance laws. Sales through the site have increased significantly since the completion of Redemption Media’s work. SOCIAL MEDIA The retailer is now also able to access full analytics of their website, giving them a great level of intelligence regarding their site. Ruth wanted to create an app which would not only be fun for children to play but would also be ‘engineered’ to enhance their learning. Working with Ruth Redemption Media created this Android and iOS game. Due to the highly graphical nature of the game we chose to SOCIAL MEDIA build the app using Adobe’s Air technology to convert the app into versions to run on the Android and iOS devices. Apple were so impressed with the app that they have consistently profiled the app in their ‘What’s hot’ category within the app store - still there after 6 months. This valids our Actionscript/Air approach to developing high performance apps and enabled us to reduce development costs to the client by 50%! The app has been very successful with over 40k daily users and over 130k downloads within 6 months. GAMES Reaching number 3 in the iTunes charts in China and Number 1 throughout another 10 regions. INTERACTIVE WEBSITES MO B PROJECT: True Colours iPhone and Blackberry Playbook App I L CLIENT: True Colours image Consultancy E A TECHNOLOGY USED: Adobe Illustrator, Objective-C, Adobe PP Flash, Actionscript 3 S True Colours are a leading image consultancy based in Sheffield, England. TABLET APPS TABLET They specialise in determining, through half-day consultations, people’s ‘colours’ - those colours which suit people the most, compliment their skin type and colour. Once these ‘colours’ have been found then a swatch pack is compiled which contains large fabric samples of the colours. The swatch packs are used when shopping for cosmetics, clothing and jewellery. SOCIAL MEDIA Redemption Media developed this dedicated digital swatch pack so that True Colour’s customers can have their colours with them all the time. The app enables the user to select their ‘profile’ of colours and then displays this selection of colours in a easy to use and quick to navigate format. A full screen copy of a specific colour can be viewed for easy comparison next to physical items such as clothes and cosmetics. Although Redemption Media have the expertise and experience to create iOS apps using Objective-C as we have done for GAMES the iOS version of this app, we also developed this app using Actionscript, the Adobe Flash language to target the Blackberry Playbook. We have used this as a successful example of combining our 15 years Flash development experience with the relatively new iPhone/iPad development platform - iOS. Redemption Media were given a complimentary Blackberry INTERACTIVE Playbook for contributing this app to their market place for the launch of the tablet device. • Introduction to Flex and Air
Introduction to Flex and Air CS174 Chris Pollett Nov. 24, 2008. Outline • Flash, Flex, and Adobe Air • Installation • Simple Program • Components Flash • Flash was originally a product to make it easy to produce vector based animations on the web created around 1996 based on technology purchased by Macromedia (now Adobe) from Futurewave. • Flash programs are typically executed by the Flash player plug-in which is (Sep 2008) available in some browser on 99% of desktops (Flash >7, for Flash 9 is 98%). • It is used to create Rich Internet Applications (RIA) and competes against AJAX, Silverlight (Windows), Applets (Java), etc. • It can also be used to do tracking (PIE -- Persistent Identification Elements -- not turned off as often as cookies) • It has the advantage over AJAX that as the plug-in is produced by one source, it runs the same in any browser. It also supports richer kinds of media like Video. (YouTube). Flex • The main authoring tool for Flash is Flash Professional, which is GUI IDE designed to make it easy to create Flash. • Flex is an Adobe product which gives a more programmatic way to create Flash files. • There is a Flex IDE, Flex Builder, which can also be used, however, the basic SDK is open sourced under the Mozilla License (can mix proprietary and open source code). • We will only look at the basic SDK which we will access mainly from the command line. • There are other open-source tool chains which can be used to create .swf files, notably, OpenLaszlo. Adobe Air • Air is a product released by Adobe in Feb, 2008 to make it easy to convert Flash programs into stand- alone applications.
