All albino tea trees can be divided into two groups: Albino Tea photosensive and thermosensive. Photosensive Tangya First Grade culvars have light-colored young shoots during the Enshi, Hubei, China me of year when the sun is most acve, and when there is less sunlight, their leaves become darker and acquire the usual green color. Huangjinya, Yu- Jin-Xiang and Jinguang tea variees belong to this group of albino culvars. Young leaves of thermosensive albino tea trees are lighter in color when air temperature is low, but when it rises to 20- 22°С, the leaves become greener. Anji Baicha and Xiaoxueya belong to the group of thermosensive albino culvars.

The main characteriscs of made from albino leaves are approximately the same and do not depend on the nature of albinism. Compared to non-albino teas, albino teas contain more amino acids and similar compounds (including ), less caffeine and less . As a rule, albino teas have more pronounced umami taste, no bierness, and less astringency.

DNA-markers help idenfy albino tea trees and their young plants when their leaves are green (e.g. in autumn): doi: 10.5897/AJB09.971

In Sichuan and in Hubei newly introduced albino tea culvars were compared with commonly used local culvars. In Sichuan, albino variees Huangjinya, Jinguang and Yujinxiang were compared with Fudingda- baicha; it was concluded that the Yujinxiang variety has a very high yield. In Hubei, albino variees (Huangjingcha 1, Anji Baicha and Zhonghuang 1) were compared with Echa 1, which is a dominant tea culvar there. Besides the analysis of biochemical components, the study focused on evaluang sensory qualies, showing that “Anji Baicha was the most excellent tea variety, followed by Huangjincha 1; Zhonghuang 1 was shown to be comparable to Echa 1”. The three albino tea culvars were all found suitable for producing high-quality green tea.

And below there is a link to a Japanese study claiming that Japan has its own albino tea culvars (Hoshinomidori, Kiraka, Yamabuki, and Morokozawa), that one of them was first registered as early as 1981, and that, at present, the Japanese use leaves of albino tea culvars to produce light-green tea.
