A special mention should go to our Clinical The build up to the CQC inspection was something Commissioners who agreed a new way of working to behold. The only analogy I can think of is a with us and this improved our ability to cope with military operation, we had so many terrific examples some extraordinary events together. Collectively we of great patient care to highlight to the inspectors have all agreed and signed off a Bolton Locality Plan and we desperately wanted to showcase the talents which lays out our joint plans to meet the growing and dedication of all our staff. It’s I won’t round off by pointing out that 2017 will hard to believe but we ended 2015/16 with a small bring its own unique challenges but rather to surplus and as we close the 2016 year we are in reiterate that in each of the last three years our collective performance has improved – against all surplus again. Speak it softly but that is three years expectation. Over the last year Bolton has had in a row of small surpluses and represents the best several of our individuals and teams recognised at performance in Greater Manchester. High praise indeed I believe that, taken in the round and considering all these results, Bolton was the best hospital in the David Wakefield North West during 2016. Chairman Changes to Estates and Facilities Services The Trust has been developing a new way of delivering its estates, facilities and procurement services, which focuses on improved productivity, efficiency and the way these services support clinical teams across the organisation. These services will be delivered by a new company called Integrated Facilities Bolton - iFM Bolton for short. iFM Bolton will begin operating on 1st January 2017.as a wholly owned subsidiary of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. Cleaning and portering services are currently provided by a company called ISS, our contract with ISS comes to an end on 31st December 2016 and we have decided to take the opportunity to transfer these services back into our own control. Staff currently employed by ISS will have their employment transferred into the new organisation on 1st January 2017. Estates, facilities and procurement services currently provided by the trust will be brought into the new company on 1st April 2017. We have taken the decision to form iFM Bolton because we firmly believe it is in the best interests of both patients and staff and is the best option for sustaining the long term future of the trust. However we do appreciate that this period of organisational change could prove unsettling for staff as we navigate through the process of establishing the new company. We’re confident that this new approach will ensure that we provide a higher quality of service for our patients and visitors. We will have greater control over cleaning and portering services and will be building teams of support staff to serve different sectors of the Trust. This will increase the links to ward teams and improve the quality of the service we provide to our patients The photograph opposite shows the new uniform to be work by iFM cleaning and portering staff. x172338_CBS_p3_lh.indd 2 19/12/2016 16:52 Chairman’s Letter (continued) Volunteering Update This information provides an update in relation to the continuing work into setting up of the introduction of Volunteers within Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. Volunteers provide a supplementary service for patients and their relatives. They offer their skills, expertise, knowledge and experience on a completely unpaid basis, in their own time. We actively started our recruitment for Volunteers to join us in August 2016 and vacancies have been advertised through the Bolton NHS website under the work with us section, Do-it.org, Bolton Community Volunteer Services, Bolton College and Bolton University. Changes to Estates We have had a good response to our advertisements and the ongoing process for recruitment and Facilities Services is working well. We are pleased to report that we have successfully recruited 38 new volunteers and they are supporting the following areas: • Hospital Guides (Meet & Greet Service) • Volunteers Supporting the Churchill Unit • Volunteers Supporting the Complex Care Wards • Visiting patients and completing the Open and Honest Survey and Hospital Inpatient Experience using the iPad. A further 14 applicants are booked on future Induction Courses with 21 applicants still going through the recruitment process making our total prospective intake of 73 volunteers. Our volunteers have been provided with a uniform which consists of a Yellow Polo Shirts, black lanyard with the wording of NHS Volunteer imprinted on the lanyard and a Badge with the wording “CAN I HELP YOU?” This makes them stand out as a volunteer and adopts a dress code that our volunteers are proud to wear when undertaking their volunteering roles. Further ongoing recruitment will enable the Trust to develop and expand into other areas within the hospital and community and this has now been reinforced with a further recruitment campaign for volunteers to join Darley Court and our Maternity Unit.
