The ten-year plan provides Caltrans' vision for intercity rail service. Caltrans'l0-year plan goals are to provide intercity rail as an alternative mode of transportation, promote congestion relief, improve air quality, better fuel efficiency, and improved land use practices. This year's Plan includes: standards for meeting those goals; sets priorities for increased revenues, increased capacity, reduced running times; and cost effectiveness. -

After Dover Air Force Base, the main port for returning remains, released hundreds of government photos of the ceremonies, the Defense Department ordered Thursday that no more photographs be released. In addition, two employees for defense contractor Maytag Aircraft were fi red after the Pentagon complained about a photo of fl ag-draped caskets taken by one of them appeared in the Seattle Times. In March 2003, on the eve of war in Iraq, the Pentagon ordered an end to all media coverage of ceremonies for the returning remains of soldiers killed overseas. Although Dover already had such a policy, the Pentagon action enforced a military-wide ban on images of fl ag-draped caskets that dated from late 2000 but had not been followed. With few exceptions, the ban had remained in force until recent days. But last week, about 350 photos from Dover were released under a Freedom of Information Act request by Russ Kick, a First Amendment advocate who runs a Web site called the Memory Hole (www.thememoryhole.org). Dover had recommended that Kick’s request be denied, but offi cials at Air Mobility Command headquarters at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois authorized the release on appeal. -

Final Report Santa Clara Station Pedestrian Crossing Study Prepared for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority Prepared by June 8, 2007 Final Report SANTA CLARA STATION PEDESTRIAN CROSSING STUDY PURPOSE OF REPORT The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has requested an analysis of the pros and cons of a potential temporary pedestrian grade crossing of Union Pacific Railroad (UP) tracks at the Santa Clara Caltrain Station. The station is located south of Benton Road. Access to the two Caltrain tracks adjacent to the station is from the west (geographic south). The UP tracks run parallel to and to the east of the Caltrain tracks. The Santa Clara Station is one of three stations in Santa Clara County where pedestrian access to trains is only from one side of the station1. Caltrain is designing a major capital project at the station jointly funded by Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) and the Caltrain Joint Powers Board (JPB) that will improve train operations. This project will include a pedestrian tunnel under the Caltrain tracks to a planned “island” center passenger platform. The area of the new platform appears in Figure 1. As planned and funded, the Caltrain tunnel will not extend all the way to the eastside of the UP tracks. Rather, the tunnel will serve as access for the island platform from the Santa Clara station platform only. Construction of the tunnel is scheduled for completion within two years. A potential temporary crossing of the UP tracks would provide interim access to the planned center island platform, to be located between the Caltrain and UP tracks, from the east side of the UP tracks. -
Amy Ramos Is a San Jose Native and Has Lived in the Area for Her Entire Life
Amy Ramos is a San Jose native and has lived in the area for her entire life. After high school, she attended West Valley College and then transferred and graduated from San Jose State University (SJSU) in 2000. Amy is half Scottish and is the oldest of three children. Her mum grew up in Glasgow and her parents met at a pub when her Father was stationed in the Navy in Scotland. Amy’s dad still lives in the same house that she grew up in. She has a younger sister and a younger brother and feels very fortunate that they all live close to one another. Amy feels that her path chose her. Back in late 2014, she was talking to a coworker and Amy mentioned that she was about to turn 40 and wanted a change in career. Amy was encouraged to join the paralegal program at West Valley College. Amy’s friend thought that Amy would be great as a paralegal because she had worked as an Administrative Assistant for close to 15 years. It took her about 18 months to finish the program as she was working full-time and taking classes at night. Amy received her paralegal certificate at West Valley College in December 2016. Amy works at a small family law office in Downtown San Jose. Every day is different! While her job can be stressful, she truly enjoys working with an amazing group of co-workers. They are her second family! Shortly after she joined SCCoLPA, she found out that she could become a California Certified Legal Secretary (CCLS). -

Take Caltrain to San Jose Sharks Playoff Series vs. Anaheim Ducks The home portion of the San Jose Sharks’ quest to bring the Stanley Cup at long last to Northern California begins Monday, April 16, at SAP Center. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. This is Game 3 of a best-of-seven series against Pacific Division rival the Anaheim Ducks. Game 4 is Wednesday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. Hockey fans can ride Caltrain to the game by getting off at the San Jose Diridon station, located across the street from SAP Center. Trains will run on a typical weekday schedule. The last train on weekdays departs San Jose Diridon station at 10:30 p.m. or 15 minutes after the game ends but departs no later than 10:45 p.m. should the game go into overtime. The train makes all local stops. If the series continues beyond five games, the teams would play Game 6 in San Jose on Sunday, April 22, at a to-be-determined time. Check the team websitefor the official game time and Caltrain website for the Sunday service scheduleand Caltrain Sharks Service. Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system; tickets are not sold onboard trains but can be purchased at vending machines at the stations. To save time on the return trip, passengers are encouraged to buy a Day Pass or utilize the new Caltrain Mobile ticketing app. Clipper card users are reminded to tag on and tag off. Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 for the day, and permits can be purchased through ticket machines onsite. -

The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team Program The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team Program was formed in 1996 and is a partnership between the Golden State Warriors, Oakland A’s, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, San Jose Earthquakes and the San Jose Sharks. Each participating sports team has contributed to the scholarship program in a collective effort to assist Bay Area high school students achieve goals of higher education. This unique committee is the first of its kind in the realm of professional sports. The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship The Bay Area All-Star Scholarships will be awarded to six successful students residing within the Bay Area’s nine counties. All public high schools within these counties are encouraged to nominate up to four (4) students for this prestigious college award. Each award recipient will receive a scholarship in the amount of $5,000 and will be recognized at team ceremonies. Eligibility A teacher or school administrator must nominate all scholarship candidates. To nominate a student(s), the school official must attach a letter of recommendation describing the unique qualities, achievements and circumstances that make the student(s) an exceptional scholarship nominee. Student applicants must meet the following criteria for nomination: Be a college-bound senior currently attending a Bay Area public high school. Have a Tax ID Number. Display leadership qualities in the classroom. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 from sophomore to senior year of high school. Demonstrate the value of education, good work ethic and community outreach. There will be no discrimination regardless of gender, race or religion when choosing a successful scholarship recipient. -

Route(s) Description 26 The increased frequency on the 26 makes the entire southwestern portion of the network vastly more useful. Please keep it. The 57, 60, and 61 came south to the area but having frequent service in two directions makes it much better, and riders from these routes can connect to the 26 and have much more areas open to them. Thank you. Green Line The increased weekend service on the Green line to every twenty minutes is a good addition of service for Campbell which is seeing markedly better service under this plan. Please keep the increased service. Multiple Please assuage public concerns about the 65 and 83 by quantifying the impact the removal of these routes would have, and possible cheaper ways to reduce this impact. The fact is that at least for the 65, the vast majority of the route is duplicative, and within walking distances of other routes. Only south of Hillsdale are there more meaningful gaps. Mapping the people who would be left more than a half mile (walkable distance) away from service as a result of the cancellation would help the public see what could be done to address the service gap, and quantifying the amount of people affected may show that service simply cannot be justified. One idea for a route would be service from winchester transit center to Princeton plaza mall along camden and blossom hill. This could be done with a single bus at a cheaper cost than the current 65. And nobody would be cut off. As far as the 83 is concerned, I am surprised the current plan does not route the 64 along Mcabee, where it would be eq.. -
