News Archive Official Statements Head of the Delegation of the European Union and EU Special Representative in BiH Ambassador Johann Sattler and Minister of Justice of Republika Srpska Anton Kasipovic today officially opened On the Issues the newly constructed building of judicial institutions in Trebinje, funded by the European Union with 1.6 million euro. The Courthouse that accommodates the District and Municipal Courts and the Studies and Reports District Prosecutor’s Office is designed and equipped in line with the highest EU standards. Top Stories Ambassador Sattler stressed that the rule of law is the foundation of any democratic society and the Uncategorized core value of the European Union. “Rule of law is the basis of a fair and democratic society, but it is also about living decently. It is about bringing perpetrators to justice and trials conducted by an independent and impartial judiciary. It is prerequisite to economic development and fight against corruption... This building secured to deliver justice but for rule of law to take root, the quality of the judiciary is essential, ” said Ambassador Sattler. Trebinje Courthouse is a part of the wider EU assistance package of over 28 million euros aimed at the rehabilitation and modernisation of 32 courts and prosecutor’s officers in 17 cities across Bosnia and Hercegovina to ensure premises that can enable equal access to justice, and the proceedings completed in a reasonable time. Anton Kasipovic, Minister of Justice of the RS, thanked the donors and the judicial professionals for their involvement in ensuring the realisation of the project. “There is a reason this building is called the Palace of Justice. However, buildings do not make justice. It needs to be rooted in law and a firm decision that we will work and function according to it. Justice needs to be part of our consciousness, ” stressed Minister Kasipovic, adding that “We can always do better. Now there are no technical obstacles to quality work that focuses on the needs of the citizens of Trebinje and indeed Herzegovina. ” As part of his visit in Trebinje region, Ambassador Sattler visited a number of the EU-funded local initiatives and projects aiming to save existing and open new jobs in tourism and gastro industry. This included a visit to the Vukoje winery, one of the beneficiaries of the EU4Business project, and a tour around the city with the boats whose reconstruction was ensured via the EU cross-border cooperation program. Ambassador Sattler also met local youth activists involved in a production of the ‘Awakening Solidarity’ mural designed by young artist Rikardo Druskic, and with a group of journalist travelling around the region as part of the OdmoriuBiH initiative promoting domestic tourism. Both projects were supported by the EU. Life standard in the social and economic spheres transposes contradiction in the political system. Departure of professional forces abroad and losing most vital segments of the population in whose education and training is spent a fifth of the budget. Quality of life depends on many factors, of which in this paper we point out: the conditions in which we work and live, housing and health conditions, possibilities to meet the cultural, sports, entertainment, and numerous other requirements and needs of a modern man. Economic sphere determines the standard of living of every man. Key words: employment, black market work, life standard, poverty, sustainable levels, occupations Introduction Unemployment is a direct cause of the poor state of the economy and thus society. Context Quarterly Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and other countries in the Quick Facts Western Balkan region continue to face major challenges, including socioeconomic gridlock, perceived corruption within a 18 Cleared Grants wide range of sectors, unresolved legacies from the 1990’s conflicts, and youth disenfranchisement. Residents’ perception of some aspects of quality of life in the cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina Abstract In fi ve focus groups, organized in fi ve major cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina residents gave answers on how they perceive some aspects of quality of life that would have to be improved by their municipal authorities. On this basis, we constructed a scale for measuring the quality of life in those areas which are under the local jurisdiction and in which local authorities can aff ect the quality of life of residents. Factor analysis extracted 7 factors of quality of life with which we can explain 71% variance, while individual factors explain 5-26% of common variance. Th e scale for measuring the quality of life was administered to 1503 respondents in 14 cities in B&H. It is found that there are signifi cant diff erences in quality of life among certain municipalities, while the quality of life in the Republic of Srpska and Federation B&H is uniform. Key words: quality of life, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the local authorities. Introduction Th ere are only a few concepts that have from the beginning of 20th cen- tury experienced such an intense change in content and meaning as it has the meaning of quality of life. He obtained the Master of sociological sciences degree at the University in Zagreb and the PhD at the University in Ljubljana. His field is sociology of religion, sociology of cognition and morals and religions of contemporary world.
