Wave data recording program Weipa Region 1978–2004 Coastal Sciences data report No. W2004.5 ISSN 1449–7611 Abstract This report provides summaries of primary analysis of wave data recorded in water depths of approximately 5.2m relative to lowest astronomical tide, 10km west of Evans Landing in Albatross Bay, west of Weipa. Data was recorded using a Datawell Waverider buoy, and covers the periods from 22 December, 1978 to 31 January, 2004. The data was divided into seasonal groupings for analysis. No estimations of wave direction data have been provided. This report has been prepared by the EPA’s Coastal Sciences Unit, Environmental Sciences Division. Of those missions, five had net cash deficits in the total amount of $86.0 million (in comparison with $86.1 million as at 30 June 2016) as a result of outstanding payments of assessed contributions from Member States. The Protection of Children in Peacemaking and Peacekeeping Processes Ilene Cohn* I. BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION Despite increased international attention to and awareness of children's rights, children are largely overlooked in the peacemaking and peacekeeping process. Rules of engagement for peacekeepers disregard children, and re- construction and reconciliation programs that emerge from negotiations ignore the differential impact on and particular needs of children. The effect is to marginalize persistent problems like the rehabilitation and reintegra- tion of child soldiers and, more broadly, to miss the opportunity to address widespread systemic problems common to war-torn societies. Children suffer disproportionately in war, and they benefit disproportion- ately less in peace. The international community has recognized the deficiency of the international bill of rights in addressing specific classes of injustice or the status of entire groups of persons, and it has acknowledged the need for programmatic tools to address the special needs of vulnerable communities. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), to which I refer throughout as a guidepost for children-oriented initiatives, is the most widely ratified human rights treaty and obliges States to take positive measures to ensure the protection of children's rights both in peace and in war.1 A similar approach is both warranted and reasonable in peace proc- * Program Officer, Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, United Nations. Tropical cyclones (cyclones) are natural meteorological events which cannot be prevented. However, the combination of their impacts and those of other stressors — such as poor water quality, crown-of-thorns starfish predation and warm ocean temperatures — can permanently damage reefs if recovery time is insufficient. In the short term, management response to a particular tropical cyclone may be warranted to promote recovery if critical resources are affected. Over the long term, using modelling and field surveys to assess the impacts of individual tropical cyclones as they occur will ensure that management of the Great Barrier Reef represents world best practice. This Tropical Cyclone Risk and Impact Assessment Plan was first developed by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) in April 2011 after tropical cyclone Yasi (one of the largest category 5 cyclones in Australia’s recorded history) crossed the Great Barrier Reef near Mission Beach in North Queensland. -

Martin Adam, Ph.D. Annotation The purpose of this thesis is an analysis of a corpus comprising of opening sentences of articles collected from the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia. Four different quality categories from Wikipedia were chosen, from the total amount of eight, to ensure gathering of a representative sample, for each category there are fifty sentences, the total amount of the sentences altogether is, therefore, two hundred. The sentences will be analysed according to the Firabsian theory of functional sentence perspective in order to discriminate differences both between the quality categories and also within the categories.
