Who We Are Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT) helps strengthen communities through conservation work. With our help, dozens of Tug Hill farm families and landowners have kept their wild lands wild, forests productive, and farms working. The very essence of Tug Hill and its communities is tied to these lands. THTLT’s first generation of conservation and education has successfully protected land and raised awareness. Today over 20,000 acres of critical lands are protect by conservation easements. Hundreds of kids and adults are also developing an appreciation for conservation and learning how special Tug Hill is through various educational programs and recreational outings. Why protect Tug Hill? A northeast gem in upstate New York, the Tug Hill region lies between Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains, Oneida Lake and the Black River. One of the most rural and remote areas in NY state, it is approximately 2,100 square miles and consists of 41 towns in Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida and Oswego Counties. The farms and forests, wetlands and waterways, wildlife habitats and recreational lands are the landscapes that have made, and continue to make, Tug Hill the special place it is today. Vital to the economic and environmental well-being of our communities, conserving these lands is the only way to retain the natural resources and character of the region. Despite success, there's more work to do as the well being of communities are being diminished and Tug Hill’s wild lands, farms and forests are getting subdivided and developed. With hope that everyone will one day understand why conservation is so important, we are working toward a future that will keep protecting land and engaging the community.
