This has caused considerable challenges in accurate species identification, meaning that a number of cryptic species have been er- roneously identified as known species, resulting in substantially underestimated species diversity. We have integrated ev- idence from morphology and DNA sequence data to describe a new species of the Asian Grass Lizard, Takydromus albomaculosus sp. nov., based on two specimens from Tianjingshan Forestry Station, Ruyuan County, Guangdong Prov- ince, China. The new species can be distinguished from other known Takydromus species by distinctive morphological differences and significant genetic divergence in the mitochondrial COI gene.

Wang, sp. nov. is described based on a series of specimens collected from the Yunkaishan Nature Reserve located in the southern Yunkai Mountains, western Guangdong Province, China. The new species is a sister taxon toT. intermedius with a genetic divergence of 8.0–8.5% in the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene, and differs from all known congeners by a combination of the following morphological characters: (1) body size moderate, SVL 37.8–56.0 mm in males, 42.6–60.8 mm in females; (2) dorsal ground color brown; ventral surface

  • The Batrachians and Reptiles of Formosa
. THE BATRACHIANS AND REPTILES OF FORMOSA. By Leonhard Stejneger, Curator, Division of Reptiles and Batrachians, U. S. National Museum. When Robert Swinhoe, in 1863, published the first List of the Formosan Reptiles he had only 15 species to enumerate. After the lapse of forty-four years the species of reptiles known to occur in Formosa and its outlying islands had increased to 50, as given in my Herpetology of Japan. To-day, three years after the issue of the latter, the number has risen to 66. The record of the batrachians is still more remarkable. Swinhoe collected only 4 species of batra- chians in Formosa, as follows: llyla chinensis, Microhyla fissipes, Rana plancyi, and Rana tigerina. In 1907 I recorded 9 species. In the present paper there are enumerated 20 species. The activity in collecting these animals in Formosa since the pub- lication in 1907 of the Herpetology of Japan has raised the total number of batrachians and reptiles known to occur in that island from 59 to 86 species. Of the 26 species thus added to the fauna, no less than 15 are new species, and 8 represent genera hitherto not known to occur on the island. These additions are recorded in seven papers by five authors, as follows: 1908. Barbour, Thomas. Some new Reptiles and Amphibians. Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., vol. 51, no. 12, pp. 315-325. 1909. In this paper, external characters of the Lanyu popuation are exmined and compared with those of the two Philippine subspecies. The results indicate subspecific allocation of the former to borealis rather than to the nominotypical subspecies. Biogeographical implications of the present findings are discussed. Introduction Lanyu Island (Kotosho or Botel Tobago; 22° 00-05'N, 121° 29-36'E) is located ca.70 km southeast of the main-island of Taiwan and ca.390 km north of Luzon Island, the Philippines (Fig. 1 ). Faunal and floral characteristics of this islet have long been attracting biologists' attentions, and quite a few papers have been published regarding the biogeographical relationship of Lanyu Island with adjacent areas since Kuroda (1925) pointed out the close similarity of its avifauna with that of the Philippines [see Kano (1933, 1935) for review on early works] .

  • Catalogue of Bhutan Longhorn Beetles (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)
Humanity space International almanac VOL. 8, No 2, 2019: 141-198 http://zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:B913A6EB-032D-4A02-909D-2FA10229307D Catalogue of Bhutan Longhorn beetles (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) M.A. Lazarev State Budget Professional Educational Institution of the Moscow Region “Chekhov technical college” Novaya str., 4, Novyi Byt village, Chekhov District, Moscow Region 142322 Russia e-mail: [email protected]; [email protected] Key words: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, taxonomy, distribution, Bhutan. Abstract. The Catalogue includes all 162 Cerambycidae species of Bhutan fauna known up to 2019 with the references to the original descriptions; 12 species were not mentioned for Bhutan in Palaearctic Cerambycidae Catalogue by Löbl & Smetana (2010); 16 species are excluded from Bhutan fauna, because those records were based on the publications for Maria Basti (West-Bengal, Darjeeling District). Bibliography of each species usually includes the geographical information from corresponding publications. Many new taxonomy positions published after 2010 are used here without special remarks. The present work follows the previous publication on Afghanistan Cerambycidae, and is an attempt to summarize all data published up to now on Cerambycidae of Bhutan fauna. family CERAMBYCIDAE Latreille, 1802 subfamily Prioninae Latreille, 1802 tribe Aegosomatini J.
