GAUGE:

14 tr = about 4 in. (10 cm) with larger hook.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. Making a Gauge Swatch

CAP With larger hook, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring (leaving a long yarn tail). Rnd 1: Ch 1, 11 sc in ring; join with sl st in first sc. Rnd 2 (WS): Ch 1, turn, working in front loops only, sl st loosely in each st around; join with sl st in first st. Rnd 3 (RS): Ch 4 (counts as tr in this and following rnds), turn, working in both loops, tr in first st, 2 tr in next st and each rem st around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-4 – 22 sts. Row 4 (RS): Ch 4, working in back loops only, tr in first tr, 2 tr in next tr and each rem tr around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-4 – 44 sts. Rnd 5 (WS): Rep Rnd 2. Rnd 6 (RS): Ch 4, turn, (2 tr in next st, tr in next st) 21 times, 2 tr in last st; join with sl st in top of beg ch-4 – 66 sts. Rnd 7 (WS): Rep Rnd 2. Rnd 8 (RS): Ch 4, turn, sk first st, tr in next st and each rem st around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. Rnds 9-12: Rep Rnds 7 and 8 twice. Change to smaller hook. Note: Rnds 13-17 are worked from the RS only. Rnd 13: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Rnds 14-17: Rep Rnd 13. Fasten off. With smaller hook, using the long yarn tail at the beg of cap, ch 10 tightly. Form a loop and sew to Cap. Fasten off.
