Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings), making all games worth three points. The 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts only affect conference standings while the game is officially a tie for NCAA purposes.

NCHC Media Excellence Award New in 2017-18, the NCHC Media Excellence Award will be presented to one member of the media each season at the NCHC Awards Celebration in recognition of outstanding media coverage that conveys the stories of the NCHC and its members, furthers the conference’s brand and/or mission, and promotes the NCHC and its members in a positive manner. The award will honor a media member who is well-regarded within the conference and college hockey as a whole, and who dedicates at least some of their time to covering the sport. Special consideration may also be given to media members who have covered the conference and/or a member team for many years, or to a media member who has been bestowed with industry awards from other entities in that given year. NCHC member school sports information directors (SIDs) will submit nominations and also vote on the award at the end of the season.

Senior forwards David Pope and Tyler Vesel each recorded three points in the win on a pair of goals and an assist, to lead six Mavericks with multi-point games. An early power play goal put WMU (13-12-1, 8-8-0-0 NCHC) in front, but Pope, on the power play, and ju- nior forward Fredrik Olofsson each scored later in the first frame to put Omaha (14-11-1, 7-9-0-0 NCHC) ahead for good. Pope made it 3-1 early in the second stanza while UNO struck again 21 ticks later to make it 4-1. After a Bronco goal made it 4-2, Vesel tallied his two goals, the first coming short-handed in the second period, and the other coming five minutes into the final frame, to put the game out of reach at 6-2. Despite the loss, WMU outshot Omaha, 37-35, but junior goalie Evan Weninger made 34 saves in the win. In a back-and-forth contest that saw both teams hold two-goal leads, Miami and Colorado College skated to a 4-4 overtime tie Saturday at the Broadmoor World Arena, with the Tigers earning the extra standings point by scoring in 3-on-3 overtime. The Tigers (11-11-4, 5-8-3-2/0 NCHC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from sophomore forward Nick Halloran in the first three minutes of the game. The RedHawks (9-12-3, 4-8-2-0 NCHC) roared back with three goals over the final 13 minutes of the first frame, including the final two on the power play to take the lead. Sophomore forward Carson Meyer made it 4-2 Miami midway through the second period with his second goal and third point of the game. The Tigers would not be outdone, however, as junior forwards Mason Bergh and Trevor Gooch scored to tie the game, with Gooch’s coming midway through the third period.
