  • October 2011
Volume 13. Issue 10 October 2011 Overton’s Free Newspaper - issued monthly Farewell to the Rector by June Owen There was a full church for David’s final service, held on Sunday 11th September. This was followed by a farewell lunch at the Village Hall hosted by the 3 churches of the joint benefice, bringing together the congregations of Erbistock, Penley and Overton. Everyone sat down to the delicious meal to mark the occasion. We have great respect and affection for David as a person and for his ministry amongst us. It was a privilege to welcome him and Sue as honoured guests. We were also joined by Rev’d David Child and by the Rural Dean of Llangollen, Rev’d Una Mclean the Methodist minister, plus members of the Churches Together Committee. Presentations were made to David and Sue by representatives of each of the three churches, speaking for us all in expressing their tributes and offering wholehearted appreciation and thanks for David's work, for the strength of his commitment and his warmth for people. In wishing him well for the next stage of his min- istry in Hawarden it became very clear to us that he will be greatly missed. The children of St Mary’s Sunday School were delighted when David asked to have his picture taken with them (see picture to right) I hope it will bring back many happy memories to him. He has always made his work with the children and the schools his priority and what he has achieved is a credit to him.
