New India Manthan-Sankalp Se Siddhi

Venkataramannagudem KVK, Venkataramannagudem has conducted “New India Manthan - Sankalp Se Siddhi” programme on 30.08.2017 which was presided over by Sri Ganni Veeranjaneyulu, Hon'ble MLA, Unguturu. In this programme, Sri Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture and Agri-Processing, Sri. P.Manikyala Rao, Hon'ble Minister for Endowments, Sri. Pithani Satyanarayana, Hon'ble Minister for Labour, Employment, Training and Factories, Sri Mullapudi Bapiraju, ZP Chairman, West Godavari District, Sri Managantti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), Hon'ble MP, Eluru, Sri Gokaraju Gangaraju, Hon'ble MP, Narsapuram, Smt. Thota Sitha Ramalakshmi, Hon'ble MP, Rajyasabha, Sri Angara Rammohan, MLC, and Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Hon’ble Board members, University officers, scien- tists, students, departmental officers and farmers of West Godavari and Visakhapatnam district have participated and took oath on New India Manthan: Sankalp Se Siddhi-for doubling farmer’s income by 2022. In this programme a bulletin entitled “Sankalpam tho Saakaram” was released by the Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture Sri Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy. An exhibition depicting the latest technologies and developments in Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and fisheries was arranged.

Pandirimamidi

New India Manthan – Sankalp Se Siddhi programme was organ- ised by KVK, Pandirimamidi on 21.08.2017. The programme started with inauguration of exhibition stalls by Smt.Kothapalli Geetha, Hon’ble MP, Araku, Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension gave a brief account of the programme followed by message of Hon’ble Prime Minister (Video). Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor, delivered the expert talk regarding the technol- ogy for doubling farmers income with the usage of quality planting material, water conservation technology, water storage structures, organic cultivation of crops etc. Smt.T.Ratnabai, MLC, Rampacho- davaram called upon the farmers for efficient use of available water and other related activities. Chief Guest Smt.Kothapalli Geetha, Hon’ble MP, Araku addressed the farmers regarding the importance of Agriculture and Horticulture and expressed her views on Sankalp Se Siddhi programme. In this programme Sri.A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, PO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram, Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr.B.V.K.Bhagawan, Zonal Research Head, Coastal Zone-I, Smt. P.Padmaja, Project Director, ATMA, Sri K.V.S.Prasad, AGM, NABARD, scientists, students, departmental officers and 768 farmers attended and have taken pledge for New India Movement.

Parvathipuram

Sri. P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Civil Aviation Minister participated and administered a pledge to the farmers in Sankalp Se Siddhi (attainment through resolve) programme conducted by KVK, Rasthaguntabai organized at College of Horticulture, Parvathipuram on 28.08.2017 with a motto of “Doubling the income of farmers by 2022.”

World Honey Bee Day

KVK, Venkataramannagudem has conducted “World Honey Bee Day” on 19.08.2017 under the chairmanship of Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor. An Exhibition of equipments used in Honey Bee Keeping was organized and posters related to importance of honey bee, honey, byproducts etc., were displayed on this occasion. In this programme all university officers, Dr. K. Umajyothi, Board Member, Dr.YSRHU, Dr. B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur, Dr. D. Venkataswamy, Principle Scientist & Head, Post Harvest Technology Center, Dr.P. Ramadevi, Senior Scientist & Head, HRS, V.R.Gudem, Scientists of KVK and farmers from Viziana- garam, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, East and West Godavari districts have participated. A technical bulletin entitled “Udyana pantalalo adhika digubadiki teneteegala pramukhyatha” was released by the Vice-Chancellor and distributed to the participants.

Vice-Chancellor Visit

On 21.08.2017, Sri.Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor and Dr.R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension, visited KVK, Pandirima- midi, on the occasion of Sankalp Se Siddhi programme. Interacted with KVK scientists with reagard to the on-going activities and vis- ited KVK instructional farm, cashew nursery, goat and poultry units - suggested to meet the demand for cashew grafts to improve the productivity in tribal areas.

Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research, visited Biotechnology lab and reviewed the progress of works at HRS, Lam on 24.08.2017. Education

Exposure Visits Students of II year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture, CoH, Anantharajupeta along with Dr.P.Syamsundar Reddy, Asst. Professor (Hort.) and Dr. B. Tanuja Priya, Asst. Professor (Hort.) and Mr. Y. Ravisankar Babu, Physical Director visited HRS, Chintapalli, HRS, VRGudem, HRS, Kovvuru, Cashew Research Station, Bapatla, ICAR-IIOPR, Pedavegi and different nurseries at Kadiyam as a part of AP Educational Tour from 16.08.2017 to 20.08.2017 and observed various crops.

RHWEP Programme Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associate Dean, CoH, Anantharajupeta, Dr. K.T. Venkataramana, Zonal Research Head, Dr. K. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), CRS, Tirupati and Dr. K. Lalitha, Asst. Professor (Agro), Associate Dean’s representative visited RHWEP village Adapareddypalli and interacted with farmers and students in the village on 23.08.2017. Research Notable Research Findings

Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur along with Sri. Ashok, Horticulture officer, surveyed Pulluru and Dasullapalem villages of Mylavaram mandal in on 16.08.2017 to diagnose the problems of Guava. Infestation of root- knot nematode (Meloidogyne sp.) was observed in the root bits of guava from Dasullapalem village of Mylavaram mandal and suggested the management practices for combating nematode problem in guava. D.Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem recorded fruiting in HY-06-08, a betelvine hybrid under evaluation, as a result of open pollination. Seeds obtained were sown and 20% germination was recorded. At present they are at three leaf stage.

Sri. Y. Chandra Sekhar, Research Associate, HRS, Anantharajupeta observed downy mildew in cucumber under greenhouse conditions. Cymaxalin (6%) + Mancozeb (60%) @ 3gms/l was sprayed to control the same.

Extension

Training Programmes

Sri.M.Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Venkataramannagudem delivered a lecture on “Protected cultivation and precision farming of high value vegetable crops” during a training programme to the MPEOs from , Krishna district on 21.08.2017 followed by an exposure visit to Centre of Excellence for Protected Cultivation at Venkataramannagudem.

Six days vocational training programme on Bee keeping was conducted by G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) at KVK, Venkataraman- nagudem from 16.08.2017 to 21.08.2017. On 20.08.17 trainees visited Apiary unit at Pedatadepalli on 21.08.2017 as a part of training programme. The trainees visited State Bee Keeping Extension Centre (SBEC), Vijayarai and interacted with Sri V.S.Rao, Executive i/c, SBEC, KVIC, Vijayarai who explained about the graft- ing of queen, pollen collection and drying of pollen for marketing.

On 19.08.2017, Sri G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta conducted an off campus training programme on “Pest and disease management in Paddy” at Mudireddypalli Thanda village, Mydukur mandal and addressed the farmers on cultivation practices to be followed in paddy i.e. IPM, IDM and INM practices.

Dr.C.VenkataRamana, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam attended a training programme as resource person on “Marketing professionals of ITC on Good Agriculture Practices in chilli” at CTRI, Rajamahendravaram on 19.08.2017.

Dr.L.Naram Naidu, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Lam attended a training programme to Departmental officers as resource person on “Improving Horticulture growth in ” at APHRDI, Bapatla on 22.08.2017.

Diagnostic Visits

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit in Kalvacharla village of Rajanagaram mandal on 17.08.2017 and observed the incidence of ganoderma disease in coconut gardens and suggested the control measures to the farmers.

On 24.08.2017, Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramanna- gudem visited ridge gourd field at Venkataramannagudem and observed fruit fly and sucking pest complex infestation and demonstrated installation fruit fly traps@5/acre and spraying of malathion 50 EC @ 2 ml/l at 10 days interval against fruit fly and installation of sticky traps @ 10 per acre and spaying of dimethoate @ 2ml/lit or imidacloprid @ 0.3 ml/lit against sucking pest complex.

Dr. R. Nagaraju Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head and Dr. Y. Sharat Kumar Reddy, Scientist-in charge, RHWEP, HRS, Anantharajupeta explained about "Cultivation of cucumber under greenhouse conditions" to the RHWEP students allotted to HRS, Anantharjupeta placed at Nagavarm village of Chitvel mandal of Kadapa district during their visit to HRS farm on 21.08.2017. Students were taught with V - Cordon system, ma- turity indices and they have harvested 130 kgs of cucumber as 1st harvest.

On 28.08.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta has visited banana (Var. Grand Naine) fields for diagnosis of pest and disease incidence at G.V Satram village of Mydukur mandal and observed sigatoka leaf spot infection on leaves. Recommended spraying of chlorothalonil @ 2 g/l or Propiconazole @ 1 ml/l. During the visit Sri. E. Eswar Prasad Reddy, Horticultural Officer, Mydukur and MPEO have also participated.

On 31.08.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta visited turmeric (Var. Mydukur local) fields for diagnosis of pest and disease incidence at Adireddypalli village of Mydukur mandal and observed leaf spot infection on leaves and recommended spraying of Mancozeb @ 2.5 g/l or thiophanate methyl @ 1 g/l 3 to 4 times at 15 days interval.

On 31.08.2017, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head and Sri P. Raja Sek- har, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited paddy fields (var. MTU-1153) in Bandapalli and Tamarapalli villages of Rampachodava- ram mandal and suggested first top dressing of nitrogen fertilizer (urea) at active tillering stage.

On 24.08.17, Sri Bhanumurthy K.C, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirima- midi visited turmeric field (var. JTS-6) at Koyyalagudem village of Devipatnam mandal under on farm trial and suggested the farmer to go for hand weeding and basal application of fertilizers i.e. urea @ 50 kg/acre and neem cake @ 200 kg/acre.

Dr. K. Ravindra kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur along with Sri. Mallikarjun, Horticultural officer, Kadiyapu lanka inspected horticulture nurseries at Kadiyapu lanka, Burri lanka, Veeravaram and Pottilanka for nursery certification on 22.08.2017.

Tribal Sub Plan

On 16.08.2017, Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem distributed 350 Vanaraja one month old chicks to the tribal farmers of Buttaiahgudem and Polavaram mandals under ICAR-TSP project on “Development of Integrated Fisheries cum Horticulture/Poultry for livelihood of Tribal Farmers”.

Fish feed was distributed by Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist, KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 18.08.2017 to the tribal farmers of West Rekulagunta, East Rekulagunta, Achiyapalem, Antharvedigudem, Badral- gudem, Pandugudem and Yarraiahgudem villages of Buttaiahgudem mandal under ICAR TSP project on “Development of integrated fish cul- ture cum horticulture/poultry for the livelihood of fisher folks”.

Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem has visited the fish farms under the ICAR-TSP project and released fish fingerlings in the farmers’ ponds at Pandugudem, Badralagudem, Yarraigudem, Tellamvarigudem, West Rekulagunta, Antharve- digudem, East Rekulagunta and Achiyyapalem villages of ButtaigudemMandal, West Godavari Dis- trict. On 24.08.17, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi provided Kovela Jiguru seedlings produced at KVK nursery to farmers of Koyyalagudem village of Devipatnam mandal through LAYA, NGO for boarder plantation around the cashew fields.

Front Line Demonstrations

On 24.08.2017, Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and Miss S. Adar- sha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi has visited Korra fields (var. Surya Nandi) at Pamugandi and D.N.Palem villages of Devipat- nam mandal and observed the crop which was at vegetative stage and suggested to go for weeding for better growth.

On 04.08.2017 and 21.08.2017 S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and P.Rajasekhar Scientist (SS&AC) , KVK, Pandirimamidi distributed blackgram (var. LBG 752) and greengram var.WGG 42 seed along with pre-emergence weedicide to the farmers of Devaram, Devipat- nam villages of Devipatnam Mandal, D.V.Kota, Dharwada of Maredumilli mandal and Tamarapalli of Rampachodavaram mandal respectively, covering 30 acres of blackgram and 10 acres of greengram. Seed treatment of blackgram, greengram with bio-fertilizer, rhizobium@300gms per acre was demonstrated to the farmers.

On 23.08.2017 Dr. A.Srinivas, Senoir Scientist & Head and Sri. S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited blackgram fields at Devipatnam mandal and observed leaf folder infestation and recommended for application of monocrotophos 1.6ml/ l water for its control.

Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension delivered a lecture on “Different media in nursery production” and Sri.M.Ravindra Babu, Sci- entist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem delivered a lecture on “Nursery production under polyhouses and shadenets” in the State level conference on “Nursery management, phytosanitary issues and opportunities for exports” organized by Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh on 16.08.2017 during the ‘Organic cum Nursery Expo’ from 15th -18th August, 2017 at . The conference was inaugurated by Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Commissioner of Horticulture in the presence of Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research and other dignitaries. Meetings

Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs attended the combined counselling for admissions into U.G. Courses in Agriculture, Horticulture and Veteri- nary Science held at Lam, Guntur on 23.08.2017.

Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs attended Janmabhumi smart portal for integrated delivery of services relating to education and scholarships meeting on 21.08.2017.

Dr. B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur, Dr. K. T. Venkataramana, Prin- cipal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, CRS, Tirupati and Smt. T.Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, An- antharajupeta attended the meeting on the action plan for the QRT of ICAR-AICRP on Fruits and also follow up action on the future needs meet of this project at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru on 30th & 31st August 2017.

Dr.S.Surya Kumari, Principal Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.K.Giridhar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam at- tended a meeting on “Development of Sustainable Agricultural Practices in Spices” at IISR, Kozhi- kode on 23.08.2017.

Dr.C.Venkata Ramana, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam attended technical committee meeting on “Protected cultivation” organized by Department of Horticulture at Commissionerate of Horticul- ture on 30.08.2017.

Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended Pharmalytical-2017 workshop at Hyderabad and acquainted with dif- ferent manufacturers related to plant biochemical analysis.

Visits

Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs visited Horticultural Polytech- nic Colleges, Kalikiri and Badvel on 18th & 19th August, 2017 respec- tively, convened a meeting by involving all the committee members at college level, interacted with senior students and staff regarding precautionary measures for prohibition of ragging and also in- structed the corrective measures, UGC regulations on curbing the menace of ragging, formation of Anti Ragging committee, Anti Ragging rules and regulations (Act.No.26-1997.) by showing live anti ragging videos. Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta on 26.08.2017, interacted with staff and suggested to prepare projects for National Agricultural Higher Education programme (NAHEP) followed by a visit to all the three RHWEP villages.

Twelve MPEO’S from Department of Agriculture, P. Gannavaram division visited Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta on 28.08.2017 and were briefed about the production and protection technologies of coconut, cocoa and plant protection aspects of field crops by the scientists.

Twenty farmers from Anakapalli visited Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta on 31.08.2017 and were briefed about the production and protection technologies of coconut, cocoa and plant protection aspects of field crops by the scientists.

On 17.08.2017, Project Director and Deputy Project Director, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Eluru visited KVK, Venkataramannagudem and Senior Scientist & Head, KVK explained about the activities taken up at KVK instructional farm.

On 19.08.2017, seventy farmers from Vizianagaram district have visited KVK, Venkataramannagudem with the assistance of Depart- ment of Horticulture, Vizianagaram. The farmers were explained about sheep, poultry, azolla and vermiculture units in KVK instruc- tional farm and were also taken visit to Center of Excellence and Post

Harvest Technology Center in the university campus.

Dr. P. Deepthi, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Ananthapuramu explained about the research activities to ARS Trainees who visited Horticultural Research Station, Ananthapuramu on 16.08.2017 .

Sri. B.N.N. Murthy, IFS and Smt. B. Jaya Lakshmi, IPS visited the laborato- ries and interacted with ELP students of different modules, CoH, V.R.Gudem on 30-08-2017. Later visited KVK, V.R.Gudem demonstration units.

On 20.08.2017, Input dealers of Chittoor district visited CRS, Tirupati under DAESI program organized by ATMA, Chittoor and were briefed about the production and protection aspects of citrus.

Dr. M.L.N. Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited HRS, Kovvur and interacted with the RAWEP students at Pasivedala and Kalavalapalli villages on 17.08.2017.

Guest Lecture Guest lectures were given by adjunct faculty, Dr. T.V. Neelakanta Sasthry, Retd. Professor (Economics) on 28.09.2017 and 29.08.2017. The topics covered were Economic survey in RHWEP villages, conduct- ing farm and house hold survey and market intelligence, farm budget- ing and preparation of projects and alternate farm plans. Calculation of depreciation for different farm implements & equipments, calculation of cost of production and evaluation of Profitable enterprise and share of different enterprise/crops in holding the profits by the farmer.

Parthenium Awareness week

Parthenium awareness week was conducted by Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist & Head and scientists at KVK, Pandirimamidi institutional farm. As a part of this programme Sr.Scientist & Head explained to RHWEP students regarding the importance of parthenium eradication followed by removal of parthenium on the farm.

On 23.08.2017 Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.) and Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted Parthenium eradica- tion awareness programme at Government school, Venkataramanna- gudem followed by up rooting of parthenium weed in school premises. ,

Radio Programmes Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Ananthapuramu attended phone-in -live programme on “Cultivation of horticultural crops” at All India Radio, Ananthapuramu on 17.08.17.

Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.) HRS, Venkataramannagudem delivered a radio talk on “Pandla Mokkala Antukattutalo Melakuvalu” at All India Radio, Vijayawada on 20.08.2017.

Dr. T. Suseela, Assistant Professor, CoH, Venkataramannagudem delivered a radio talk on “Thadi aarina puvvulu – Vaanijya Pramukhyatha” at All India Radio, Vijayawada on 23.08.2017.

Superannuation

Dr.M.B.Nageswara Rao, Director of Industrial & International Programmes, Dr.YSRHU retired from service on 31.08.2017 on attaining superannuation.

Obituary Sri. N.Srinivasa Rao, AEO, HRS, Ambajipeta expired on 21.08.2017 due to ill health. All the staff members of HRS, Ambajipeta paid their tributes.
