Claire is a member of National Honor Society, SHARE, DECA, and is Assistant Editor for the Yearbook. Claire also dances competitively for Jody Phillips Dance Company. Her favorite drill team memory is going to Nationals for the first time. Future plans are to attend a four-year university, yet to be determined. Claire would like to thank her family for supporting her love of dance, all the teachers at Jody Phillips, and Coach Bubba for always encouraging her to do her best. Camryn COHEN This is Camryn’s fourth year as a Lancer Dancer and her second year on Varsity, serving as the team’s Spirit Officer. Camryn is also a SHARE committee chair, Link Leader, DECA member and Varsity member of the Track Team since her freshman year. She has danced competitively with Starstruck Performing Arts Center and Perception Studios. Camryn’s favorite drill team memory is the halftime performance at the 2020 basketball game against Rockhurst. After graduation she plans to pursue a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Therapy, however, she is undecided on a college choice. In Camryn’s words: “I would like to give special thanks to my mom and dad for supporting me throughout my years of performing and competing in dance and gymnastics. Floriano Amimo1,2* , Ben Lambert3 and Anthony Magit4 Abstract Despite its current relatively low global share of cases and deaths in Africa compared to other regions, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has the potential to trigger other larger crises in the region. This is due to the vulnerability of health and economic systems, coupled with the high burden of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis (TB), and malaria. Here we examine the potential implications of COVID-19 on the control of these major epidemic diseases in Africa. We use current evidence on disease burden of HIV, TB, and malaria, and epidemic dynamics of COVID-19 in Africa, retrieved from the literature. Our analysis shows that the current measures to control COVID-19 neglect important and complex context-specific epidemiological, social, and economic realities in Africa. There is a similarity of clinical features of TB and malaria, with those used to track COVID-19 cases. This coupled with institutional mistrust and misinformation might result in many patients with clinical features similar to those of COVID-19 being hesitant to voluntarily seek care in a formal health facility. Furthermore, most people in productive age in Africa work in the informal sector, and most of those in the formal sector are underemployed. With the current measures to control COVID-19, these populations might face unprecedented difficulties to access essential services, mainly due to reduced ability of patients to support direct and indirect medical costs, and unavailability of transportation means to reach health facilities. -

How Did the Romans Really Crucify Jesus? Richard Binder, September 27, 2020 (edited March 14, 2021) This article is the conclusion of a secular exploration of an event that some people devoutly believe happened, while others deny the very existence of its central character. That event, or non-event, was the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. You can find the complete series of articles at this Web address: http://www.richardspens.com/?crux= For nearly two millennia, the method by which Jesus of Nazareth was crucified has been a subject of speculation by Christians, archaeologists, historians, and others whose interest might be based on little or nothing more than curiosity. There exist countless religious paintings, sculptures, and corpora on crucifixes, and there exist also many ancient writings describing crucifixion as practiced by the Romans. This article is an attempt to pull together several applicable threads of information with the purpose of describing without religious bias just how Jesus’ crucifixion was carried out. One thing we can be sure of is that Jesus’ death on the cross did not appear as it is portrayed in depictions intended for veneration by the faithful, typified by the three images shown here—for it was horrifyingly unsuited to that purpose. In this article, I shall refer to works of this type as “traditional” depictions. My approach evaluates comparatively the seven royal mortuary contexts from the city of Copán, Honduras during the Classic period from the early 5th century to early 9th century CE, in order to draw out the ideas that infused the ritual behavior. It is concerned with analyzing the tomb as a ritual context that is a materialization of a community's ideas about death and the afterlife. The heart is the data gathered from my participation in the excavation of the Classic period royal tomb called the Oropéndola Tomb. -

Page 1 of 26 The psychology behind morbid reality: an interpretative phenomenological analysis of the fascination with blood, gore, injury, and death on the internet Rebecca Fox Supervised by: Jane Adlard May 2013 Page 2 of 25 The psychology behind morbid reality: an interpretative phenomenological analysis of the fascination with blood, gore, injury, and death on the internet ABSTRACT The psychological effects of viewing fictional, morbid and often, violent material are long researched and often in a negative light; yet despite the abundance and growing popularity of factual morbid material, predominately on the internet may be having on their psyche. Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was crucial to gain best insight into participants’ experience with blood, gore, injury, and death; and ultimately, the research question; “why do people view (Anderson, 2012), few studies have explored the effects of watching someone become injured or die. Using five male and three female adult participants from around the world, this study looked to address the motivations behind viewing factual morbid material on the internet and the effects it reality material involving injury and/or death?” Themes identified participants’ keen interests in the material, along with reporting both positive and negative psychological consequences. In comparison with previous literature based on both factual and fictional morbid material (e.g. Zuckerman & Litle, 1986), albeit largely based on short-term exposure, results were mixed and further research with these participants or from other similar internet domains would be necessary to further explore the effects of viewing factual morbid material. This is an entirely original study and themes identified and conclusions drawn should be taken with caution, acting merely as an introduction to the psychology behind the fascination in viewing morbid material.
