Prolific Thriller Author JON LAND Gets Real About Mentorship, Storytelling onsidered a trailblazer in the thriller genre, Jon Land has a diverse publication list. Although this prolific author has written more than 40 books, both fiction and nonfiction, his skill with storytelling and the written word goes hand-in- hand with his involvement in the writer community. Recog- nizingC the importance of creating characters not traditionally seen in the thriller genre, one of his popular fictionalized characters is fifth- generation female Texas Ranger Caitlin Strong; two others are a Pal- estinian detective and an Israeli chief police inspector. Land has also taken over writing the popular Murder, She Wrote mystery series, fea- turing female amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher. As an emeritus board member and current marketing chair of the THE BIG International Thriller Writers (ITW) organization, Land deeply embraces the mission of the group – helping debut and mid-list thriller writers advance their careers. In a recent interview, Land was all too gracious to let us pick his brain about craft, diversity in pub- lishing, and paying it forward in the writing community. The early Doubleday books all say "First Edition" explicitly on the copyright page (CP). There are other identifiers for these books as well. For books that contain strings of numbers to denote the printing, the important consideration is the presence of the numeral 1 in that string, regardless of the format of the numbers. Some possible variations of the printing numbers are: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 All three of these denote a first edition. The numeral 1 will be removed for a second printing. Black House is the exception. First edition copies state "First Edition" on the copyright page and the number sequence will be "2 4 6 8 9 7 5 3". Trim size is given because Book Club editions are often smaller than trade editions. Also, Book Club edition dust jackets (DJ) are occasionally found on first editions to replace lost or damaged jackets. Book Club edition dust jackets are easily identified because they do not have a price marked inside the front cover. Later printing trade edition dust jackets will often have a different price from what is found in the table.

On the stage set up for his readers, King unveils a journey of traumas but he also lifts up the curtain on the ways to cope with the consequences of these traumas. Both narratives follow the flawed hero, Danny Torrance, reveal the shattering experiences lived by the latter as a five-year-old child in The Shining and the ensuing post traumatic disorders in Doctor Sleep. The texts not only offer a coalescence of traumas, representing a journey of repression and haunting but they equally open the way on the possibility of healing.
