Partial-Record Stations and Miscellaneous Sites 260 DISCHARGE AT PARTIAL-RECORD STATIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS SITES As the number of streams on which streamflow information is likely to be desired far exceeds the number of stream- gaging stations feasible to operate at one time, the Geological Survey collects limited streamflow data at sites other than stream-gaging stations. When limited streamflow data are collected on a systematic basis over a period of years for use in hydrologic analyses, the site at which the data are collected is called a partial-record station. Data collected at these partial-record stations are usable in low-flow or floodflow analyses, depending on the type of data collected. In addition, discharge measurements are made at other sites not included in the partial-record program. These measurements are generally made in times of drought or flood to give better areal coverage to those events. Those measurements and others collected for some special reason are called measurements at miscellaneous sites. Measurements at partial-record stations No measurements were made at partial-record stations during the 2002 water year. Those that are measurements of base flow are designated by an asterisk (*). Jean Pillo, Watershed Conservation Project Manager Eastern Connecticut Conservation District And TRBP Coordinator Special Presentation If you missed the July 2018 meeting of the Thames River Basin Partnership, then you missed a presentation by Chuck Toal, Avalonia Land Conservancy’s development and programs director. Chuck gave a presentation on the 50 years of accomplishments of ALC as a regional land trust. ALC is focused on 22 towns in southeastern Connecticut. ALC, which oversees 4000 acres of preserved land, achieved accreditation in 2017. Their success has resulted from a working board of directors and the establishment of town committees to focus on smaller areas. Their current focus is to be more selective on land acquisition, particularly concentrating on building blocks of open space while also building an endowment fund land stewardship going forward.

    Ashaway River Watershed Description This TMDL applies to the Ashaway River assessment unit Assessment Unit Facts (RI0008039R-02A), a 1.8-mile long stream located in (RI0008039R-02A) Hopkinton, RI (Figure 1). The Town of Hopkinton is Town: Hopkinton located in the southwestern corner of the state and is Impaired Segment bordered by Connecticut to the east and Westerly, RI, to Length: 1.8 miles the south. The Ashaway River is located in the Classification: Class A southwestern section of town along the Connecticut border. Direct Watershed: 28.2 mi2 (18060 acres) The Ashaway River watershed is presented in Figure 2 Imperious Cover: < 1% with land use types indicated. Watershed Planning Area: Wood – Pawcatuck The Ashaway River begins at the confluence of Parmenter (#23) Brook and the Green Fall River in the southwestern section of Hopkinton, near Route 216. The brook flows south parallel to Laurel Street through a residential area before it empties into the Pawcatuck River along the Connecticut border. The Ashaway River watershed covers 28.2 square miles in both Rhode Island and Connecticut, with the majority of the watershed located in Connecticut. Non-developed areas occupy a large portion (84%) of the watershed. Developed uses (including residential and commercial uses) occupy approximately 5%. Agricultural land uses occupy 7% and wetlands and other surface waters occupy 4%. Water/ The Town of Hopkinton is 44 square miles and has a Wetlands (4%) Agriculture population of approximately 8,000 people. Hopkinton has Non- (7%) Developed over 1,000 acres of open space supporting various (84%) Developed recreational activities, including hiking, fishing, and (5%) canoeing.
