By CARL MCKINNEY COURTESY [email protected] Lake City mayor and local attorney Stephen Witt told a sub- stance abuse evaluator that he’d driven under the influence of alcohol on dozens of occasions, but denied having a drinking problem and claimed he had too many professional obligations to attend treatment, court records show. The state’s high court told him to seek treatment anyway. Gleason Place The Florida Supreme Court in May ordered Witt to sign a treatment contract after the Florida Bar filed a complaint over a drunk-driv- ing incident last year. Witt, whom the court placed on probation for the length of the contract, said he will fully comply. “I will do whatever they want me to do,” Witt sold for $18M Witt said Friday. Last August, the Bar filed a complaint against Witt just days before he struck a plea deal for driving under the influence in January 2017. CCSD The Bar accused Witt of violating multiple rules for minor and criminal misconduct for the incident. Bar officials referred Witt to Florida Lawyers Assistance for a substance abuse evalu- School ation, which took place in May 2017, court records show.
