Jones COMPETITORS’ INSTRUCTIONS Vintage Sports-Car Club The John Harris (Derbyshire) Trial Saturday 7 March 2020 Held under the General Regulations of Motorsport UK incorporating the provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA) and the Supplementary Regulations COMPETITORS’ INSTRUCTIONS PRINT OUT AND BRING WITH YOU ON THE EVENT Many thanks for entering the 2020 John Harris (Derbyshire) Trial, you will find enclosed all of the information you require to compete on this event. 1. TIMETABLE 0800hrs Signing-on and Scrutineering Opens 0930hrs Signing-on and Scrutineering Closes 0900hrs Hills Open 1230hrs – 1330hrs Marshals’ Lunch Break - some hills may remain open at the Hill Chiefs’ discretion 1500hrs – 1700hrs Return Score Cards to The Old Poets Corner Pub 1 Butts Rd, Ashover, Chesterfield S45 0EW– a short walk across the field from the trailer park 1630hrs Hills Close Competitors are requested to not inspect the Hills before the day of the event, they are on private land and we do not have permission for you to access them other than on the day of the event. PLEASE BRING THIS MAP WITH YOU Start at Ashover Parish Hall, Milken Lane, Ashover, Chesterfield, S45 0BA (MR 119/352632) Please note that there is no overnight parking allowed in the parish hall car park, any overnight parking welcome in the trailer field which is as previously the next entrance up from the village hall car park. Tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches are available at the start. Finish at The Old Poets Corner Pub, 1 Butts Rd, Ashover, Chesterfield S45 0EW Unfortunately, we do not have use of the main hall this year due to a music festival so the finish will be at The Old Poets pub at the bottom of the village. There is a footpath diagonally across the field behind the trailer park or you can walk down the road. Jane’s tea and cakes will be available as normal with proceeds to charity as well as normal pub meals. 3. AMENDMENTS AND ADDITIONS TO SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS GR 4i J5.21.4 Cameras that are secured to the car and checked at scrutineering are permitted. GR 5 In the case of a tie it will be resolved by furthest cleanest, i.e. the highest number of 25’s scored, then 24’s, then 23’s etc. SR 12 Secretary of the Meeting – Richard Winchester Chief Scrutineer – Stuart Baxter 4. NON STARTERS Any competitor unable to start should ring the Club Office on 01608 644777 ext. 4 up to 1700hrs on Thursday 5th March, thereafter the Secretary of the Meeting, Richard Winchester on 07756 347747. 5. ARRIVAL AND REGISTRATION On arrival at Ashover Parish Hall please park as directed by the marshals. Trailers and passengers’ cars must be parked in the field which will be signposted. Go directly to scrutineering which will take place on a first-come-first-served basis, starting from 0800hrs until 0930hrs. This is located in the same field as for trailer parking, next to the parish hall car park. Your car number is shown in the attached List of Competitors. After passing Scrutineering please take your signed card to signing-on inside the parish hall, together with ALL of your passengers where they will be required to sign-on. IMPORTANT – ALL COMPETITORS, INCLUDING PASSENGERS MUST HAVE A MOTORSPORT UK LICENCE All competitors, Drivers, Navigators and Passengers must have one of the new Motorsport UK RS Clubman Competition Licenses (unless you have a Race or Speed licence for 2020) these are free, mandatory and issued by our governing body. You can apply online at https://rsclubman.motorsportuk.org/ and we recommend you and your passengers/navigators do so immediately. If you wish to apply using a paper form you can download the form and return by post to Motorsport UK here https://www.motorsportuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/03_CLUBMAN_FORM.pdf . Navigators under the age of 18 in the rear seats do not require licences. IMPORTANT – DOCUMENTS TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE EVENT (1) Please complete the form attached to these instructions detailing the information of all of your passengers and hand this in at signing-on. (2) For passengers under the age of 18 you will need to complete a consent form which is attached at the end of this document allowing them to take part in the event, hand this in at signing-on. 6. SCRUTINEERING Please present your car for scrutineering in a clean and tidy state. The Scrutineer will check general safety, and particularly the following items: a. Roadworthiness. Competitor confirms the car is presented in a road legal condition b. Same Cars as on Entry form c. Free from fluid leaks d. Front and rear lights working e. Fire Extinguishers – must be firmly mounted within the car, but easily accessible by the driver; minimum standard AFFF 1.75 litres. Extinguishers should be either less than 2 years old or have been serviced within the past 2 years. f. MOTORSPORT UK Compliant Spill Kit – every car must carry and Motorsport UK compliant spill kit in accordance with Clause 15. g. Top Dead Centre Marked on Steering Wheel h. Tow Rope – competitors not carrying a pre-attached tow rope must indicate their preferred point of attachment by marking it with red or yellow tape. i. Throttle Return Spring – must be attached to the throttle spindle of each carburettor. j. Battery Securely mounted (& sealed if within the passenger compartment) k. Wheels securely fitted and no loose spokes l. Tyres compliant with event Regulations. Adhesives may be used to secure tyres to wheel rims. All other run flat systems and methods of securing tyres to wheel rim are prohibited. m. Onboard Cameras. Are permitted but not mandated by the organiser, they may be mounted in any location on the vehicle which is considered safe by the Chief Scrutineer (Competitors are asked to think about the footage before it is up loaded to any social media) n. Child Seats – must be fitted for all children under the age of 12 or under the height of 1.35m in accordance with Clause 16. Please bring the VSCC laminated passport (Buff Form) for the car entered as it may be inspected by a VSCC eligibility scrutineer. 7. RUNNING OF THE EVENT Timing – all hills will be open between 0900hrs and 1630hrs. Most hills will close for lunch between 1230hrs and 1330hrs but Calton Lees and Stone Edge Squiggle will stay open 8. ORDER OF HILLS – THIS YEAR YOU ARE ALLOCATED A START HILL AND A FINISH GROUP All cars must commence the event with their designated start hill, indicated on the attached List of Competitors. Failure to do so will incur a penalty of 25 points. Please ensure that the start marshal at your designated start hill signs the score card in the appropriate place. After attempting your designated start hill you must complete all other hills within that group before moving on. After completing that first group, you can attempt each group of hills in any order, with the exception of your finish group (see below) but you must attempt all hills within a group before moving on. Marshals will check to ensure that this rule is complied with. Failure to do will result in a 25-point penalty. FINISH GROUP – All cars must finish the event with their designated finish group, indicated on the attached List of Competitors. Failure to do so will incur a penalty of 25 points. Please ensure that the start marshal at your first hill in your designated finish group signs the score card in the appropriate place. As above, you can attempt the hills within that finish group in any order. In these instructions there are 15 Hills but not all 15 may be used. Please check the official notice board at signing-on before you set off. Walking the Hill – will be allowed on all hills, with the exception of Beeley Plantation and Rake Wood 2. Marshals have been given authority to remove dangerous rocks etc. which may become exposed during the course of the event. Stop/Restarts – if a stop and restart is incorporated within a section, competitors will be briefed by the marshal at the start of the section as to its location, and the procedure to follow. Drive up the section to stop astride the stop line but with the front wheel hubs behind the second line where present; then, at the signal from the marshal, restart and continue to the end of the section. If the Stop/Restart is the box type your front wheels must not roll back over the first line. Crew – the entrant must drive throughout the competitive part of the trial and the front passenger seat must be occupied at all times by a passenger aged not less than 12. No passenger under the age of 12 may be carried in an open car. Children in the rear seats of saloons must be 2 years or older. All children under the age of 12 years or under 135cm in height must be seated in an approved child restraint (Motorsport UK Blue Book T4.1.6). The number of passengers may not be varied from section to section nor may any ballast. No dogs may be carried on the observed sections. Foot Paths / Rights of Way – your routes at Clough Wood, Beeley Plantation and Dudwood run across or along a Public Footpath or Right of Way.
