7. RUNNING OF THE EVENT Timing – all hills will be open between 0900hrs and 1630hrs. Most hills will close for lunch between 1230hrs and 1330hrs but Calton Lees and Stone Edge Squiggle will stay open

8. ORDER OF HILLS – THIS YEAR YOU ARE ALLOCATED A START HILL AND A FINISH GROUP All cars must commence the event with their designated start hill, indicated on the attached List of Competitors. Failure to do so will incur a penalty of 25 points. Please ensure that the start marshal at your designated start hill signs the score card in the appropriate place. After attempting your designated start hill you must complete all other hills within that group before moving on. After completing that first group, you can attempt each group of hills in any order, with the exception of your finish group (see below) but you must attempt all hills within a group before moving on. Marshals will check to ensure that this rule is complied with. Failure to do will result in a 25-point penalty. FINISH GROUP – All cars must finish the event with their designated finish group, indicated on the attached List of Competitors. Failure to do so will incur a penalty of 25 points. Please ensure that the start marshal at your first hill in your designated finish group signs the score card in the appropriate place. As above, you can attempt the hills within that finish group in any order.

In these instructions there are 15 Hills but not all 15 may be used. Please check the official notice board at signing-on before you set off.

Walking the Hill – will be allowed on all hills, with the exception of Beeley Plantation and Rake Wood 2. Marshals have been given authority to remove dangerous rocks etc. which may become exposed during the course of the event.

Stop/Restarts – if a stop and restart is incorporated within a section, competitors will be briefed by the marshal at the start of the section as to its location, and the procedure to follow. Drive up the section to stop astride the stop line but with the front wheel hubs behind the second line where present; then, at the signal from the marshal, restart and continue to the end of the section. If the Stop/Restart is the box type your front wheels must not roll back over the first line.

Crew – the entrant must drive throughout the competitive part of the trial and the front passenger seat must be occupied at all times by a passenger aged not less than 12. No passenger under the age of 12 may be carried in an open car. Children in the rear seats of saloons must be 2 years or older. All children under the age of 12 years or under 135cm in height must be seated in an approved child restraint (Motorsport UK Blue Book T4.1.6). The number of passengers may not be varied from section to section nor may any ballast. No dogs may be carried on the observed sections.

Foot Paths / Rights of Way – your routes at Clough Wood, Beeley Plantation and Dudwood run across or along a Public Footpath or Right of Way. All competitors are requested to exercise caution and reduce their speed accordingly near other users. Be especially careful near horses; slow down, stop and switch off your engine if necessary. Landowners – some sections are provided by kind permission of Chatsworth Estate and Stanton Estate and their tenants, and others are on private land. Please treat these arrangements with the utmost respect as we are dependent on the goodwill of these land owners for future trials. Most land owners will be spectating and in one case bouncing on the trial.

Beeley Village – there will be a blanket 10 mph speed limit for all competitors and marshals through this village (other than on the adjacent main road). There will be marshals in place to observe and anyone who ignores this speed limit will be excluded from the results.

Calton Lees – there will be a strict 10mph speed limit for all competitors and marshals through this hamlet. Also please DO NOT DRIVE ON THE GRASS VERGES. Risk Assessment has identified the steep access road into the Lindop sections as an area for caution and please observe a max speed of 15mph in this area.

9. MARKING The method of recording scores will be as follows: Wherever you stop on the hill, the marshal nearest to that point will mark the card with the score and initial it. Competitors will be credited with the appropriate points indicated on the marker beyond which the centre of the front wheels stop. A car will be deemed to have stopped when the un-driven wheels cease to revolve, or when it fails to leave a start or a restart, or when it touches a marker of any kind. To avoid any misunderstanding Motorsport UK Rule T6.4 is quoted in full: 6.4 A competitor will also be considered to have failed to negotiate an observed section non-stop if: 6.4.1 Any part of their vehicle or its occupants touch a marker. 6.4.2 All four wheels are positioned outside of the boundary of the course at the same time. The boundary is represented by a straight line drawn from course marker to course marker along the direction of the course. 6.4.3 The point of failure will be considered to be that at which any marker is first struck, or the point at which the boundary of the course is first crossed by all wheels of the competing vehicle. 6.4.4 Should this point of failure coincide with the division between two sub-sections, the marks lost will be those appropriate to failure in whichever of the two sub-sections provides the greater penalty. The front passenger seat must be occupied while attempting each section. No perching up on the seat back is allowed and may result in a zero score for the hill if this is observed by an official.

10. SCORE CARDS Failure to obtain a marshal’s signature to confirm attempt of your designated first hill and finish group entails a loss of 25 points. The hills must be attempted in the manner indicated under Running of the Event above (25 penalty points will be applied for non-compliance). It is the competitor’s responsibility to have the correct score entered on the scorecard and signed by the start or finish marshal, or the marshal nearest to his/her point of failure/success. Score cards must be handed in at The Old Poets from 1500hrs and no later than 1700hrs after attempting all the hills or retiring. Unfortunately, we cannot credit any competitor in the results if their score card is not handed in by this time.

11. BREAKDOWN ASSISTANCE Should you have a total mechanical failure and you are unable to limp back to Ashover, home or your trailer, please contact the following number for assistance: Barry Smith – 07809 708857. All hills will be attended by RAYNET, providing safety and information cover via their radio network, the Hill Chief can therefore pass on any messages quickly. We do not have a recovery service this year but should be able to arrange transport back to your tow car/trailer.

If you have to retire from the event, please ensure you notify the Clerk of the Course or the Secretary of the Meeting using the numbers detailed below.

12. FINISH / RESULTS Every effort will be made to announce provisional results as soon as possible after the 17.00hrs deadline for handing in of score cards, so we ask competitors to head back to Old Poets pub promptly after completing their final hill. Please leave your car in the trailer field and walk down through the signed footpath. We really do hope that you will support the social gathering at the finish, and to relax and enjoy the atmosphere before the results are announced. Tea, coffee, cakes and a bar are available at the finish, all profits from refreshments sold by Jane during the day will be donated to Charity.
