The objectives of the Trust are educational, and grants are given primarily to those wishing to study at a school, college, or other educational establishment. Applications are particularly welcomed from residents of the Piddle Valley and its immediate neighbourhood. Normally applicants should be nearing the end of their school careers or have left school, though younger children with special educational needs may be considered. At the Trustees’ discretion, expeditions or travel groups for young people which are organised for scientific or cultural purposes may be eligible, provided they contain an educational element. The Trustees give priority to cases involving hardship or difficult family circumstances and where, without some assistance, the desired education, course or activity would not be possible. Special consideration is given to older people who may wish to start training for a particular career or other purpose after normal education has been interrupted. During the past year grants made by the Trust have included those to help university students with accommodation costs and equipment; to provide support for children with specific learning difficulties; and to provide training for adults hoping to change career. Meetings of Trustees to consider applications are held in May, September and January. Those wishing to apply should obtain an application form by writing to The Administrator c/o Piddle Valley First School, Piddletrenthide, DT2 7QL or by emailing [email protected]. Applications by post or email should be received not later than the 15th of the month before the meeting at which they are to be considered. Further details of the Trust can be found at www.bridgeeducationaltrust.org.uk but if you feel that you would like to discuss a possible application with one of the local Trustees, please contact one of the following: Rex Goddard (348363), Sue Nicholas (348436), Hannah Murphy (348564), Richard Drewe (348253), Nick Harland (348272) Richard Drewe, Chairman 22 www.piddlevalley.info 6 www.piddlevalley.info Dates for your diary ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ November 1 Sun Piddlehinton Village Hall Breakfast, 9-11.30am 1 Sun Tea Party with Talent, Buckland Newton Village Hall, 2.30-4.30pm 7 Sat Bonfire Night, Piddle Valley First School, 6pm 9 Mon Mobile Library 13 Fri PIDDLEHINTON DONATION: open village meeting, Piddlehinton Village Hall 7.00pm 13 Fri Coffee Morning, Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall, 10.30am–12 noon 13 Fri POPP Information Event, Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall, 10.30am– 12.30pm 16 Mon Hedgehogs and their Future, Colliton Club Dorchester, 7.30pm 16 Mon Mobile Library 20 Fri Barn Dance Club, Chris Toyne, Piddle Valley First School, 7.15– 9.30pm 21 Sat Strictly Balti, Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall, 7.30pm 24 Tues Parish Council Meeting, Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall, 7.30pm 27 Fri Damien Lewis, The Nazi Hunters, Piddlehinton Village Hall 7.30pm 28 Sat “Sing Along With Brian” at Piddlehinton Village Hall, 7pm December 4 Fri Christmas Food and Craft Fayre, Piddle Valley First School, 6–8pm 5 Sat Piddlehinton Millenium Green Christmas Fayre, Piddlehinton Village Hall, 10am–12 noon 7 Mon Mobile Library 11 Fri Lunch Club,12.30pm Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall 18 Fri Coffee Morning, Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall, 10.30am–12 noon 21 Mon Mobile Library Future Dates Twinning Club: Twelfth Night Party on 8th January, annual quiz and supper on January 29th in the Memorial Hall, Jumble Sale in Piddlehinton Hall on February 6th. • Piddle Valley Neighbourhood Plan 2018 to 2033
Piddle Valley Neighbourhood Plan 2018 to 2033 As modified by the Independent Examiner November 2016 Post Examination Draft–January 2018 Produced by Piddle Valley Parish Council with the help of local residents Piddle Valley Neighbourhood Plan – 2018 to 2033 How this Plan came about Back in 2012, the idea of a Neighbourhood Plan for the Piddle Valley was discussed at the Parish Council meetings. A small working group was formed. Having done some research and looked at other examples, the group wanted to be sure that there was enough support for a Neighbourhood Plan, as it was clear that producing a plan would take a lot of community time and effort. So the group put articles in the Piddle Valley News and Views to try to explain what a Neighbourhood Plan was, and what it could achieve, and organised presentations at the school in October that year. They gave local residents the chance to vote whether or not they wanted a Neighbourhood Plan. They explained that - If nothing is done, then future planning decisions that affect the Valley will be taken by the District Council as they see fit. If the Valley has its own Neighbourhood Plan, which sets out our wishes for things we both do and do not wish to see occur, then the District Council have to take those views into account in reaching their decision. The Plan will take a lot of time and work to prepare, including further consultations, and must eventually be approved by a referendum of the Valley residents. It is important therefore for the Parish Council to know that there is support in principle for the work involved.

The slopes and crests are mostly comprised of shallow well-drained calcareous silty soils over chalk, whilst the valley bottoms are made up of deep calcareous and non-calcareous fine silty soils. Due to its geology and topography, the Piddle Valley is prone to high water tables during prolonged wet periods.

Details of the official opening and related activities will be published on the museum’s website. It is all change on the Friends committee. I have been elected as Acting Chairman following the resignation of Margaret Rose after many years of dedicated service. My main task is to work with the committee with the aim of getting us into a position which will be sustainable for the next five years or so. We have made a great start following the recruitment of Angela Main and Valerie Hayward; the influx of new energy and ideas is already apparent. To complete our transformation we need three more committee members, hopefully including a potential chairman. We are a very affable bunch of people who enjoy working together to support our museum. Please contact me if you are interested in joining us. Angela will take over from me as Treasurer and Val has plunged in, all guns blazing, as Newsletter Editor, Secretary and Publicity Coordinator. Other positions and duties remain unchanged; namely: Sylvia Oliver continues as Membership Secretary; Alison Mitchell as Database Manager and general computer guru; Richard Wells as digital presentations expert and eBay sales specialist; finally but by no means least, Joe Tesoriere, our all-seasons Eminence Grise and all-purpose helper.
