Four Sports of Morgan’s Eureka Logger teammates earned all-county honors. They were Zack Smith, Cory Fleck, Youth Mike Brandi and Ryan Thomas. About Us Fortuna and McKinleyville placed three players each on the all-county team. Fortuna’s selections were Ask Us... Max Lodes, Tyson Fisher and Corbett Bollan. For McKinleyville it was Brandon Hux, Hop Sullivan and Chris Hudson. Dane Grytness from Arcata and Josh Fitch from Del Norte rounded out the all-county selections. Morgan was the league’s most-feared pitcher. He possessed a devastating fastball, complemented by an array of breaking pitches and the ability to throw from several different arm angles. Operating from the batter’s box he hit a lofty .439 with 23 RBI and one home run. BIG 5 ALL-COUNTY EUREKA Smith split duty between catching and designated hitter. He was the epitome of a clutch hitter, getting timely hit after timely hit, batting 424 for the season. Fleck as a centerfielder provided defense and speed — two desirable commodities. He hit .349. Brandi wielded a big bat and provided outstanding defense at second base. He also won key games as a pitcher. He hit .468 with two home runs. Thomas, primarily a pitcher, started eight games for the Loggers and amassed a 4-2 record with a league leading 1.67 ERA. He started the first game of three pivotal league double-headers and won all three. FORTUNA Fisher unleashed an awesome hitting performance on his opposition. He hit .500 for the year with three home runs and 27 RBIs — all league bests. Max Lodes hit .338 with three home runs and was a defensive specialist behind the dish. Corbett Bollan hit .364, drove in 27 runs and hit two home runs and led the league as a pitcher with 55 strike outs. MCKINLEYVILLE Hux, a slick fielding shortstop, hit .410 with two home runs and 19 RBIs. Once on base he was a thorn in the side of every pitcher. Sullivan did double duty as a pitcher and third baseman. He had an 2.02 ERA while batting .394 with 15 RBIs. Hudson proved to be a super centerfield for the Panthers. His batting average was .358 with 14 RBIs. ARCATA Grytness cemented left field for the Big Cats. He came on strong the last half of the season by batting .500 in league play. DEL NORTE Fitch had outstanding power numbers for the Warriors. He hit 7 home runs and played a stellar third base BIG 5 HONORABLE MENTION EUREKA — Kevin Ayers, Nate Hawk, Jeff Slack and Brad Morgan. FORTUNA – Cory Barrows, Steve Shamblin, Derek Ruud, Steve Head and Jeff Walling.
